We first checked this book out from the library on a whim. I'd never heard of the author and was just trying to grab a few books on the fly to keep my son entertained. He immediately fell in love with this book. He asked me to read it repeatedly, and it has now become his all time favorite. It is a shame it is not as popular as some of the other children's books out right now, for it is every bit as well written. It is a definite must for your child's bedtime book collection!

About two months ago, I purchased this book for my 3 year old, who is a very persistent little person. She loves this book because she likes to sleep in her parent's bed when she can't get to sleep, just like the Little Mouse in this story, who in the end, after asking many times, "Can I sleep in your bed?" finally gets to sleep in Big Mouse's bed. To my daughter, the moral of this story is that persistence pays off!
I love the book because the story is funny and very "real" to us: tired Big Mouse looks like this tired Mom some nights. My daughter and I also read this book at bedtime almost every night because the illustrations are the BEST of any book we own. They are gorgeous, full of color -- they splash across the pages, and are so creative, making the Mouse home a magic wonderland. I think my daughter would find it hard to get to sleep in the Mouse home, because it looks like such a fun place to play and explore. This book is a winner!

I really enjoy reading this book with my two little girls. The illustrations are incredible and the story very charming. A winner!

"Back Soon", is a truly touching story about a kitten named Herbert and his mother. Herbert's mother always goes out and leaves him with his relatives, before she leaves she always tells him "Back Soon!" and sometimes she dosn't come back as quickly as Herbert would like. One day Herbert dicides to give his mother a little taste of her own medicine, he goes out to the garden to play for a little while, before he leaves he tells his mother, "Back soon!" he gets distracted and stays out for a longer than he expected. His mother misses him sorely, and when he hears her sadley call his name he runs right back to her. They let each other know no matter how long they are out,or away, they will always come back to each other. The book had beautiful illustrations and people of all ages can understand and enjoy it.

In this wonderful children's book, the house on Exeter Street goes from crowded to overflowing as more guests, both expected and unexpected, arrive on Christmas Eve. Grandparents, uncles from South Africa, stranded travelers and the children from next door keep showing up until people, dogs and cats are sleeping in the attic, in the basement, in the cupboards, on window sills and even in the bathtub! Santa, when he arrives, has to take off his socks and count on his toes to be sure he's remembered everyone. The illustrations are detailed and charming, and the story telling is simple but moving. In my family, this book is a favorite and gets read daily during the Christmas season. The whimsy and warmth appeal to children and grown-ups alike. Unfortunately, this book is out of print, so if you find it, grab it!

I felt like I was reading a re-make of Mary Poppin, except it has far less details, and did not put too much into building the characters of the book. It's good for a quick read.
Excellent for children though 'cause everything is laid out clearly.
