Sensitively Breaking Silence
In 1996, an Associate Professor at the University of Maryland at Baltimore School of Social Work co-founded the International Paruresis Association (IPA). That professor, Steve Soifer, is also a co-author of this book. It is the first monograph on Paruresis or Shy Bladder Syndrome: the inability to urinate in a public restroom or in the presence of others....Classified as a social phobia in DSM-IV-TR (300.23), it is associated with impairment in multiple functional domains: employment, education, and social relationships. This debilitating condition thrives in a climate of shame and secrecy (on the part of paruretics) and ignorance (by health and mental health care providers). This deceptively slim book may help you identify paruresis in yourself, a loved one, or a client/patient. One section helps the reader rule out other conditions (pp.16-18). The brain-body connection is clearly described in Chapter Two, and includes both a diagram of the human urinary system and a chart of the human nervous system. The authors present a ten-step approach for Graduated Exposure Therapy, the treatment of choice at present. Appendices include a literature review, a synopsis of "the evolution of the bathroom and its impact on paruresis", and resources. A seven page bibliography is included. There is no index, and it is hoped that future editions will remedy this. This thoughtful, sensitive book breaks the silence which has hitherto dominated the subject. For that, and for the prospect of relief it holds for over 17 million sufferers, we may all be grateful.

Excellent and Desperately Needed!
As social phobia is finally being recognized by the public and professionals alike as a serious condition, affecting nearly 20 million in the US alone, so is avoidant paruresis - one painful, disabling, and embarrassing manifestation of it. As one who suffered from both for years, I can tell you this book provides you with everything you need to know to overcome this form of performance anxiety.

Starting with what "bashful bladder syndrome" is, it takes the reader through its causes, different treatment approaches, what to expect from the medical community, and how to gain support from family, intimates, and friends. It has one chapter on the application of the Americans with Disabilities Act to mandatory drug testing and another on the evolution of the bathroom and its effect on avoidant paruresis which makes for fascinating reading.

This breakthrough book gives hope to people worldwide who live restricted lives because of this debilitating human affliction. It is essential reading for medical and mental health professionals, sufferers, and their family and friends!

No more suffering alone
This book is the most comprehensive guide to the suffering paruretic. It defines and provides a self test to determaine your level of severity. It relates numerous stories and experiences that you can identify with. The President of The International Paruresis Association, Steven Soifer speaks of his own suffering and eventual triumph. Some of the topics include How Paruretics Cope-Isolation and Avoidance and The Causes of Blashful Bladder Syndrome: Unravelling the Mystery. It also outlines the working of the urinary system. It offers methods of self treatment through Graduated Exposure Therapy and addresses the topic of The Medical Community and Paruresis. Have you ever thought about telling others?. Why not start your own group?. This book will show you how step-by-step. Need to tell a friend or loved one. This book can help. Each page is clearly written is easy to understand terms and is finished with a summarization of each chapter. All you ever wanted and needed to know is found in this book written by four of the leading Avoidant Paruresis research specialists. This book is the first step to treating and conquiring your Paruresis. Don't suffer alone anymore. Begin the road to recovery.

A Gem of a book
I picked up George Roof's book on a lark at the local bookstore here in Dover Delaware and I am glad I did. It is a superbly written book by one of Delaware's own. George manages to weave a tapestry of his love for the outdoors, hunting and conservation under one cover. He sprinkles in quotes by Aldo Leopold and Teddy Roosevelt while taking the reader through a journey of some of his greatest hunts. For George, it is not about the kill but about being outdoors with great friends on a magical quest to hunt some of North America's biggest game. Clearly for him life is large and George has tried to get as much of it as he can before he departs this planet. I should be so lucky.

If you love the outdoors, hunting and conservation then you will love this book. When I started, I could not put it down.
Be forewarned, Cat-head Biscuits & Squirrel Stew will bring back memories of your youth. The real magic of this book is his ability to connect with the reader and then the reader connecting with all their past experiences in the "Big Outside".
Trust me, George is one of those guys that you would like to have on a fishing trip, drinking a few brews and hearing some great tales. He obviously would make a great hunting companion.

George this Bud is for you. Thanks!

I hope I meet you one day!

