Taffy has never been this terrible...
When Jana Morgan finds a wallet in the girls restroom at school before first period, she doesn't know that it belongs to her 6th grade teacher, Ms. Wiggins. So she puts it in her pocket and deicides to take it to the office; but she's already late for class so she figures she'll have to wait till lunch or something. But once she gets to class, her teacher announces her stolen wallet and Jana realizes that SHE'S holding the stolen wallet! Now she doesn't know whether to turn it in (will she look guilty?) or put it back where she found it and hope the custodian will return it. She and her friends vote for the latter and she's just putting it back after school when who walks in, but Taffy Sinclair! But Taffy wants payment in return for her silence (she thinks Jana really did steal the wallet) and decides to make Jana pretend to be her friend and do her homework. Jana is furious at being blackmailed, but what can she do? She and her friends figure that TAFFY is really the guilty culprit and decide to frame her. But then they find out who really DID steal the wallet. Will they turn in the real 'criminal' or get revenge on Taffy? Meanwhile, Jana is having mixed feelings about her father probably coming to see her after all these years and is also dealing with having a 'boyfriend', Randy Kirwan. This book was really good and had a great moral. This is one you should read!

Taffy's never been this terrible...
It all starts when Jana finds a wallet in the girl's bathroom before school. She puts it in her pocket to take to the office and turn in, but is already late for class, so she decides to wait till recess to do it To her surprise, she discovers that the wallet is her teacher's and that somebody in her class had stolen it! Jana is worried sick b/c she's afraid everyone will think SHE stole it, so she decides to put it back in the bathroom where the custudin can find it. Unfortunately, the horrible Taffy walks in at the crucial moment and thinks Jana's the one who's stolen it. So she decides to blackmail Jana, and Jana becomes her personal slave. Can Jana ever prove her innocence and find out who the theif is? This book also dealt with Jana's father and new boyfriend, Randy. I enjoyed this book, just like all the Taffy ones, and I love to see how Jana matures in each one. Sure she makes mistakes, but don't we all? Mona is a good example of a good friend, and Taffy is lucky to have her. Too bad Taffy is such a brat she doesn't realize it. So if you want to read an EXCITING book with an actual plot, toss the boring BSC books down and pick up one by Betsy Haynes. The FABULOUS FIVE ROCKS!

Little Pet Shop of Horrors
The book I read is called, Little Pet Shop of Horrors. I was very interested in the book by the cover and the text of the book. It was amazing to me in every chapter I read. I would recommed this book to Young Adults & Children also. The book is very good at descriping what, when, and how thing are going on. This book is good for everyone.

This is one of the best books I have ever read!!
I read this book a long time ago when I was visiting my dad in Orleans, Indiana. I rented it from the library and I kept saying to myself, I've got to get this book. I don't remember much about it other than a girl getting turned into a dog, but I know the rest of it is good too. Take my advise and buy this book!!

Bone Chillers Toilet Terror
It was cool how the fish came back as a monster. I really liked this story and would like to read more of them.

This book is very exciting with plenty of frights.
This book starts out slow but it gets going with a bizarre chain of events after the goldfish gets flushed. The events eventually lead up to the incredible ending. This book comes highly recommended.

"Can Melanie Make A Christmas Miracle Happen?"
The Fabulous Five, along with some extra help from their friends, hope to raise $375 in the next two weeks, before Christmas Eve, when 15 older cats and dogs will be euthanized, because there's not enough room at the local animal shelter for them. But will Melanie Edwards and her friends raise enough money in time? And if so, can they find homes for all of the cats and dogs? Because, otherwise, the shelter won't allow the animals to be released.

I liked the moral of this story since I love animals and have rescued a few from the pound. Other young readers (9 - 12) will probably enjoy "The Christmas Countdown" as well, especially if they're animal lovers. This is one of the better books in this series.

Great childrens book with a historical setting
I remember getting this book thru a classroom book order, and now am reading it to my own son. A story about a 14 year old orphan who enlist in the Continental army, only to find out that he is a spy rather than just a minuteman.

Best Book EVER!
I thought the book was really good. At the beginning I didn't really understand where I was, but as it went on I caught up. It was really exciting and suspenseful. When I finished I was amazed the author didnt' go on with it because I wanted more!

The best book from a 4th grader!!
I thought this book was amazing! You never know what will happen next. You just keep reading and reading! I am reading this book in school, and when I am supposed to be reading two chapter I end up reading 3 or 4. The begining goes a little slow with some old english. In The middle you just can't put the book down. Fourth Grade and older would be the only ones to aprrechiate the book. I am in 4th grade and love to read but I can only read great books. I am very picky. "Spies On The Devil's Belt" was great!

Great Murder Mystery!!
My name is Lauren Stewart, for my English class project I chose to read Deadly Deception, by Betsy Haynes. Although I have never read a novel by this author before, I look forward to reading more of her work. The blurb interested me because enjoy to read murder mysteries and Deadly Deception is a great murder mystery. From the beginning Betsy Haynes had me thinking and my many questions were not answered until the very end of the book. I like that becausr if the climax is in the beginning, what is there to look forward to? There are many true-life problems in this novel which makes it 10 times better, ex: drug addictions. The way Betsy Haynes wrote this novel I was on the edge of my seat until the end of this novel.
The novel takes place in a middle class town, nothing exciting. Ashlyn Brennan lives a normal life until obscure events begin to happen. The major event that began to throw her life off track was the killing of a close friend of her's, Mrs.Rothlis, the school guidance counseler. Along the way of Ashlyn's investigation of the murder she discovers information about herself, herboyfriend and her mother that blew her mind. Ashyln's best friends think she needs to slow it down on the investigation because more and more Ashlyn is pushing herself to the limits. Without revealing anymore information about this novel I will leave the rest up to you, read this novel and you will agree with me that it is an "edge of the seat" novel.
Thank you for taking time to read my book review on, Deadly Deception, by Betsy Haynes.

