Specific, useful remedies and treatments.
Folk Remedies From Around the World provides folk remedies not from solely American sources, but from folk cultures around the world, offering something different to those interested in more than Western medicine alone. Some of the comments and information may prove controversial to many - such as the comments against chemotherapy for treating cancer - but the remedies are specific and useful.

A good book with a great deal of versatility
This is a good book to start with if you want to expose yourself to different methods of rapid weight loss. If you are a fan of fruits and vegetables, this may be a really good book to look into because a lot of the strategies involve these specific foods as the basic foundation. It's a good way to segue into a better way of eating for health and fitness. I would suggest also that anyone interested in a weight reduction program be cautious with any method that they use, but this may be a sound beginning for those seeking change.

Heinerman's Encyclopedia of Healing Juices

Excellent, Excellent Guide
I truly use this book as my juicing reference guide. At first I was disappointed in the structure of the book in that it was listed by vegetable and fruit names. I wanted the standard listing of recipes under the standard categories and boy am I glad this one is not like that. I have other juice books that give me enough recipes to cure anything that ails me. What this book provides is very good info about all the ingredients in a recipe and you can figure out subsitutions in an intelligent manner. This book is worth its weight in gold for that alone. I mean all of us just can't get into parsley now can we. Get this book it's worth every penny.

worth every cent in saved medical bills
This book isn't the easiest to read!! It is best used as the first line of defense when your not feeling well. The book is an excellent source of reading up on the basics of juicing. Don't know what Juicer to buy this book tells you the pluses and minus of all major juicers on the market and no not one juicer will do it all as much as you may have hoped to buy only one product. I personally recommend the book. Bria

valuable guide to juicing fruits and vegetables
You won't need a juicer to appreciate this readable reference on juicing (and using) a variety of fruits and vegetables. A medical anthropologist and author of other books on the healing properties of foods, Dr. Heinerman now focuses on juicing. After you choose an ailment (or a fruit or a vegetable), you will respect Dr. Heinerman's scholarship in compiling the beneficial uses of juices. Each chapter on a juice (for instance, "Lettuce Juice") documents its botanical history, description, usage and nutritive values. The anecdotes and testimonials provide strong evidence for the therapeutic qualities of fruits and vegetables -- and their juices. Any juicer you buy will get you started with some good recipes, and this text will augment your choices and combinations of juice. You'll soon be juicing every day, and on into the 21st century. Appendices include helpful information on picking a juicer, uses for the pulp by-product, supplemental commercial products, and recipes

Interesting reading
If you're looking for nutritional information on fruits and/or vegetables than this is NOT your book. The book does contain interesting information on the healing properties of myriad fruits and vegetables but most of it is based on anecdotal information (ie a "friend") although some studies are mentioned. However I do believe that the book does make an interesting read.

A great guide for info on fruits and vegetables.
This book gives the reader a great guide book, with loads of info on a large variety of fruits and vegetables. A must for anyone considering a vegetarian diet.

Spiritual Wisdom of the Native Americans
Published in Paperback by Cassandra Pr (1989)
Author: John Heinerman
Amazon base price: $9.95

Dr. Heinerman unable to get past his LDS belief.
Dr. Heinerman allowed his LDS (Mormon) faith to influence his perceptions of Native American Spirituality.

On pages 118 and 119 Dr. Heinerman implies that indians worshiped nature.

Native people did NOT worship nature! They worshiped the Creator (The Great Spirit), and treated nature with reverence and respect.

How can one worship the Creator then disrespect creation? I make these statements from my perceptions of following the red road.

Dr. Heinerman; jumps around between many different American Indian Nations (Aztec, Blackfoot, Cherokee, Crow, Hopi, Mayan, Sioux, and others) without covering any of them in enough depth to assist one in their studies.

