Well-done and unique
Lorraine Heath definitely makes her books unique and well done. Always to remember is similar to Sweet Lullaby in that the point of view is mostly through the eyes of a male. A touching story about a man, Clay, who comes back from war and branded a coward because of his choice not to fight. He suffered through the years during and after the war. He comes back, and the townpeople are outraged that he had the nerve to come back when others died fighting for the Cause. One of them is Meg who decides to punish Clay for his cowardness by building a statue for the town. Yet, Meg later turns her hatred into love when she realizes that Clay is a compassionate, caring man.

If you have read Lorraine Heath's books, this is one to keep as a collection. It's a great story to warm your heart. If you haven't read her books, you are missing out! All her book are awesome and must have's, especially Texas Splendor(heart-warming and will touch your heart)

Captivating! Clay Holland is one of my favorite heroes...
Clay Holland was willing to die for his beliefs, but he was unwilling to kill for them. When he refused to fight for the Confederacy, he was imprisoned and tortured. When he returned to his hometown of Cedar Grove, he was ostracized and shunned and branded the town "coward".

Meg, who lost her husband and 3 brothers to the war, hates Clay with all her heart for refusing to pick up a gun for the Confederacy. She commissions him to sculpt a memorial to honor the 22 men from Cedar Grove who died in the war. She hopes to punish him severely for his cowardice. However, her plan goes awry as she spends time in Clay's presence.

As the reader, you feel Clay's utter loneliness, despair, and isolation. You also feel his quiet strength and courage. Meg is a bit harder to like, but her losses explain a lot of her actions.

ALWAYS TO REMEMBER is a beautiful story of courage and love. Don't miss this very original and heartwrenching book!

A Beautiful Twist on Romance
The characters in this story will touch your heart and have you thinking of them for days. The twist in their relationship is unlike any I have ever read. Lorraine Heath writes from the heart -- your heart. Don't miss this one.

I don't normally cry when I read but get your tissues out
This sat on my shelf for over a year before I picked it up and thought what the heck I'll read this. The cover was not appealing to me but I really love all of Lorraine Heath books so I figured I needed to read this one. OH! MY! GOSH! I was balling, not just a little teary eyed but all out crying. I would like to know where there is such a man as Jake. To have suffered as much as he did and to love as much as he could love. Rebecca was so unworthy of him. To have his love but to still be in love with the father of her baby you just wanted to reach in the book and shake her and say are you stupid or something.

This book starts out with Rebecca pregnant from a man she met on her fathers ranch. This man left her without knowing she was pregnant. She had the image of her first love and clung to this. Jake works on the ranch and Rebecca's father ask Jake to marry her. Jake has loved Rebecca since he started working there. Jake marries her and they move to Texas. This is where the stroy really begins and the depth of Jakes love and the heartached he has been through is revealed.

There are other twist and turns that they go through but this is a fast paced page turner that will make you fall in love with Jake over and over again.

Unique romance
This is definitely an unique romance story I've read after reading hundreds of romance books (literally!) In that, instead of the usual act of selfless love and dedication mostly done by women characters, it is the man who displays these emotions and actions. An average guy who falls in love with a beautiful woman who doesn't notice until after their marriage of a few months. He loves her unconditionally even though she was pregnant with another man's seed and in love with the man who deserted her, the opposite of Jake, handsome and self-absorbed. It was heart-warming to see how Jake's character was displayed throughout the book. You can feel his pain when he goes through pain and letting go of his love.

I admire Jake for his unconditional love towards Rebecca even though she doesn't return those emotions back til later when she chooses her life to be with her love who deserted her. I think the book would have been better if Rebecca had more of a stronger character. She doesn't really give a reason to her love for Brett except perhaps the physical attraction. She doesn't fight for her marriage to work, and leaves so that she could be with Brett. If she had a stronger character, she would have realized from the start that Brett wasn't the man for her, especially when she catches a naked woman in his bed! But she ignores that incident, and accept's his infidilities. She then realizes her love for Jake, and comes back. Jake was appreciated more in the story and others see his unique strong character to admire and want, how could Rebecca turn him down for someone who she felt physically attracted to? I am pleased with Lorraine Heath's writing, she's a great writer! My favorite and I would highly recommend is Texas Splendor, an awesome heart-felting romance.