Deathly Deception
The book Deathy Deception is strongly recomened as a must read. If you are looking for a mystery that has strange twist this book is for you. Also If you like to be able to relate to the characters then this is it. Besty Haynes does a great job of making them come to life. The book is about a girl named Ashlyn who is trying to figure out who killed her guidance counsler. The police have one guy who they think did it but the guy is her boyfriend! Ashlyn knows that he didn't do it so, when she starts to look for clues to prove that he didn't do it she finds out a awful family secert.

Very Suspenseful
Deadly Deceptions by Betsy Haynes was an excellent book. It was hard to put down. The main character is Ashlyn Brennan, a seventeen year old senior, who is really close to her school counselor. Everything was going well in Ashlyn's life when suddenlly her school counselor was found dead in her office and the last person schedule to see her was Ashlyn's boyfriend Drew.
All the fingers are pointing at Drew. He is the prime suspect in the crime. Ashlyn doesn't believe that Drew would do something like that. So she starts a investigation of her own. She finds a deadly family secret.
I thought that Deadly Deceptions was a very good book. It has romance, drama, and mystery. It is very well writtnen and it captures the attention of young readers.

Now and Then
I first read this book as a 3rd or 4th grader in a town in the deep south at a time when my (private) school had only recently been integrated over the objections of some families.

I learned so much from Cowslip. Dignity. Weighing wrong vs. right. And not least, that my friends "of color" were people... no wiser nor foolish than I... with the same questions, the same drives, and the same desires.

I admired Cowslip, learned from the book what a ghastly institution slavery was and found a plucky, brave heroine for all of us in the process.

I bought a copy to share with my elementary students.

A wonderful book--I still remember it 20 years later
I read this book when I was 8 years old. I am now 28, and it remains one of the best books that I read during my childhood. I knew very little about slavery before reading this book, and I think reading this book gave me an ability to empathize with Cowslip and the other characters and made me more interested in learning about slavery and the Civil War than I would have been otherwise, because it made slavery seem so real to me, and so horrible. I am buying a used version of this book for my eight-year-old niece in hopes that she will gain as much from it as I did. I already have no doubt that she'll love the storyline, characters, and descriptions.

How Can Anyone Not Understand
This Book...is too cool. It is about a girl that has to learn about wrong, right, the pardonable, and the unforgivable as she struggles to keep hate away from her innocent little heart. It isn't that sad, really. Most slavery books are asking for pity on Black people of the time, but not this one. (Mind you I AM Black). It isn't graphic, but very descriptive. I have the book sitting in my library right now, when I stumbled on this review. I was so surprised that not many people read it. I loved it.

Yearbook Memories (Fabulous Five Super Edition, No. 4)

Interesting memories...
This was more real than most of the others books in this series. I loved the first-person accounts of each of the Fab Five. Neat how Christie actually MET Diana of Windsor. I could imagine dear Diana as she was portrayed...Diana was always so sweet & polite. The memory that captured my attention the most was Beth's. Poor Beth was sometime ridiculed because she's loud, funny, dramatic, & creative. She also has a vivid imagination to think up the basketball costume for the media club's cable show. It's too bad that the other kids didn't appreciate it, even the usually open-minded Funny & Shane. I really felt for Beth when Beth overheard two girls making fun of her in the bathroom & then later kids teased her in a mean way. Beth reminds me of Claudia Kishi & Abby Stevenson from the BSC series. Beth & Katie were my two favorite characters of the series with Christie & Mona (who reminds me of the BSC's Mary Anne Spier) not far behind. I kind of see Dekeisha & Whitney being friends with Christie, Katie, Beth in the future, maybe high school & Jana (who's still glued to her ever-devoted boyfriend Randy) & Melanie drifting away from them. I thought the little signatures were cute; it made the book look like an actual yearbook. Although many of the characters were shallow & boy & appearance-obsessed, there were some good characters in here that I would have like to see developed more in future books, namely Katie Shannon, Beth Barry, Christie Winchell, Dekeisha Adams, Whitey Larkin, Mona Vaughn, Curtis Trowbridge, & Shane Arrington.

One of my favorites of the series
I really love all the fab five books, and this was no exception. I thought it was really cool how they had first-person accounts from each of the fab fivers. I loved how Jana and Taffy made up- everyone is always dissing Jana because she acts immature sometimes, but at least she realizes it and tries to mend her faults. Beth's memory was really good, too, on how she learned it's okay to be your own person. The other memories were fun to read as well, and the yearbook section was SO COOL! I wish these books were still in print so you could read it too.

Good Books Lost
The books in this series were the first real books that I read willingly on my own as a child. It is sad that they are no longer printed and other children will never have them to treasure forever.
