Call Down the Stars
Sue Harrison's work is not only about storytellers, but also by a storyteller. Her plots are engrossing and the reader can get lost in the emotion of the events.
CALL DOWN THE STARS is not only a wonderful stand-alone book, but a perfect culmination of all her books. In more recent times than her first trilogy, the storytellers in CALL DOWN THE STARS use the old characters from all the books as part of their history and continue to tell new additions to these people's lives while their own stories unfold.
I highly recommend this, and all of Ms. Harrison's books to anyone looking for something new or in this genre.

A fascinating glimpse into an ancient way of life
Sue Harrison is one of the best storytellers out there today-- which she proves in the completion of the storyteller saga. She manages to do by creating intriguing characters who are also storytellers, and manages to make a novel with two parallel plots weave together perfectly.

Harrison makes the way of life for the ancient people of Alaska come alive, in all its hardships and joys. She creates complex and differing characters, from K'os, the villain who thinks only of herself in a place and time where cooperation was a necessity to survival, to Daughter, who is gentle and helpful, even to her adoptive mother K'os. This is definitely a novel worth reading.

An excellent book that is hard to put down! :-)
I absolutely loved this book and all the other sequels! Sue Harrison made reading it an adventure, and you actually felt like you were there with the characters. It had a great plot that thickened as each book went by. I felt like I was actually a member of the town by the last page! The love story between Kiin and Qakan gave it a romantic twist! It also made me appreciate the way of life I have. Some other good authors are Sue Harrison, Linda Lay Shuler, and Lucia St.Clair Robson. :-)

Well Worth Reading
This trilogy by Sue Harrison kept me glued in my chair for days! Her books move more quickly than Jean Auel's, and each book has a plot. They are more than sagas. What a wonderful way to learn about prehistoric peoples and their culture! I'm so glad to have found this author.

This book was wonderful....!!!!
I loved this book. Unfortunately, I jumped right into the middle of the trilogy. A friend gave me this book as a gift and ,I, not knowing this was part of a trilogy began...

The book was wonderful..I will definitely get both "Mother Earth, Father Sky"-Vol.1 and "Brother Wind"-Vol.3.. I can wait to be a part of Kiin and Samiq's life again.. the story draws you in. Mrs. Harrison really knows how to make you feel like you are right there among the First Men. I will also make sure to get the Storyteller Trilogy as well.. !!!!

You Can Lose Yourself In This Book
I didn't realize that this was the second book in a trilogy when I started it (My fault. It was clearly stated on the front of the book). That may be why I found the numerous characters a bit confusing at first. But there is a list of characters and the villages they come from at the back of the book and that was a big help. I also appreciated the glossary of plants and herbs that were mentioned in the story. Despite the fact that I was unfamiliar with these characters and their past history with each other, the story was easy to follow. I found the details of life in primitive times, in the wilds of Alaska, mesmerizing. The suspense of what was going to happen to these characters kept me turning pages well into the wee hours. It isn't often that I find a book that so involves me, that the rest of the world just disappears for awhile. This is one of those books.

Ms Harrison continues to hold your attention
As with the previous books I have read by this author, she has the ability to keep your attention and spin out an interesting tale and leave you waiting for her next publication.

Harrison continues to write top notch material
As with the other books by this author that I have read, she continues to spell bind and "spin" a good yarn. She has the ability to make you feel as if your in the story looking on.

I now know why I didn't like the stories
I have just finished the trilogy. It wasn't until the end of the last book that I realized that I was waiting for something good to happen. In each of the books, I kept thinking, "what else could go wrong?" and "how much worse can it get?". Well in each case we found out! I kept looking for the magic and warmth and happiness that came out in Jean Auel's and Linda Lay Shuler's books. The stories were good, but they were emotionally depressing. The end was not bad, but it was very predictable for the most part. I hate to sound so harsh, because the stories were good. Perhaps if I had known this ahead of time, I would have enjoyed them more. I would recommend these books to a friend, along with what I have just said. When Sue's Storyteller trilogy is finished, I will read them too. I will apply pessimistic optimism: "Expect the worst and hope for the best!"

A Trilogy not to be missed...
I started reading Sue Harrison with her novel She who Remembers, her writing style kept me on the look out for more of her books. Mother Earth Father Sky; My Sister the Moon; Brother Wind: The trilogy does leave you wanting for more with the interest in what happens next, this makes me hope that she will continue the story with at least 2 more books. There are so many opportunities and challenges for a writer to continue in this fashion. Will Sue hear the cries of the people and continue this saga. I as an avid reader do hope so. I do suggest that the reader starts with the first book and move the trilogy in that fashion. I started with My Sister the Moon and then moved on to Mother Earth Father Sky ;Brother Wind not by choice but by accident. Regardless I really enjoyed this book, and I recommend any and all of Sue Harrison's books to those who are interested in Native American tales or who love a great story.

