A must for the Henson fan
I grew up on Jim Henson's Muppets as did many, many others. This book shows so much of Henson's life (he was cute!) and the legacy of the Muppets. From Sam and Friends to Seasame Street to Labyrinth and so many other wonderful works. The behind the scene stories are wonderful (I especially like the story of the pipe closet). I also like the pages from The Muppet Show that show every guest on the show. I know this review sounds like a lot of fluff, but this is Jim Henson I'm talking about. I can't imagine my life without his creations.

THIS IS ONLY THE BSET MUPPET BOOK THERE IS!!!!!
I am so sorry that I could not put in 5 million stars. I go to the library everyday and read this book while awaiting to be picked up, and I never get tired of it, this is the BEST book there is, it tells you everything with awesome pictures to go with it, I can't say enough about this book, its the BEST. I am hoping to join the Muppet clan ASAP. I can't wait, the Muppets are the best invention anyone has ever come up with. Jim Henson is the best person in the world, and I only wish I could thank him for all the things he has done for me and everyone else.

The Best Book Ever Written!
Christopher Finch does a great job of detailing Jim Henson's life. He includes colorful pictures and stories about Henson from his colleagues and friends. "Jim Henson The Works" always keeps your interest by containing interesting and fun sidebars. Every Muppet fan should read this book.

Jim Henson's "the Storyteller"
Published in Hardcover by Knopf (1997)
Author: Anthony Minghella

Fabulous!
This book is fabulous. I grew up watching these stories come to like on the Jim Henson Hour, and I love having these stories at my finger tips. The stories are very intersting and original. The art work in the book is also fabulous!! They match the television portrail of story exactly. I am so glad that I am able to read and share these stories with my friends and family!

The language of storytelling
The television series was one of the best things ever to be shown on TV, but it's more than worthwhile to pick up this book just to be able to focus on Anthony Minghella's (yep, he of "The English Patient") way with words. Minghella doesn't just write good narration, he writes good, old-fashioned story-telling. Like, say, Kipling's Just-So Stories, Minghella's Jim Henson's 'The Storyteller' captures the language of the very best tale tellers.

One of the best pieces of magic ever written
Many years ago my family sat around the television, wide eyed and filled with magic; we were watching the Jim Henson Storyteller series. We waited and waited for it to reappear one day- to no avail. But FINALLY, a book! To be able to relive the "hugs and snoodles" of Hans My Hedghog, the stone soup tale of a "Story Short"- all of it beautifully, and creatively written, with illustrations to match- will take you back to your childhood. I find it hard to believe this has yet to be discovered. Don't miss the videos that are now out, at long last!

The best infant gift around
My son loved this book from 0-12 months and he is 2 and still looks at it often. The photos of the babies capture a baby's attention and makes this book a favorite. I give this book as a gift to everyone I know who has a baby!

Baby Play
My son loves this book! It always calms him down and brings a smile to his face.

Baby Loves This Book!
Parents of infants should know if you don't already--babies love to look at other babies! My son asks to read this a lot. Each page has a muppet interacting with a baby, for instance, the first page has a "Dinger" puppet, a "Honker" puppet, and a baby playing a drum, with the words, "Ding, Ding, Honk, Honk, Rat-a-tat-tat."

This is definitely a baby book, because each page has only 3 or 4 words, and the concepts are very simple, such as dressing up, bathing, napping, etc.

One last interesting thing to note is that Jim Henson was an editor of this book.

What can I say? It was great!
If you're a fan of Henson's work you'll absolutely die for this book! It's got great coverage over his past movies to 91. Some include The Dark Crystal, The great muppet Caper, and my personal favorite: THe Labyrinth!

awsome!!!!!!!
This book is great if you want to learn more about the movies that the creature workshop did instead of Jim Henson. Although it does talk alot about him it's more about the workshop he created and left behind. It's a grest book if you love Jim Henson's work and I do !Get it it's great!