Please see my listmania lists for the best books (in my opinion) in assorted categories including Native American Spirituality

The truth about the origin of America's first peole,at last!
Heinerman discloses secrets that most students of American Indians only imagined existed. His discoveries are like treasures of truths revealed with professionalism and reverance. His respect for Native Americans is reflected throughout his well supported book. His connections with the ancients of ancients is right on track with modern day discoveries. He provides the best explantions for the origins of a very special race of people, which he connects with God's CHOOSEN of the Middle East. Heinerman's religious beliefs are well grounded in the importance of progressing Spiritually...rather than through traditional church worship. He presents his Mormon experiences on a personal basis rather than trying to please Church leaders, which is extremely refreshing. The pioneers of the Mormon church are surely smiling on this man's return to the importance of realizing to whom the Book of Mormon was written ...THE NATIVE AMERICANS. I personally feel truly enlighten by the Spiritual Wisdom shared by John Heinerman, Ph.D.

Heinerman's Encyclopedia of Healing Herbs & Spices

Heinerman's Herbal is well-researched.
Not only does this book contain all the traditional herbal lore found in previous volumes down through the ages, but also cites and includes the most recent research into the nature of the herbs themselves and their chemical compositions. He tells you not only what the herb or spice is good for medicinally, but also *why*; which chemicals in the herbs are the active ingredients and what effect they have on the body's systems. This will enable the skilled herbalist to combine the most effective remedies and treatments for each individual person's needs and tolerances. I have found this book to be one that has replaced the use of several older herbals on my bookshelf.

This Book is a Joke!
When I first started reading the book, I thought it was tongue in cheek humor, but John is actually serious!

If you believe everything that is told to you by any Mormon authority, if you soak up every word that proceeds out of "Temple Square" and believe it unquestioningly, then you will find this book an interesting collection of faith promoting "rumors" that have some scientific quips associated with them. On the other hand, if you don't regard the words of the early Mormon Church leaders as the word of God, then you will find this book to be a gross twisting of science that tries to support their ignorant statements about the nature of our solar system.

Joseph Smith, Brigham Young and other early Mormon leaders made several statements about the Moon and Sun and Venus being inhabited by humans. John Heinerman Ph.D. quotes these statements as "evidence" as if they are fact just because Mormon leaders said so. In reality, these were the statements of superstitious Bible fanatics. He claims a conspiracy to hide the "barefoot tracks" discovered by the Apollo Astronauts! He also quotes Mormon prophet Willford Woodruff's journal entry about how the planet Venus was really once part of the Earth, taken up by the power of God, leaving the Gulf of Mexico where the land used to be.

This book is so full of baloney, it's only real value is to show how ridiculous some peoples beliefs are. Like many Mormons, John Heinerman's downfall is that he believes the statements of superstitious men living in the early 1800's to be fact and then uses any scientific sounding bits and pieces to try to make these ridiculous ideas seem credible. The really sad thing is that I know many people who believe like John. The state of Utah is full of people that believe the Earth is only 6000 years old and that the fossils we find in it's strata are extra-terrestrial in origin, being left in the pieces of other planets that God allegedly used to form the one we live on. It almost makes me sad to think that we live in a world where real science is so blatantly ignored.

Do Quakers live on the Moon? Was the earth really 90 times bigger when it was created 6000 years ago? Did God really scoop up a big chunk of the Earth up and make the planet Venus? Do St. John the revelator and the Lost Ten Tribes of Israel live on the asteroid Chiron?

No!

But, John Heinerman Ph.D. would have you believe so.

If I were the head of the institution that gave John his Ph.D., I would be highly embarrassed. This book is classic anti-science at it's worst. (Read Carl Sagan's book: The Demon Haunted World) John's book fails most of Carl's baloney detection tests. The author assumes that only the scientific theories that are in agreement with early Mormon teachings are true and other theories or findings that don't are false. When one assumes the uttering of Joseph Smith Jr., (a man who claimed to receive revelation from God by looking at a "seer" stone placed in his hat) to be scientifically sound, then gathers only what "scientific evidence" seems to support him, a book like this is the result.

Quakers do not live on the moon. The Sun is not inhabited. No one lives on Venus. The earth is at least 4.6 billion years old. Death has always existed on this planet. John Heinerman Ph.D. is full of baloney!

The Universe is multi-dimensional
If you accept science, that multiple dimensions do exist, this book will mean a lot to you. If not, you are probably assuming that a telestial instrument (satellites/orbiters) made by man can detect or view either terrestrial or celestial inhabitants on our neighboring planets. The information in this book came from supernatural sources and will only be viewed by the same means.
