Flower Wreath Hill: Later Poems
Published in Paperback by New Directions Publishing (1991)
Author: Kenneth Rexroth
Amazon base price: $9.95
Used price: $5.00
Average review score:

Among Rexroth's best
Rexroth's earliest poetry was pure expressionism. He later moved into a "cubist" phase, combining disparate elements, aiming at an organic whole. Poems from this phase seem almost "stream of consiousness". With "Flower Wreath Hill: Later Poems", Rexroth returns to his roots. However, although the form is almost narrative in clarity, the imagery is often mystical and hallucinogenic. In essence, the cubist diction is abandoned; in it's place there is a juxtaposition of imagery which is striking, powerful and very accessible. This work also contains a number of translations. While Rexroth was an apt linguistic scholar, his translations draw their strength from his understanding of context and idiom rather than his ability as a wordsmith. All in all, the work is beautiful and moving. It will remain on your bookshelf and eventually announce it's age with it's worn binding rather than with it's coat of dust.

The very best in dictionaries for any language.
Let's face it, dictionary-making is one of the most difficult linguistic tasks when working with any language. The decisions are complex and often require detailed analysis far beyond the skills of a single linguist. This dictionary is a true team effort and has been decades in the making. Much of the team membership are native speakers of Hopi as well.

This dictionary is a truly outstanding effort and deserves a place in every library of languages and linguistics, whether the library is focused on the languages of Native America or not. There are only a couple dozen dictionaries in the world that clearly exceed the exhaustiveness and production quality of this volume. This dictionary of Hopi is the very best dictonary to have been produced for ANY language of Native America. It is superior to dictionaries of the majority of minority languages of Europe as well.

As far as size and production quality, it exceeds most "college-level" dictionaries of English, although not quite as large as the "unabridged" dictionaries of English.

With the imminent extinction of many of the languages of the Americas, this dictionary is unlikely to be superseded as the dictionary we all wish we could make.

Pandemonium: Freaks Magicians & Movie Stars Special

A must-own for Johnny Eck fans.
This issue features a treasure trove for magicians and Johnny Eck fans. The cover photo of Johnny is the best I've ever seen. Featuring excerpts from a telephone interview with the man himself, along with Johnny's typewritten unfinished autobiography, Pandemonium Vol. 3 is the only place you can find so much Johnny information in his very own words. And Johnny was a consumate story teller: his words are a treat. Lavishly garnished with fabulous photographs -- from a darling shot of Johnny and twin brother Robert as babies in frocks, through a series of photos of rehearsals for the legendary "Miracles of 1937" sawing-in-half routine, to an elderly Johnny grinning on the front stoop of his Baltimore row home -- this issue is a treat for the eyes as well as the brain. If you can get a copy, by all means buy it.

Great college text: Clear, concise and relevent
If you're interested in Consumer Behavior, grab this book. The writers of Consumer Behavior seem to have the student of all ages in mind. For both undergraduate to MBA programs, I felt the content (from case studies to psychological buyer behavior), lives up to its name.

The premise of the book: how understanding buyer behavior influences overall strategy.

If you're looking for a self-tutorial in Consumer Behavior, this is it.

It's OK... could be better
Quite well written, but the sections on combustion thermodynamics are a little weak and don't address enough of the issues usually expected in the treatment of thermo. Unfortunately there just is not one book on the market that can be called THE combustion text.