Jim Henson {Fraggle} Rocks!
Since skipping school to go and watch 'Labyrinth'. I've been fascinated with animatronics. The creatures produced both during and after Jim Henson have been both imaginative and captivating. 'No Strings Attached' is a wonderful book of mechanical invention, artistry and imagination. Being someone who loves to watch 'The making of..' specials on TV whenever a new special-effects blockbuster comes out, I found this book catered to my 'Wow! How did they do that?' curiosity. I am a great fan of puppetry but I am a biased fan of Jim Henson...if you buy this book, turn to page 112, the girl kneeling on one knee on the bottom right corner is yours truly!

EXCELLENT
My 2.5 years old son falls in love with this book. He reads it every night. Every night, he will take out this book from the shelf and asks me to tell what the sesame street muppet did in the pages. Once I stop, he will say : "Turn the page, Mum, No stop. Please read me this book!" If you don't ask him to stop reading, he will continue to read this book till late night. This book is really a unusal dictionary that the family with little child should have one.

Sorry it's out of print!
This book is not just for toddlers. It is the only dictionary I have seen that puts standard sight words into meaning. Particulary children with learning disabilities have a very difficult time understand the concept of sight words. With a very playful, visual and active descriptive of the sight words, it brings life to the meaning of the words, and it eases in the retention of these words when reading. This book is excellent for children with reading disabilities - up until the 3rd or 4th grade.

An excellent book to grow up with
This book is wonderful for children from ages 2 and up. My 2 year old is not yet ready to learn definitions, but the book is filled with colorful, easy to see pictures, in which he can identify his beloved Sesame Street characters, as well as the activities that they portray. This is one of the few books that he doesn't want to put down. So many pages makes it something new each and every time we pick it up. I cannot tell you the extent of the knowledge he has gained from this book. Several of his daycare teachers have told me how amazing he is in what he knows and comprehends for a child his age. His knowledge and perception of things took off immediately following our Sesame Street Dictionary reading sessions. This is a book that will continue to give as he grows older and begins learning the concepts and definitions of these words, not to mention when he begins reading and writing!

Excellent Book
I am 21 years old, and still remember being handed this book before going to the hospital when I was quite young. I remember feeling more comfortable with all of the things I would see, and feeling safer knowing that Grover did not have a scary time :) I would absolutely recommend this book to parents of children who will be having a hospital stay.

Terrific resource
My son has had numerous surgeries, from open-heart surgery to the placement of ear tubes. This book was recommended to us by the Child Development Department at Boston Children's Hospital several years ago and it has become part of our pre-op routine. Prior to each surgery, we read this book over, and over, and over again! It is a terrific book for the toddler: the words are simple, the characters are very recognizable from Sesame Street, and Grover has a good experience. Our son takes the book, his Fisher Price medical kit, and Tickle Me Elmo whenever he goes into the hospital. Obviously, we highly recommend this book, regardless of the type of surgical experience.

Excellent!
I sent this book to my 4 yr old niece just before she went to have her tonsils removed. It really helped her without scaring her. She even brought it to the hospital so her parents could read it to her again! Perfect for this age group!

Some of the Best.
This book includes the music and lyrics for some of the best and all time favorite songs of The Muppets. Songs from Sesame Street, The Muppet movies, and even "Muppet Babies" are included. Two of my favorites are "The Rainbow Connection" and "The Muppet Show Theme". Great for Muppet fans and useful for anyone who has a piano.

Awesome
An awesome piano book for all ages, especially if you're a muppet fan. The arrangements are great. The songs come from the classic Muppet movies & tv shows. I rate this song book with 5 out of 5. The songs are- AB/C/DEF/GHI, C IS FOR COOKIE, DREAM FOR YOUR INSPIRATION, THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENS, FRAGGLE ROCK THEME, GREEN(BEIN' GREEN), HAPPINESS HOTEL, IT'S UP TO YOU, MAH-NA MAH-NA, MOVIN' RIGHT ALONG, MUPPET BABIES THEME, THE MUPPET SHOW THEME, THE RAINBOW CONNECTION, & ROCKET TO THE STARS

RUBBER DUCKIE SAYING GOODBYE

wonderful sheet music!!
This collection of sheet music of many Muppet favorites is a must-have for all Muppet fans, as well as any household with children. With such classics as the Muppet Show Theme Song and Bein' Green, how could this be anything but a great investment?