Happy Hunting

Tim O'Connor

Excellent use of details truly brings these stories to life.
This is a great book, a "must read" for anyone, and everyone. I couldn't put it down, once I started it!
This author is a superb writer, who describes the characters so vividly, that I felt like I got to know the people, as I read about them in the book. I nearly cried when I read of Mr. Walker's death, after I had grown to appreciate him, as I read the "Wild Hogs" story.
George Roof is certainly a master of "painting pictures with words". His excellent use of details, truly brings these stories to life. I felt like I was right there, seeing, and feeling, the action first hand, as he described situations and events. The suspense in the stories, gained momentum with each page I turned. Often, I laughed out loud, and at other times, I fought back the tears.
Any book by George Roof, is now on the top of my "must read list". I highly recommend this book to anyone

Mr. Roof, a literary Casanova
This book takes you away! With every word, you are drawn deeper into the life and antics of this fine story teller, and regale in his emotions. I went away feeling as though I literally LIVED the authors childhood, hunting experiences, fears, dreams, and sentiments. I was ON that porch with Mrs. Walker as she was summoned with needle and thread to doctor a hunting dogs mishap, as she revealed her hard life with only the look in her eyes. I could feel the nights air on my skin sitting on the bridge fishing, I was walking the path back to the house after the excitement of the "unexpected" catch in the darkness! I could go on and on with the wonderments of this stimulating collection of Mr. Roofs hunting stories, and it's definitely one of those books you'll read more than once. I absolutely loved it!!

This is the best of the best
Anyone who would like to put a few animals in the backyard for eggs or meat or milk or everything altogether, will save hundreds of headaches, and probably hundreds of dollars, by buying this book and taking Steven Thomas's suggestions seriously. There are now dozens of these kinds of books out there, and I own a number of them (including "Barnyard In Your Backyard" which is nowhere near as good as this) but none of them comes close to "Backyard Livestock" for practicality of advice, conciseness of expression, and comprehensiveness. I have sheep, chicken, etc., and this has been far more reliable than any competing manuals that I own or know of. You can't not get it! It's indispensable.

Great Starter Book!
To get information easily and quickly, this book is concise and informative. We bought this book when we first started our little farm and 10 years later are still referring to it! An excellent buy.

Great resource book!
This book was very beneficial in all aspects of raising small-farm animals. Great reference manual for beginners. I certainly listed this book in the resources directory of my new title, Farm Animals: Your Guide to Raising Livestock, because I felt it would be an awesome addition to my own farm related books!

The first book in Kierkegaard's remarkable Authorship
Although Kierkegaard had written other books before this one, mainly some literary critical works as well as his dissertation THE CONCEPT OF IRONY, this is the book that begins what he calls his "Authorship." The works constituting his Authorship have two main things in common: 1) they are all written by Pseudonymous Authors that represent points of view that do not precisely correspond with Kierkegaard's beliefs and 2) they are intent on delineating what Kierkegaard called the three stages of existence: the aesthetic, the ethical, and religious stages.

Of all the great philosophical writers, Kierkegaard was one of the greatest masters of literary form. In each work, he adapts a style and form that is appropriate to the particular point of view he is attempting to illustrate. In EITHER/OR I, he is concerned with showing various aspects of the Aesthetic Stage of Existence. Unlike the later stages of existence, the Aesthetic is extremely diverse, and can take more forms and be expressed in a larger number of shapes. Kierkegaard therefore writes a series of essays that bring out various aspects of the Aesthetic stage. Some of these are among his most famous writings. His essay on Mozart's DON GIOVANNI, "The Immediate Erotic Stages or The Musical-Erotic" ranks among the most famous pieces of musical criticism ever written. Perhaps even more famous is "The Seducer's Diary," in which an individual records his attempts to snare a young woman, though more in the sense of a Mephistopheles than a Don Juan. My favorite section, and the one that illustrates an especially developed form of the aesthetic is "The Rotation of Crops," in which our anonymous author attempts to deal with the one great difficulty facing the Aesthetic Mode of Existence: boredom. As he writes, "Boredom is the root of all evil." Therefore, the challenge to the Aesthetic is to thrust away continually boredom, and in this essay our writer provides a guide to making life as interesting as possible. We are required to continually find new friends, new jobs, new interests, since all obligations lead to tedium. Marriage is, of course, to be avoided, since this is boring (the contrary to this will be asserted in EITHER/OR II). That this task is impossible is taken up in later works by Kierkegaard.

EITHER/OR begins in classic Kierkegaardian fashion. Kierkegaard was probably the greatest master of the Preface in the history of literature. His Prefaces are such masterpieces that they can profitably be read on their own, and he himself delighted in writing them to such a degree that he wrote one book that consisted in nothing but Prefaces. In the one to both volumes of EITHER/OR, a gentleman by the name of Victor Eremita explains how he accidentally discovered the papers filling the two volumes that had been hidden in a desk. He separates them into two groups, "A" and "B". He possesses no great certainty as to the authorship, but believes that one person may have written the first group, and another the second group. Or, alternately, that the author of the "A" papers may have written the "B" papers later in life. The latter is probably what Kierkegaard wants us to believe, for it is his fundamental belief that the Aesthetic mode of existence is doomed to failure, and that it is possible (though not necessary) that this could lead to a higher level of existence, The Ethical. This new stage is dealt with in the second volume of EITHER/OR.

