Chills where other books cannot reach
The Woman in Black is quite simply the best ghost story written so far. Short and lacking in the gore that is integral to average ghost stories. This is an impecable tale of a malevolent spirit who will not stop in her revenge on the society that wronged her. The story chills in a manner far more piercing than the cold marsh mists integral to the plot.

An old-fashioned ghost story that delivers.
This is old-fashioned ghost story telling at its best; short, simple and superbly told. Best of all it delivers the goods, a shiver, a jump and a fright that lingers. Those looking for cheap thrills or gore will find this one way too tame, for the rest of you this little novel does not disappoint.

Creepalicious!
Truly one of the creepiest, spine tingling novels I've read. Beware: this is not a Kingsian book of gore. This story of a malevolent force is subtle and convincing. I was actually shocked that it disturbed me for such a "simple" story. I highly recommend Hill's book for a quick creepy read.

Active and Passive Analog Filter Design: An Introduction (McGraw-Hill Series in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Computer engineeRing)
Published in Hardcover by McGraw Hill College Div (1993)
Author: Lawrence P. Huelsman
Amazon base price: $78.75

One of the best
This is an excellent reference text to quite a tough section on network synthesis. Many authors will confuse you while presenting material on active filter design. However, Huelsman assumes very little and so the text is written in a logical manner that not only appeals but also reveals what other books hide from view.

Revolutionary thinking
Black Berry, Sweet Juice is "on being black and white in Canada"

I went into this book thinking it would be the same old race diatribes that I've been prone to my entire life. There should be equality between races, there is one race: human, etc. These are all things I believe, but are also fairly obvious, so everytime I read anything about race, I get frustrated by the same things being reitterated.

Lawrence Hill made me think of things that I hav never thought about before. He's well research, incredibly unbiased, recognizes that race IS an issue and that in order to abolish racism Canada must recognize that!

Insightful, well written, and well researched. A must for anyone, and a most definate must for any mixed race men and women.

NOT Based on an actual episode!
This is a great book to read if you want something fresh and new from the show. It takes place during the high school years and is NOT based on an actual 90210 episode (much like "Fantasies"). It's a GREAT read if you are a Dylan/Brenda fan like me! The book is hard to find, but I have seen it on eBay many times. Well worth the search!

I consider this book to be the bible of the work of Jacob Lawrenece. As a collector of Lawrence's work, I must say this book was the first step. I truly believe that this is the one book that captures Jacob Lawrence.

PHESANT HUNTERS THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU!!!
Please excuse my spelling, it's terrible This book is terrific. I started reading this book and couldn't put it down. It is a fine collection of stories ranging from the great soilbank days when Kansas alone had 4 million birds to the Royal hunts in Europe where an average daily bag mesaures in the thousands, It has stories more like mine where the average hunt ends with tired dogs and few birds. The book through it's many differant authors also explores the ethics associated with hunting. This book is for the bird hunter who's cleaning his gun for the third time this week when hunting season isn;t for 6 months. It's for the guy who can't stop dreaming of how his new pup will do his first time out. It's for the guy who spends more time with his dogs than with his wife. All hunters will enjoy this book, but the true bird hunter won;t be able to put it down.

Reinventing Public Education: How Contracting Can Transform America's Schools (Rand Research Study)
Published in Hardcover by University of Chicago Press (1997)
Authors: Paul T. Hill, Lawrence C. Pierce, and James W. Guthrie
Amazon base price: $50.00
Average review score:

The Future of American Education lies within this book.
After reading Reinventing Public Education, I believe that the only really hope for the future of American education lies in the contracting approach to public education that the authors describe. This is one of the only books on education I have ever read that understands that the problems with public education in this country have less to do with a lack of standards, poor teaching methods, or inequitable funding, than a system which fails to understand that schools are organizations that can only be successful through organic growth rather than government regulation. This book will appeal to both voucher supporters and ardent defenders of a public education system that is committed to educating all its students

A real page-turner!
Assata, is an autobiography that travels at a fast pace and it's hard to put down because you will truly anticipate the conclusion.

The book Assata gives great insight into the role that women played in the Black Panther Party and contrary to popular belief the women did not take the back seat.

The book is a journey through Assata's life. As a child she lived with her mother in New York and came down South (Wilmington, North Carolina to be exact) to visit her grandparents in the summer.