Anxiously awaiting the next book
A couple of years ago, I bought a book called Mother Earth, Father Sky by Sue Harrison. Ever since then, I've found myself searching for the next book to come from Sue Harrison. Each book of hers that I've read so far has been so good I never wanted to put it down! Brother Wind is such an awesome story. I certainly hope Sue isn't going to leave it a trilogy. I want to know what happens next! What happens to the Whale Hunter village, the twins- how do they grow together-, the Seal Hunters-how do they find a new way to provide food for themselves? I loved this book. It was full of suspense and love. I would recommend any and all of Sue Harrison's books to those who are interested in Native Amercan tales or who love a great story.

A wonderful book of conflict and triump.
this book was absolutley amazing. Sue harrison is a wonderful writer. The characters come to life in her novels. Her books are so vivid. I could imagine myself in that time period. can not wait to find out what happens in the next book Cry Of THe Wind.

Can't wait until book 3.
Phenomenal! I've become so involved with the characters that they almost become a part of me as I'm reading Harrison's books. I read the first trilogy two times -- the first time I've ever reread anything. Each of Sue Harrison's books ends too soon. What a great escape for me! The storytelling is incredibly vivid and I have learned so much about these ancient people. Could anyone recommend a writer of Sue Harrison's caliber that writes about prehistoric cultures? Please email me.

excellent!
I enjoyed this book and reommend it to anyone who wants a good, solid, engrossing story. Sue Harrison has done meticulous research to write this tale of 6th century B.C .Alaskan human relationships and lifestyles. As an archaeologist I usually pick up similar books with great trepidation since they are all too often written from a modern viewpoint and are filled with 20th century motives, passionate love, predictable plots, etcetera (I recall one whose heroine jumped "onto mat"---no beds in those times---with every warrior she met). "Song of the River", however, gives us believable characters, situations, and conflict resolutions for the time period and locale. In addition, the reader learns about what the technology, belief systems, economy and social structure may have been in prehistoric Alaska. A good book to curl up with and learn from.

Sue Harrison captivates a time almost forgotten.
Thanks to an incredible author,Sue Harrison,I found myself thinking about this book's characters and adventures even after I'd read into the next book. Her books are masterfully researched and the life of Chagak has the reader enduring her pain, her happiness and love, and her ability to never give up. Sue allows you walk in the characters shoes and you can believe you're right there with them. Two Thumbs Up to a fantastic author!

Touches your soul...
I first read this book about 5 or more years ago, and everytime I talk to people about reading, I recommed it.. I have NEVER read a more touching story and the way Sue Harrison describes the surroundings, the people and their feelings is just impressive!! If you want to read a "One of a Kind" book, this is it...I am 100% sure that you are gonna love it as much as I do. I still keep this book and I'm about to read the following stories and someday my now 20 month old baby, will read them as well....Enjoy them!

WOW!
Hey, I am 13 years old, and I really got into this book! I never was all that interested in ancient peoples (fiction of course) and I picked up this book because I was bored out of my mind, to tell the truth. I am a major fan of Brian Jacques, and I never thought I would actually like this book. I loved this book for a lot of reasons and I would definatly read it again. In the beginning, Chagak loses her entire famiy, including her future husband. She is the only one to survive, and of course her baby brother Pup. Pup soon dies, and Chagak is left alone. She then makes friends with the carver Shugannan and she lives on his island. A lot happens after that but I wont give it away. I really reccomend this book and I am sure that anyone to read it will enjoy it and want to keep on reading the following books. Sue Harrison, I applaud you and all of your great books, including all of the others, not just this one!

BOR-RING!
This book is not at all what I expected or I had hoped for. Most of the poetry is free verse and idiomatic with little narrative and almost no backdrop or landscape verse. Although written by native Michigan authors, some of the stories have nothing at all to do with Michigan. One in particular is about a diving experience in the gulf of Mexico off Florida. This story is badly written, unbelievable, and reads like a cheeesey ghost story told at a summer camp.

I was born in Michigan and raised in California. I could write volumes of prose and poetry about the Golden State. I know next to nothing about the Wolverine State (Michigan). I was hoping this book and others like it would give me a taste of what I missed. After reading this book for a while, I can honestly say I have not missed much. (And I thought Delaware was boring!)

What a gift from these finest new Michigan authors!
This book (Vol. 1) was one that I enjoyed thoroughly. It's been a long time since I've been able to say that. I even took the book to my mother's home in Virginia where she read the book and enjoyed it tremendously. It's a must-read book for all of those interested in reading the wonderful works of talented authors from the "Winter Wonderland"! Thanks to MackinacJane's Publishing Company for making this wonderful book available to all. Happy reading!

Great Book. Authentic fresh voices from midwestern hearts.
I loved this anthology. It rekindles one's faith in the small american press house. Mike Nagrant's Poem Intimacy was one of my favorites.