A sweet and fulfilling story
I have read a number of Lorraine Heath's books but this was a bit of a change. It is a very sweet, moving and inspiring story of a man whose love knows no limits, a woman who is learning to find herself and an extraordinary marriage which, ultimately, brings poignant happiness and completion to a man and a woman who truly deserve it.

Rebecca is pregnant by another man (a juvenile, hormone inspired first lust who is not what she thought) and is married to Jake, a man who has overcome a past of pain, humiliation and rejection. However, he has a bottomless heart and a love for Rebecca which allows him to let her walk away. Ultimately, however (this is a romance after all!) she returns giving him (and therefore herself) such happiness that you just know these two will continue on in one of those very special marriages which brings completion to both partners and the children they produce.

This is a keeper to be reread from time to time for the pleasure of watching these two people find their happiness and love.

This is one of the most heart warming books I have ever read. Ms Heath takes you into her characters lives as no other romance author does, she starts building her characters from the first page. She grabs hold of your heart strings and does not let you go until the last page. This is a two kleenex box book. Must read !!

Four and a HALF stars...even better than Texas Destiny!
A good man who needs love and doesn't know it; a fine woman who needs freedom and love, and knows it. : ) After reading the first of the TEXAS books, I didn't much care for Dallas, the cold fish. BUT....Ms. Heath, who has an absolute talent for making my heart warm and my eyes gushy, has redeemed this ambitious, empire-builder and given her readers a story full of what we want--good people, true love, obstacles to overcome, and an ending requiring a handful of tissues.

All I can say is BUY Ms. Heath's romances! ALWAYS TO REMEMBER is high on my romance keeper shelf, as is PARTING GIFTS. I am eager to read Austin's story in the next TEXAS book. I hope Ms. Heath's editor gives her the go-ahead to write two more: the story of that sexy preacher and the story of the boy-waif in this latest novel.

Mir Schultz

Awesome-2nd in a series of 3
At first I did not like Dallas. You learn about him and his family in the fist book Texas Destiny. The reason I didn't like him was for what he wanted out of life and how he went about reaching his goal.

Dallas Leigh & the McQueen's are sworn enemies. In Texas if you own a cattle ranch the most import thing is water. The feud over the water causes Dallas to strong arm Mr. McQueen into turning over his daughter (Cordelia) into marriage.

Dallas's younger brother Austin who was best friends with the youngest McQueen son was told some very unpleasant things about Cordelia. Dallas doesn't care, all he care's about is getting a son. This leads to some very funny things on the wedding night.

I laughed out loud on several parts of this book.

There are some scenes in this book that are very unpleasant centering on a very young boy. However, the love and devotion that Dallas and Amelia begin to have help this young boy as well.

Lorraine Heath writes a very good story. Every story is a page turner. I hope you enjoy!

Texas Glory is a must read for romance fans!
After reading Texas Destiny, the first in this trilogy, I was eager for Ms. Heath's next book. I was very skeptical, however, about the main character for this book. Ms. Heath does not disappoint, though. She took a life-hardened man and let us see inside his shell. Once you understand his point of view, which is easy with Ms. Heath's insight, he becomes quite lovable. It was a joy to see how the other character's lives have progressed, and I can hardly wait to read Austin's tale!

Heartbreaking but I love it....
Ok. I think I love all of Lorraine Heaths books but this is one of my favorites. Harry, an Englishman, came to America with two of his friends (Kit and Gray) to make something of himself. Having been mistreated as a young child by his mother, Harry doesn't believe in love. During the first book in the trilogy (A Rogue in Texas), where his friend Gray finds the woman of his dreams and gets married, he meets Jessye. She's a no nonsense woman who says it like it is, even if it's not the nicest or most appropriate. They clash but ultimately become friends. In "Never Love a Cowboy" the story continues and they become closer. However, tragedy strikes, and what the characters go through is heartbreaking (I won't tell you, you'll just have to read the book). I love Harry who is the perfect gentleman (I'd love to know where they got the model for the inside book cover). All I can say is that Lorraine Heath is an outstanding author who really knows how to bring feelings into a book. I can't wait for the final book (Kits story). It won't be released until January of next year. :-(

An absolute must read!
Lorraine Heath always writes a spellbinding, emotional story, but this time she's outdone herself in NEVER LOVE A COWBOY. Harrison, an admitted scoundrel, will steal your heart and leave you breathless. While Jessye, with her search for independence, will pull you into her struggle. Their story will linger with you long after you close the book.

