The work and play of life.
This spiritual and, in many ways, autobiographical work is an eye-opening, heart-awakening, mind-expanding, and imagination-bending achievement.

The fact of her presence
Some we value for their thinking, others for what they make. But M. C. Richards is that rare one among us who shows us a way by fact of her very presence. All else follows.

Summer Reading
Well, despite only 3 stars, I still liked this book. Now the other review gives an accurate description of what happens in the book, so I won't elaborate farther than to say that most of the drama, (O.J. and Ms. Phipps argument) all occurs in the first couple of chapters, and the rest is Lily on her own. This book was definately a book for teens and younger and is mainly good for reading during hot summer days when there isn't much to do while off from school. The book is full of beach life and the feel of summer holidays and the knowledge that the people at the beach come and go like the ocean's tide. The plot was rather simple, as not a whole lot happens. The focus though is more towards Lily's self discovery and her developing into a more mature person, who knows what she likes and what she wants to do. But the book never really went anywhere, and wasn't very exciting, though it was lush in interesting characters and was an absorbing read. Perfect for students on school break.

Nice Artist
I loved this book. Although it only talked about a little more than a week, there seemed to have a lot to think of.

This book is about a girl called Lily and her father O.J. Her father was invited to make some sea paintings for Ms. Phipps. Unfortunately, after he had done some real paintings, Ms. Phipps didn't like them, but liked a so-called dunb-and-ugly painting. Ms. Phipps was very angry and said that he can only paint until Thursday, which was a week from that day. Another thing is happening, that O.J. was invited to be in an art show with his paintings. Lily and O.J. was discussing a way to solve the problems, and Lily had an idea. She thought that she can stay at the beach, where they lived to make paintings, and fool Ms. Phipps while O.J. was in the show. They did it.

There are also several small stories when O.J. was gone. Those stories seemed to tell you about life, especially the story of the Blakes.

Also, the author illustrated people very well. She had caught the personalities of different people with different careers. That's another good thing about the book.

So, people should really read it. I couldn't put it down until I finished reading it.
