Wonderful book
I read this book to my daughter one evening and we giggled together for the longest time. It is a very cute story about the friendship of a rooster, pig and mouse, and Helme Heine's illustrations are just whimsical and silly and fun. He is a master of subtlety in the characters' facial expressions and gestures, has a great eye for unique perspectives and angles, and the gentle tones of the watercolors complement the text beautifully. This can be said not only of this book, but of everything by Helme Heine. I highly recommend Mollywoop and Friends, which are two of his other books that feature these same lovable characters, but don't stop there. I have yet to read one of his books that wasn't a first-rate work of art.

Friends Go Adventuring
When my daughter and I read Friends, which also written and illustrated by Helme Heine, she really likes this book. She asked me to read it again, and again. She likes Johnny mouse, fat Percy and Charlie rooster who are good friends and do anything together. The text is simple but kids like those adventures. The pictures are also colorful and attractive. Now she had the second book about the three friends' adventures. She is really enjoy listening the story and seeing the pictures. Let her imagine she goes adventuring with Johnny,Percy and Charlie.

A child's-eye view of a loving God.
Bible stories must be the hardest stories of all to illustrate. There are so many dreadful ones Ã' either too cute or much too bloody and war-like to be appropriate for small children. It's sad how many publishers seem to believe that parents will accept any cheap and ugly illustrations just because it is the Bible. Personally, I think the fact that you are illustrating the Bible gives you an even greater responsibility to offer children something beautiful, something they can truly and deeply love.

I truly and deeply love this book. In just a few sentences, Helme Heine tells the Biblical story of Creation. But it is the illustrations that make it a treasure. His watercolors are gentle, peaceful images of jungles and plains, icebergs and waterfalls, and all the creatures of the earth. But best of all is his portrait of God as a creator with a Santa Claus-like beard, a gentle, intelligent face and mud all over his jacket from all his hard work. He's an artist, a sculptor, a gardener, a scientist, a tinkerer, and a thinker. My favorite picture in the book is of God gazing lovingly out his window at Adam and Eve (who look like they are four or five years old) as they play a game of chase. It is such a wonderful image of God I can't imagine any child not loving the image they find in this book.

This is one of the very best Bible stories for children I have ever seen.

Sweet story with charming illustrations
This is a darling story and you don't know how things will turn out, so its a real page turner for the little child! The drawings are lovely! It was great fun, and a nice book to read over and over.

Whimsy, sweetness & wonderful illustrations
This absolutely charming tale is told simply, yet carries such a potent message about friendship -- such as thoughtfulness and consideration, teamwork and the art of compromise... and accepting differences. The illustrations are delightful and made my children and I laugh out loud. We can't wait to read "Friends Go Adventuring!" We're going to investigate all of Helme Heine's books.

Wonderful for people 8, 18, and 80.
I loved this book very much. I was given my copy when I was 3 and till this very day I still have the paperback edition.. I simply love it.. its not sophisticed like books that are impossible for the little ones to read.

Disappointed!
My children (5 & 6) and I were so disappointed! The artwork in this book was very pleasing, but the story just seemed so flat. The intended surprises were not very surprising, and the ending could have been predicted by anyone (even a chicken).

The Most Wonderful Egg in the World
I liked this book. The king announces a contest to produce the most beautiful egg in the kingdom. Three chickens do just that but in three different ways. What's a king to do? I not only thought that it was a great story but that there was a simple lesson within its pages for both children and parents. This book is a must have for any one who has children who in constant competition for outdoing every one else in the family. Also, the book gives insight to the parents on how to deal with this competition when you think that each of your children posess special talent. Parents of multiples would especially enjoy this book.