You won't regret this one!
I discovered Lorraine Heath about a month ago, and since then I've read 5 of her books, Never Love a Cowboy being the 5th. She has a way of creating heroes to fall in love with, heroines that you like and identify with, and she writes storylines that have me crying usually more than once.

Never Love A Cowboy epitomizes Heath's writing. Harrison is a tortured hero - he had a very troubled childhood. But he doesn't wallow in it, and in general this just adds to his scoundrel-ness, without making him a jerk. Jessye is a spitfire if there ever was one, but she's also generous, friendly, and very compassionate. She too has a pretty troubled past. When they get together, sparks fly and the dialog is fun to read.

But the book is really about the journey these two characters take together. It's not just about falling in love, but about really being in love. Something pretty traumatic happens about halfway through, and it's when the two characters try to overcome this event that you begin hoping the book will never end (and wishing you had more Kleenex handy!). Talk about a couple that breaks your heart.

So if you're in for a great love story, some wonderful characters, and a storyline that never lags, this is it. Enjoy!

(and then check out Heath's other books... none of them disappoints)

Emotional and Touching Romance
How do I begin to describe such a beautiful story as TEXAS DESTINY? I could say it's set in post civil war Texas and is a mail order bride story, and part road romance and it could even be classified as a beauty and the beast tale but that doesn't even begin to touch on the emotional impact of Ms. Heath's newest work. This book touched me from beginning to end and is a book I'll always treasure. It's also the first of a trilogy - Yayyy!

Houston Leigh's brother Dallas has broken his leg so he's unable make the trip to pick up his mail order bride-to-be Amelia Carson. Houston has hideous facial scarring on one side of his handsome face and has lived his adult life hiding in shadows and covering his face with his hat. He has shunned human contact and feels most content in the company of his horses. Because of his scars and less than charming personality Dallas feels it's safe to assume his new bride won't fall for his brother during the three week trek.

Amelia is disappointed that she has to spend three weeks with her fiance's grouchy brother but tries to make the best out of her situation by trying to engage him in conversation by bugging him with irritating questions he doesn't want to answer. Eventually she gets under his skin and although it scares him he slowly opens up to her and they form a hesitant friendship which gets stronger as the days pass and they reveal bits of themselves to each other. Both of their lives have been shattered by the war and they've both dealt with it differently. He has given up on his dreams and withdrawn from the world while she is the eternal optimist finding something to be grateful for in every situation, she looks at her future with joy waiting to make her dreams a reality. She even manages to find a dream for Houston to believe in but they despair because she is promised to his brother . . .

The hurting and lovable characters make this story so memorable. I've found in the majority of romances I've read that one character usually really comes alive while another is not as well drawn. Well, I loved the heroine as much as the hero in TEXAS DESTINY. She's a woman who has seen the worst life can do to a person but hasn't been beaten down by it. Her optimism and willingness to embrace life is refreshing _and_ believable. And Houston . . . he's my favorite kind of hero. He's a wounded soul, he's got lots of integrity, he's serious, heroic, and best of all is sensitive. He's been dealt a raw deal by life and really needs a hug. This book is so realistic: there is no witty banter during their first few days together but there are lots of awkward attempts at conversation and long silences, and Houston's trying to desperately come up with words to charm Amelia but always coming up empty was so endearing.

I know many readers avoid the Civil War period but this book is less about the war and more about the healing of two people who as children had to bear witness to human nature's darkest side. But don't think it's all darkness and pain though! The book is filled with so many tender moments my eyes were stinging and it has a quiet wit that made me smile. The longing, the soft caresses, the hot kisses, the despair and the impossible love these two share made my heart ache but somehow they always managed to maintain their senses of humor. And the sense of place is done so well I felt like I was living the story. I stayed up late reading with a flashlight until 12am last night because I just didn't want to put this book down. This is _very_ rare for me - since I get up at 5am! I'm a zombie today but boy was it ever worth it

Wonderful
This is the first book in a series of 3. I have read all of them and thoroughly enjoyed them. Lorraine Heath makes you fall in love with her characters. She does not create a typical hero. In Texas Destiny you can not help falling in love with Houston and Dallas. This book gives the foundation to the next two books. You can not help wanting to know what happens to everyone. I felt so good reading this. I guarantee you will not be disappointed if you purchase this book.

