Art Glass Nouveau - A Treat for the Eyes
Art Glass Nouveau was written by a husband and wife team, Lee and Ray Glover. They have photographed museum quality glass art from the late 1800's - 1930. This is the time period art lovers call Art Nouveau - or the new art.

The pictures are breathtakingly gorgeous, in full color. The text is outstanding in that it not only gives information about the artist (included are the most famous) but tells some of the details of how the glass was formed.

After reading this beautiful book I feel much more knowledgeable about how these treasures were created, yet no less in awe of their creator. I wonder how and from what heavenly body these artists came from.

If antique dealors knew of this book, they would certainly be clawing to get at it! Too bad it is out of print! Actually it has been brought back once already, in 1975.

It is a delight to view, it is abundant in information, and is well written.

Very helpful for all fabric work w/ very good illustrations
This book is a very good guide to all sorts of transfer methods on fabric for any kind of fabric work. It is very user friendly because the wording is clear and concise with very good full color examples that go along with the text. Troubleshooting hints are included with each method as well a lot of other useful hints. The examples and pictures of the actual work are very helpful in that they show many different applications of each technique and really help to get you thinking of ways to be able to further play with and modify the methods shown. Also, it is very clearly laid out into categories per chapter that make it very easy to use as a quick reference. A reference chart is included in the book telling the basic overview of each technique with information concerning the permanence of the method, fabric types recommended for each method, as well as many other useful info that really make this book very easy to use and covers the basics of most any kind of transfer method you could need. I originally had to buy this book for a fibers class I was taking but it has been more helpful after the class ended because it really was a very easy to use by being very easy to quickly reference with it's clear layout and detailed description of all of the advantages and disadvantages of each of the methods clearly labeled. It is a very good book and would recommend it to anyone interested in any kind of quilt or fabric work.

Imagery on Fabric
After seeing the demonstration today on the Carol Duval Show on HGTV, I am definitely ordering this book! What intersting ideas for quilting fabric! Loved it!

Fiber Artist's Bible
From high tech computer photo transfer to the ancient art of leaf hammering, this book is a comprehensive presentation of fabric manipulation and imagery. Avoiding the "cutesy" trap of so many crafts books, this volume is sophisticated and will be useful to artists and crafters of many styles and sensibilities.

Imagery on Fabric is smartly organized by method, rather than individual project, allowing for much more creativity from the reader. Each process is thoroughly explained and accompanied by fabulous photos of work by professional fiber artists as well as hobbyists. Laury also includes a useful list of resources for the various products and equipment that she discusses in her book.

When I bought this book I was just fiddling with fabric and art quilts. Laury and her book singlehandedly motivated me to fully embrace fiber arts as an exciting means of artistic expression.

Excellent photos on how to tie knots!
One of the best books I've found on knots. More comprehensive than a small manual but not as overwhelming as Ashley. PLUS, the photographs on how to tie the knots are the best I've found anywhere.

Excellent manual for knotting
The excellent photographies of the knots leading from one step to the next are the best didactical material I have found since my boy scout days nearly half a century ago.
A welcome addition for the classical scholar is the section on "Knots in History and in Folklore". Now I know that the hitch I used to strap a bottle to my belt is over two millennia old, and the knot I used most with the scouts and firefighters has its own meaning in old Roman matrimonial ceremonies.
I strongly recommend this book, especially because of its reasonable price, to the beginner and advanced student

beautiful projects, check for measurement errors in book
This book has the most attractive furniture I have seen in any how-to books. However, when I created a garden bench (the back slats of this particular bench are cut to create a diamond shape of open space between the upper two slats and lower two slats) I found errors in the layout, (drawings and measurements) of the center rail. Either the rail must be cut lower, or the mortises must be moved. My bench turned out beautifully despite the required modifications. I will make other furniture from patterns in this book, but I will definitely check the layout measurements before I mark and cut--rather than assume they are correct!

Beautiful photos accompany complete plans & material lists
A beginner could enjoy the pictures but would not yet own the requisite tools for all of the projects. Completed projects rival area high-end specialty gardening stores. Contains materials lists, recommended woods and finishes, and easy-to-understand drawings. A pleasure to own.

Draw 50 Endangered Animals/the Step-By-Step Way to Draw Humpback Whales, Giant Pandas, Gorillas, and More Friends We May Lose...

Frustration lies in the details
I have enjoyed a number of Ames's step-by-step drawing books and was excited to find this one. However, I was somewhat disappointed in it. Here's why. Whereas Ames's other books show completed pictures very much like what I could produce by simply following the steps, in this book, the final results are invariably much more polished with shading and shadowing. That's not a problem in itself, except that Ames provides no instruction or steps which show how to accomplish those additional details. Thus, my frustration. I want my final results to resemble Ames's as closely as possible, but I'm not told how to achieve this. Otherwise, the basic steps are, as always, useful and easy. Just don't expect to learn the details here, even though they are shown in the final picture.