No one's too old for Labyrinth
Since I was only nine, I adored the movie. I read the book a little while later, and I love that even more. Things aren't identical to the movie, exactly, making it a whole new experience. I wish I had a copy of my own, but they're hard to find. So, if you find it, you won't regret purchasing. It's wonderful for all ages, and each time you read, you'll find something you missed the time before.

Jereth, Sarah and Toby....and odd group
This is a wonderful tale of love, infatuation, and family laced with adventure, friendship, hardship, and triumph. I first read this book in Junior High and later saw the movie. The book in my opinion was much better than the movie, but I found both exceptional.

Sarah made a wish she should have never made, and found out the had way that some wishes do come true. Her baby brother Toby is now missing and she is struggling to find him. She embarkes of a journey where she meets and makes friends who accompany her on her journeys. Just when she thinks she might just win the game, Jereth, King of the Goblins and Toby's captor, throws another wrench into the works.

Through dangers untold...
There is no way I can write a review good enought for this novel. It is, hands WAY down, the best fantasy ever written. It is the biggest shame that it should be out of print, and that the only place to find it anymore is on the internet. There is no way that you can not fall in love with every single character, especially Jareth, the seductive, and evil, yet good Goblin King. It is the essence of magic, and everyone should read it. It is a definite yes for those who saw the movie and loved it, because it holds true to the script. I'm begging the publishers, on my hands and knees, no, lower, to please please please put this book back into print. No one should miss it!

Full of activities ... for hours of reading
This book is excellent. It covers all the bases--practice with numbers, letters, shapes, opposites and more while using everyday objects and favorite characters to "teach" them all. Plus, there's the fun of lifting the "flaps" to see what's behind many different objects--an activity of great interest to children. My son just loves this book (he's 18 months). He's a big fan of reading, and this certainly would be in his top 3 favorites. I just can't say enough about this book! (As a teacher, I have a great appreciation for how well this book is organized and what all it covers. Teaching and learning is a snap with materials like this!)

Elmo
A good book for all young childrens: I leave in France and I geave this book to my little nevew. He loves it so much. It's possible for him to learn easier english. A good way to learn!

Parents beware!
Buy this book only if you're prepared to read it *all* the time! I love that this book has helped teach my 2 yo son his letters, numbers, shapes, opposites, etc., but he has to read it every night before bed and he has to sleep with it! This has been going on since we got it for Christmas! I'm so sick of it, I came online to find another Elmo lift-and-look book. For my son's bedtime reading ritual, I have to read Elmo first or he won't concentrate on the other books--constantly saying "I wanna read Elmo" as I'm trying to read a different book! Thankfully, there's enough going on each page that I can make up stories about the characters or play games like finding circles in the numbers page to mix things up a bit! Ah well, thanks Elmo :-)

Great bedtime book
My son and husband loved this song from Sesame Street so I was so excited they had a book of it. The illustrations are beautiful and my one year old loves the funny pictures of Ernie. We sing the song as a lullabye and it works like a charm!

One of those not-so-babyish Sesame Street songs
"I Don't Want to Live on The Moon" has been one of my mother's favorite songs. The song is mostly in Sesame Street episodes about space, but the main theme of this soothing song is really about having wishes rather than about going to the moon. It tells how when one has wishes, it is hard to decide whether or not he or she really wants them to come true because of the changes that might happen if they did. I sing the song when I think of my wishes and at nighttime when I see the moon. They really ought to make more books of those not-so-babyish Sesame Street songs such as, "We are all Earthlings". Buy this book for somebody who's always got wishes on their mind about which they have tough decisions.

Gorgeous Illustrations
We received this book as a gift from my sister and its fast become a favorite! Not only is the song pretty but the illustrations that Dagmar did has brought it to life. She is truly an artist of standing!! We will be sure to add more of her work to our library!