WOW- 1st in the Series of 3
I am so glad I discovered Lorraine Heath. She has a way of making you fall in love with men that are not your traditional drop dead gorgeous male. She helps you look past what is on the outside and makes you fall in love with the person. This love story between Houston and Amelia is so heart stopping. The trip that brought Amelia to Texas not only drew her closer to the man she was suppose to marry but closer to falling in love with his brother. Because of the loyalty that Houston has to his brother Dallas and he doesn't think he is worthy of anyone's love, makes for a good story.

You understand where Dallas is coming from in this story as well as wanting the two people who should be together be together. I hope you get the opportunity to read this book and the two that come after I fell in love with this family.

irresistible Victorian romance
By 1878 the Huntington estate is rapidly deteriorating. The Earl Devon Sheridan needs cash fast and decides visiting Texan Georgina Pierce, daughter of a wealthy former Civil War blockade runner, fits the bill or at least her money does. His friend Montgomery, based on first hand knowledge, warns him that marriage to a Fortune, Texas woman is different, as these ladies are independent. Ignoring the caution, Devon pursues Georgina.

To meet her dad's expectations, Georgina agrees to marry Devon though he is a widower with two children. They share a passionate first night, but her father dies just afterward and they learn she inherits nothing. Devon feels he has been conned by the Americans though he reluctantly admits to himself she brings love and joy into his home. Georgina wants a real marriage with her Earl that includes mothering his two children as well as future kids, but the latter requires a cooperation from an irate aristocrat.

Though similar in characterizations especially the lead couple with the previous tales in this series, TO MARRY AN HEIRESS is an irresistible Victorian romance. The novel enthralls the reader as the outspoken Texan is determined to make her connubiality work while helping raise his children. Meanwhile her immovable spouse tries to resist the irresistible force of love she emits so well written sub-genre fans will feel fortunate to have read the latest entry.

To Marry a Heiress
I won't go into the plot since others have but this is a beautiful book. Very very romantic. This one you won't read for the sex even though it is also sensual. The children are adorable and so is our heroine. But the hero is the one whom you feel so much for because he is a man caught up (as are a lot of men) in trying to do the right thing. But also not to let anyone know how much he feels and how deeply. He has been hurt but heals and is unhappy but becomes happy. Read it you can't miss. I have read several of Ms. Heath's other books and they are all beautifully written and moving. These English men are sure sexy.

Another treasure from this awesome writer...
London, 1878

Devon Sheridan, the Earl of Huntingdon needs an heiress -- yesterday. When he hears about an American heiress visiting England with her father, he makes a point of meeting Georgina Pierce. Sheridan also meets with Mr. Pierce, who promises his fortune to the earl as soon as he and Georgina wed. So sets the tone for a convenient marriage that neither party finds very convenient.

Georgina has already concluded that England is filled with fortune hunters and she wants to marry for love. When she hears that the Earl of Huntingdon has asked for her hand in marriage, and after only one meeting, she is naturally suspicious. But the earl seems sincere and Georgina also wants her father to be happy, so she agrees to the arrangement -- a union she quickly discovers isn't due to the earl falling head over heels in love with her.

Lorraine Heath travels from Fortune, Texas to London, England with some of the characters from her beloved "Texas" series and does so seamlessly and skillfully. Georgina is a forward-thinking woman aware of the fact that most men are attracted only to her money. Lord Huntington is presented as a devil-may-care rake until he finds out the true story about Georgina's fortune. Although he would like to claim indifference to his new bride, her fortitude and perseverance toward changing him back into some semblance of a human being, and her voluntary help on his estate, soon start to wear down his anger at what he thought was a betrayal. Her loving and caring nature toward his two young children also raises her in his esteem; his late wife never seemed to care for them as much as Georgina does.