Seriously, this is not a serious book!
You will have the most fun reading the first book of Either/Or. The book is actually the master fisherman's best hook -much like Socrates was a midwife of thoughts- to bring you out into reflection of the question at hand: Either the esthetic or the ethical life. This book and the second part is this elaborate question concerning two opposing ways of life. This first book is ironically and seductively entertaining. He deals with various subjects like Mozart, Drama, unhappiness, Boredom and finallly the seduction of young girl. If anything else, read the last two portions of the book. One of the things that I like about the way K writes is his ability to use words from other disciplines and to incorporate them into his language so beautifully that reading him is literally an excursion.

this is the key to emotional realization
Kierkegaard's brilliance lies in his ability to take such deeply personal experiences--love, lust, sorrow--and comment universally in a way that is at least unmatched in philosphy and probably in all of literature. He understands life in a way that seems obvious but is in actual fact merely fundamental to all of us. The book is a collection of papers and texts on a variety of subjects that at first seem disconnected but in the end all tie perfectly together with the truly brilliant "seducer's diary". Philosophy is a literary discipline that generally provokes either intimidation or a feeling of pointlessness (by this I mean that people wonder why should I care what someone else thinks if it is all unprovable anyway). I feel that Kierkegaard represents everything that is good about philosphy and is worth an attempt at least even if one is trepedatious. This book will not overwhelm you in complex language or termanology, rather it will leave you invigorated with fresh ideas and new questions about everything around. Everyone should read this book.

The Bankers Life
This is a book that should be read by all young bankers. The is a great example of how banking plays a real role in the modern world. Moore highlight the depression and that the best is yet to come.

As a banker, I found that this book can be used as a tool in the day to day of any banker, wanting to be one step ahead of the rest.

a wild ride at citibank
george moore had a fascinating career at the firm now known as citibank. starting before the depression, the chronicle of his career is a snapshot of banking over the past century.

from the lessons of the depression, to rediscovering lending to companies, from creating a consumer lending business to the idea of foreign branches spanning the principal trade routes, moore was there. he hired and retained talented individuals who helped him raise the citibank banner from an also ran in the world of banking to the premier global franchise it was at his retirement.

as his successor, moore named walt wriston to lead the bank forward. he excelled in a ceo's principal job, to pick the right person for the company to not just succeed but to thrive.

Civility Rules!
I was most impressed by the tone of the book. I expected a "stuffy" list of do's and don'ts only to find each of George Washington's rules of civility applied to today's social and business situations with great insight and a touch of humor. I was amazed to learn that the civil behavior we learned from our parents and teachers is based on the same rules of civility that George Washington lived by 250 years ago. Some things are truly timeless. We could all use a refresher course. I highly recommend By George!

We can still learn a lesson By George!
By George! is a delightful and insightful compilation of George Washington's rules of civility, written when he was only 14 years old. The author does an outstanding job of adapting these basic rules of good conduct, written in the 1740's, to current society. These rules, illustrated by timely stories of people doing the right thing, not only help us understand the high standards George Washington expected of himself and others, they are a timeless treasure trove. In a world torn apart by violence and hatred, this little book teaches us that a little civility can make a big difference in our lives. I highly recommend By George! by Steven M. Selzer.

Warning- this is NOT the book-it's a study guide.
This is a great study guide for the hardcover book. It contains numerous maps, questions, and vocabulary lists, BUT do not order this if you think you've found a much cheaper version of the hardcover-that is not the case.

A Good Book
BY RIGHT OF CONQUEST is a great book. It tells the story of a boy who is shipwrecked on a island where the people think he is a god. When Cortez comes to fight the people of the islands the boy is caught in the fray. This story is a great book full of excitment like in the middle of battles or running away in a boat. Even a point where the boy must escape from being sacrificed. This is a wonderful book which I encourage many to read.

It works if you put it into practice.
This is a fantastic book with clear and easy to apply principles. I've read the book and only just started to apply the secrets, I have started to see results already. I've closed more contracts in the last two months than I closed in the six months prior. My collegues have noticed the positive energy I emit and I've received positive results from just using what has been written. Just buy the book and use it. It really works. Too many times people read a book such as this or go to a seminar but they never apply what they learn. If you try it, it will work.

Combine this with Tapes for the Best Results
I have not yet read this book, but I have attended Lynea's workshop and have once again begun listening to the tapes (which include all the information found in the book) on a daily basis, and I must say, that combined with guided visualization and WORK - it is one of the most effective tools I have found to keep me on track in both my business and personal life! ..... And it WORKS!

Outstanding Practitioner's Guide
This is one of the nmost readable treatments of the subect of EPSS I've come across. Designed as a practitioner's guide, it also provides an introduction for business executives and decision-makers to orient them to what EPSS can, and cannot be expected to accomplish.

All fundamental technologies of EPSS are describe in plain English, followed by implications for instructional designers and performance technologists who will be defining functionality, information architecture, navigational and interface designs and assessment of applications. Sample code and design templates, along with over 3-dozen planning and implementation job-aids, and a side-by-side comparison of development tools and technologies make this an invaluable addition to one's library.