In Wilmington--home of the "Wilmington 10" and an 1898 coup d'etat(if you don't know about these events please ask somebody)--she got a first hand view of segregation. It is my opinion that her experiences as a child down South made her aware of the struggle of Black people.

She went through various rebellious phases as a young adult and eventually found her way to the Black Panther Party. From this point forward you begin to see through the eyes of a comrade in th! is movement.

The book deals with her expereinces with COINTELPRO (the U.S. counterintelligence program created to destablize certain civil rights organizations, particularly the BPP) to an incident on a New Jersey turnpike that leaves two highway patrolmen dead.

Although she was sentenced to life in prison, she now resides in Cuba. To find out how she wound up there, I guess you will have to read the book.

Among other reasons, this book continues to be timely and relevant because Assata continues to be a war cry for supporters of tightened sanctions against "Castro's Cuba".

ABSOLUTELY DIVINE
THIS BOOK IS THEE MOST INTICING BOOK I HAVE EVER LAID MY EYES ON. IT FOLLOWS THE STORY OF A BEAUTIFUL, BLACK WOMAN BY THE NAME OF ASSATA WHO IS A BLACK PANTHER MEMBER AND FIGHTING FOR EVERY DAY RIGHTS. TRUST ME YA'LL, YA'LL GOT TO READ IT, CUZ HOME GIRL GOT YA HEAD TURNING IN SUSPENSE!

FYI THERE IS A SONG DEDICATED TO HER ON COMMON'S (RAPPER OF THE HIT SONG "THE LIGHT") NEW CD "LIKE WATER FOR CHOCALATE" ENTITLED "ASSATA FEATURING CEE-LO FROM GOODIE MOB!

SO GO ON NOW, ENJOY!

Assata - great book, radical and moving
Assata has it all. Not any member of the Black Panthers (which would probably be a good story by itself), but a strong, poetic, female Panther who is tried again and again by the FBI and survives each time until she escapes prison. She grows up and develops her principles. She helps start Panther programs in her community. She wittnesses the FBI's spies in the organization and how well they disrupt it. She is framed and arrested. She is convicted of murder and sent to the highest security prison. She escapes. >> This is all revealed on the back and does not ruin the story.

Assata wrote this herself and mixes between the story of being beaten by police while in a hospital with her family, childhood, working, college and Panther experiences and begins each chapter with her poetry.

Everyone should see Assata's perspective. It is guaranteed to stun you , move you and make you think. Everyone should read this.

Frightening
A frightening ghost tale. The writing is not exceptional and the story's possibilities could have been more fully developed. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the story and found the hairs on the back of my neck standing up. A good, old-fashioned ghost story with a shocking ending.

A gripping suspenceful ghost story
Tragically sad and painfully horrifying, this book is hauntingly surreal, well plotted and written in an accessible and readable style.

Breathtakingly frightening!
This story makes the reader realize the true meaning of the word "haunting". It is simple, clean, straightforward story telling which builds to the kind of terror where the hair raises on your arms and the back of your neck. It is a true shame that the book is not available currently; the publisher would do well to restock as soon as possible. For those of us who enjoy that quiet creepy feeling in the dead of night that you can get only by reading the most well written ghost story, this is the book!

Exellent book. Helps kids understand plantation life.
This book was one of the best books that I've ever read. I've trying to find other books by Barbara Smucker. I really can't explain the way I feel about this book, but I know that they are definantly positive feelings

An overall good book
I had to read this book for a project at school and all I could think was "oh great, another dumb book to read", but after all, it was a great book. It really helps you understand about how the life of a slave was in the early 1800's. The two main characters (Julily and Liza) never give up their hope on their trip to Canada. Julily's Mammy Sally is a very strong character in this book about the Underground Railroad. She does age a bit when Julily finally finds her at the end of the book in "the free land", Canada, but Julily still loves her just as much as she did when she left her. This book should make Canadians feel proud of the free country that we live in. Overall, I enjoyed this book very much.

A "Must" Read
This book is full of excitement, thrill and just pure attention-grabbing. I was ecstatic when I found out that my seventh grade class would be reading this book for novel study. I read this book in fifth grade and I loved it then and still do now. Barbara Smucker's way of combining true history into an action-packed novel is magnificent. Overall, this book is tremendous and I reccomend it to all ages.