TO MARRY AN HEIRESS is a tender, warm-hearted romance that progresses naturally from beginning to end. Georgina is a strong, willful woman unwilling to accept defeat in her quest for true love. Lord Huntingdon never stands a chance.

I highly recommend this as a fast-paced tale with many poignant and eye-opening moments for both parties. TO MARRY AN HEIRESS is another treasure to add to your Lorraine Heath keeper shelf.

Faithful fan of Lorraine Heath
I am a huge fan of Lorraine Heath and have been following the saga of the English gentlemen in Texas. So here's the skinny on this book. This is the final in a trilogy and is the story about Christian (Kit) Montgomery. In the previous two books ("A Rogue in Texas" and "Never Love a Cowboy") you learned that he was the second born son of an English nobleman, which means he will not take control of the estate when his father dies. He also was not allowed to marry the woman he loved who married his brother Christopher instead. Unfortunately Clarissa, the woman he was in love with in England, dies a painful death so Kit travels to America with his two friends (Grayson and Harry). Kits friends eventually find happiness and marry however Kit remains alone in his own grief over the death of Clarissa. Kit eventually becomes a Marshall of a small town and is approached by David Robinson, a friend, who asks him to marry his dying sister, Ahston. Kit eventually agrees to marry Ashton, whom he had met a few years earlier. Unknown to Kit, Ashton had been secretly in love with him all that time. As Kit and Ashton become closer Kit realizes he might not be able to deal with her impending death as easily as he thought. There is adventure during the story as they suffer through a stage coach accident and a shootout in their small town. Toward the end however Kit finally reveals what really happened to Clarissa and how she actually died (can't tell ya or it will spoil the story). Also, Christopher arrives from England with a little surprise of his own.

Now onto why I only gave this four stars. I was a little disappointed in Ashtons character. I was really looking forward to Kits story and expected the heroine to be stronger based upon the charachter development of Kit in the earlier stories. I also did not like how Ashton turned against Kit when he revealed his secret to her. He did what he had to, out of love for Clarissa and I was dissapointed that Ashton could not see this until she thought Kit was going to die in the shootout. I did like the secondary story involving Christopher and Elizabeth (whom you were introduced to in "A Rogue in Texas"). Other than that it was a good read and I look forward to Lorraine Heaths new book "The Outlaw and the Lady" coming in November of 2001. Heath always writes very emotional books that just make you want to cry.

Beautiful Love Story
Christain "Kit" Montgomery, the third of the rakes from London who came to Fortune, Texas to seek their fortune, is approached by David Robertson, a friend, asking Kit to wed his sister, Ashton, who is dying of consumption. At first Kit refuses, thinking he cannot go through another death after the death of his beloved Clarisse, his twin brother's wife. Later that evening he meets Ashton and changes his mind. Unbeknown to Kit Ashton fell in love with him when she met him 5 years before.

He gives Ashton a beautiful wedding and although she is supposed to leave the next day for her brother's home, Kit cannot bear to leave her. He takes her to Galveston, Texas on a honeymoon although he has promised himself that there will be consummation of the marriage. He and Ashton have a wonderful time and he develops deep feelings for her.

In the meantime, Kit's brother, Christopher and their father have arrived in Fortune, Texas, where Christopher plans to reveal a hidden secret to Kit.

Read this wonderful and you will experience a really good feeling afterwards. Another hit by Ms. Heath.

Never Marry a Cowboy
Since I'm a Texan I love all of Ms. Heath's cowboy books. This is a very moving romantic novel. He marries his best friend's sister because he is told she is dying. He is a man with a said past. He loved his brother's wife very much and she died. He blames himself. So he attempts to make up for some of it by tenderly caring for his wife. He tries to make her last days happy. I won't tell the ending but there are times you could cry for both the hero and heroine. They are so vunerable.

Cowboys Meets Girl
When forced to masquerade as a boy on a cattle drive to earn money for her family, Samantha befriends and starts to harbor feelings for lonely cattle hand Matt. After finding out that she's a girl, Matt struggles with his own feelings that have developed and whether he should turn her in to save her from getting hurt on the drive or allowing her to continue with her disguise. After a climatic stampede and some expected declarations of love, Samantha and her cowboy live happily ever after.

