An excellent resource
This book is packed with information on men's health. It covers everything from diet and exercise, through men's maladies (prostate, bladder and problems of the genitals). It covers everything in an easy-to-understand manner that includes many charts and diagrams. In particular I appreciated the section on exercise and stretching, and have revamped my exercise regimen based on this book. I am glad I got this book, and recommend it to all men.

A Must Have for Men!
My husband I found this book to be very informative. The material was presented in a lucid and engaging fashion. We found the chapters on diet, exercise, and prostate especially helpful.

A Helpful Guide to Men's Health
I got the book to restore peace to my health club workouts. As my friends have turned 50, many have been asking "Dr. Joel" about prostate cancer. I'd be glad to answer, but it's not exactly my end of the body, since I'm a dentist. I read the two chapters on prostate cancer, but then I went back to read the rest of the book. I don't want to be an instant expert, but I now have a quick answer to all of the questions: read The Harvard Medical School Guide to Men's Health for yourself. It's really an excellent book.

A Second Legacy

Not like Joanna Trollope's other books
I just found this dissapointing. But then I am a big fan of Joanna Trollope writting as herself. This book was just to lite for me. A romance, a family story, but without the zing that her other books have that makes them something more than just a fun read.

Vicarious Travel and A Generational Saga
A generational study of following one's heart, beginning with the mother coming of age in the 60s and the daughter in the 80s. With very different perspectives and the usual mother/daughter drama, this is a very richly readable book that reminds me a lot of Pilcher and Binchy. The dialogue is a little muted, but this is intellectual (as in "use your imagination") non-bodice ripper kind of romance. An amazing weaving into a very enjoyable book that will take the reader from the Cornish Coast, to swinging London, to Scotland and ... then on to Afghanistan. The timing of this book makes the story all the more interesting in light of current events.

There is another generational novel entitled LEGACY OF LOVE which, if you are a more orderly person than I, you may wish to read first. Apparently that book leads up to this one, though I have to say this one stood quite well on its own. I do intend to read the earlier book, for I truly enjoyed this author.

Well worth the time to read this excellent book

London swings like a pendulum in the sixties, but Alexa Langley feels more like a fish out of water. Unlike her successful parents who thrive in the mod climate, Alexa feels shy and unworthy. Everyone concludes that Alexa is a classic underachiever who could do better. Even in marriage she fails though betrayal by her spouse is a more apt description. Alexa finally flees London with her infant Carly for a family owned Scottish castle that has been neglected for years. Will Alexa find the inner strength that flows in the blood of her female ancestors or is she the skipped generation?

In 1988, Carly finds an extraordinary journal that describes the adventures of her great great grandmother in Afghanistan (see A LEGACY OF LOVE). Unable to resist, Carly retraces the steps of her ancestor while not knowing what she seeks or what she will find as she treks across the war-scared landscape.

A SECOND LEGACY is actually two novellas in one book. Caroline Harvey, better known as Joanna Trollope, (both names appear on the title page - duh) provides her audience with the tales of two women. The story lines are similar yet quite different. Alexa's tale is a character study of someone struggling to find contentment and her self worth. Carly's plot centers on finding a place in the world too, but is more of a romantic suspense drama. Still each story engages the reader who feel empathy towards the heroines and shows why this writer is a highly regarded best selling author.

my review
This book deals with the stories of three generations of women and their love stories. First comes Charlotte and her love for adventure takes her to India and Afghanistan in the middle of the 19th Century and British Rule. Next comes Alexandra, Charlotte's grandchild, and how she finally finds herself and true love. Last comes Cara who is faced with an incredible burden during the second world war.

All three stories are very well written. The people and places are very well depicted and interesting, you cannot help but fall in love with the heroines and feel their struggle. All situations dealing with historical facts (Afghanistan, World War
II), though ficticious, are faithful and seem very life-like.

I enjoyed reading this book very much and was moved by every account. Very good writing and great reading.

Great historical drama
"Charlotte". In the 1840's, a bored Charlotte Brent marries military officer Hugh Connell to escape the ennui of Victorian England. They journey to Afghanistan where she falls in love with the philandering but dashing Alexander Bewick before the fall of Kabul.

"Alexandra". Around the turn of the century, Charlotte's granddaughter, a dispirited Alexandra, wants to draw. However to do so in peace, she must escape from her rancorous mother Iskandara. When the opportunity to care for her great-aunt Emily, Charlotte's sister, arises, Alex leaps for it. There she meets two men, one being a bit older and a more mature person. The other, a fellow artist encourages Alex to be all she can be, but to someone who does not like herself, he seems as selfish as her mother and as exciting as her grandfather.

"Cara". World War II intercedes on the life of Charlotte's great-granddaughter, Clara. Her existence seems dismal until she meets two men who claim they want her. Will she choose the older mature man or the selfish, exciting person more her age?

LEGACY OF LOVE is a well-written historical work of fiction that showcases a century of English history. The three novellas share a common theme of spirited females trapped into boredom buy society and events needing to choose between two suitors, a boring but loyal individual vs. an exciting but immature person. Each tale accomplishes what it sets out to do with world events impacting people and their choices. Although the world stage takes a backdrop to the romances, fans of historical novellas will relish the latest works from Joanna Trollope writing as Caroline Harvey.

Good Book, but slow.
The Wave is a book about how adolescents can be influenced into doing the wrong thing just to be accepted. This book is enjoyable, easy-to-read story. Since it was a true story, it was intriguing to see how this group of teenagers got influenced by a teacher who made them follow nazi-like orders. As you read the first couple of pages, you realize how disrupting this whole idea was. It keeps you hooked right from the start because the plot is extremely unpredictable. Even though the book was about to end, it was not possible to know for sure what was going to happen. Overall, this is a good novel that is fun and exciting to read. Throughout this novel there were things that our group didn't like. The idea of The Wave was a hard concept to digest and we think that the author should have expanded more on the idea of something drastic could spread out in a normal high school. We believe that the author didn't write enough about the characters for the readers to get acquainted with them from the start. If we knew more about them, it would be easier for us to relate to them and actually begin to experience what they were feeling. We also felt like the book was slow at times, and then too fast at others. It got slow because the characters would repeat themselves often. Since the plot was progressing too quickly, the author didn't have enough time to be narrative about the surroundings. In conclusion, we would recommend this book to anybody because it was a good book that was interesting and shocking even though it was a bit slow at times.

A chilling classroom "experiment" with relevance for today!
I am a Language Arts teacher in Mission, Texas and my students read "The Wave" as their classroom novel for the last six weeks of school. My students, like those in Palo Alto, California had difficulty understanding how one person (Hitler) could have carried out the Holocaust with no cries of protest from the German people. We had many discussions on the power of peer pressure - for good and for evil. I would recommend this book highly to any age reader, especially to middle and high school age students. The message of "The Wave" is a powerful one and of great relevance to all students and educators.

A must-read about consequenses of group pressure.
Can you imagine recreating a leader like Hitler and a group that followed him like the Nazis? Well, this book does. The Wave is based on a true occurance in Palo Alto, California in a High School History Class. This book is about a classroom experiment that goes too far. Mr. Ross is a High School teacher that teaches a group of students that form "The Wave". When most of the school gets caught up in "The Wave", two students realize it has gone too far. But can they stop it before it's too late? I thought The Wave was a very good book and really made you think if something like this would ever really happen again. I give The Wave 5 stars.