While it's pretty ordinary fare for a young adult romance, this novel has some interesting insight into the Civil War, though brief. It's also a fun adventure of cattle driving and there is of course the precursory romance. While it is rather unbelievable that a teenage girl could convince a group of cowboys that she's a he and the cowboy lifestyle is a great deal cleaned up from what it actually was, this book is still good for teenage girls looking for something with adventure and romance.

A charming historical romance for teenage girls.
It's 1866 in the small town of Faithful, Texas, and sixteen-year-old Samantha Reynolds is desperate. Every since her father died, the family has struggled to keep their farm running. They've fallen into debt, and her older brother, still bitter over the loss of an arm in the Civil War, refuses to find a job to help out the family. Samantha is determined to help her overburdened mother, but the scheme she comes up with is risky. She cuts her hair and disguises herself as a young boy, "Sam," and is hired for a cattle drive. She is put under the responsibility of Matthew Hart, who is supposed to show her the ropes. Like Samantha's brother, Matt fought in the war, and is haunted by his experiences. Samantha finds herself falling in love with Matt, but he thinks she's just a scruffy little boy. When Matt discovers the truth about what Samantha really is, he's furious, but he also finds himself falling in love with her. Can Samantha persuade Matt to keep her secret so she can help her family, and can she convince him not to despise her for her deception? I highly recommend this book, and the other Avon True Romances, to teenagers who enjoy historical romances. This book was a really sweet love story that I truly enjoyed.

AvonTrueRomanceTrue Fan!
Samatha and the Cowboy is my probably my favorite Avon True Romance so far; I've read 9 of the 10 published and ordered the 10 and pre-ordered the 11 and 12.

Samatha Reynolds is an capable and intelligent girl of 16 whose family is in debt like other families after the war. When she sees an add for boys 14 an older to work on a cattle drive, she chops her hair and trades in her dress for a pair of trousers. Matt is an attractive 18 year old with an unreachable heart that was closed during the war after the death of many friends. After Matt hires Sam onto the drive without the permission of Jake the trailboss,Sam becomes Matt's responsibility. The last thing Matt needs is the only person he can't help but like playing his shadow.
As the drive goes along Sam and Matt start to get closer, but after a swimming accident he learns the truth about "Sam." Will Matt reveal Sam's identity to the trail boss? Read this book to find out!!!!

A WONDERFUL READ!
This is the final installment of the Leigh series. It is spectacular! This is the story of Austin Leigh. After spending five years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, he is free once again. Unfortunately, many things have changed. He's lost five years of being with his family, a family that has grown since he left. His reputation has been shattered. But nothing can compare to the pain he feels when he finds out that his love, Becky, has remarried to his best friend, Cameron. Having nothing to look forward to in Leighton, he decides to clear his name by finding the real killer. Along the way, he meets Loree Durant, a woman with her own hurtful past. They are two lost souls that find each other with a great passion. When Loree becomes pregnant, they marry. They soon fall in love and begin a new life together. They struggle to cope with their pasts and fight for their future with their amazing love. "Texas Splendor" also provides us with the return of Houston and Amelia Leigh and Dallas and Cordelia Leigh. Seeing how the Leigh family has grown is amazing. This book is a wonderful end to the popular Leigh series. You'll love it. Trust me!

A beautiful love story
Austin Leigh spent five years in prison for a murder he did not do. After being released in 1887, he returns to his family home in Texas only to find his sweetheart married to his best friend. Worse yet, everyone in the town of Leighton, except for his two siblings, believe that Austin is a killer. For his own peace of mind, Austin decides to seek out the identity of the real killer.

On his quest, Austin meets Loree Durant, who is haunted by her own demons. These two tortured souls form a bond that leads to intimacy. When she becomes pregnant, they marry. They soon fall in love, but Loree knows she must eventually reveal to her beloved the secret she keeps that will surely destroy their chance for a lifetime of happiness.

TEXAS SPLENDOR, the third novel in the deservedly popular "Leigh Sibling series" is a splendid love story filled with angst and scarred characters struggling to cope with their flaws. This book also provides the return of favorite characters from previous novels as major secondary players, who help move the story line forward. Lorraine Heath demonstrates with this novel and her entire series why she is considered one of the best western romance writers on the market today. This poignant series is must reading for sub-genre fans and anyone who takes pleasure with a well written romance.
