New: Supplement Five ¿The Virtual School House¿
In this new supplement, the authors have identified four essential educational components that educators must process when addressing the issues of using technology within the educational setting. These emerging issues of cyber standards include (a) developing a compressive, site-based technology plan that focuses on the improvement of student learning (b) developing policies for cyber security that protects the school from potential liability and student endangerment (c) developing appropriate and factual communication strategies that support positive marketing of the school mission to the public and (d) how teachers can engage the use of technology for improving the teaching and learning process.

Creating Effective Schools through Policy Development
Public schools are now discovering that they cannot prepare students to succeed in tomorrow's world unless they reinvent themselves today. The schools that will thrive in the future are those schools that embrace reform and take control over their own destinies. In many cases throughout the nation, today's schools are not in control of their own destinies because of the loss of local control and the inability to initiate an open agenda for public engagement in the school renewal process. Despite this, policy makers (state agencies and legislators) continue to establish mandates for holding educators accountable for student improvement. Designed in non-collaborative environments, these mandates are based on high-end accountability policies that regulate school reform. However, rarely are these reform mandates based upon the wisdom of school effectiveness research. Additionally, the local school communities are not consulted about how the new regulations will influence the education of their particular school populations. Five years ago, during the course of our crystal ball gazing, we missed several important concepts when developing this manual. We did not recognize that policy development would have such an influence on school reform measures, nor did we fully understand the extent to which effective schools research could have on the impact of policy development. To support communities in building stronger schools and regaining ownership, this manual provides a guide for supporting effective school practices through polices and programs based upon effective school research.

A definite detailed, informative and hands on resource .
The authors are very detailed and descriptive with the information needed to administer the daily task of leading an effective and successful school. It is a definite hands on resource that you will want to keep handy and review and use daily. The authors are very knowledgeable and have studied all angles of organizational procedures and implemented suggestions for different sites that may be modified to adjust to your situation. It is a book that a new principal would find quite useful in setting up a building that would run successfully from day one and effectively limit major crisis from ill thought out planning. The chapter on safety is, in this time of major concern, a vital guide to helping protect a school from later regrets of irresponsible behavior to the safety and concern of all within its confinds. I as an administrator of an elementary school found it very useful and highly recommend it to others as a very useful guide and resource to keep on hand when reviewing or changing procedures within your building.

Useful and entertaining...
This book is really useful, as it provides an easy reference to Harrison Ford's films and allows the reader to find the ones that are worth watching.

Besides the blurbs of reviews and general information on the movies, however, this book is made really interesting (and at times really funny too) because of the stories about the production experience for each of the movies that it includes as well. Seriously, it is hard to imagine, when viewing the finished products, the disasterous, strange, and hysterical events that occurred during the making of some of the films.

So, if you are a fan of Harrison Ford or are just a big movie fan who is especially interested in behind-the-scenes type information, this book is highly recommended. If you don't care for either of the above things, why are you looking here anyhow?

It was really, really informative!
This was one of THE best HF books I have read! (It's one of the ONLY ones!) Even if you hate HF you would like this book! It has many off-screen photos. It has SO many pictures! The only thing I can say is, READ IT!!!!!!

for health care professionals and the public
This book gives a straightforward overview of the history of fetal surgery and the rationale for fetal surgery. The real reason to buy it, though, is for the beautiful intraoperative photographs. I would recommend it for anyone with an interest in the subject, independent of his/her background.

Epic tale, epic storytelling
I can't believe this book's out of print! It's still in libraries, though, I think. This is THE book to read if you love Viking myth (like me!). The rich flavour of the story is here, and good tale-spinning, and amazing artwork. The book should actually be for older readers, because I don't think children would grasp the concept in this old saga of love and blood and tragedy. A tale born of rage and wound with coiled bands of mysticism. This is the only retelling I've encountered which measures up to the grandness of the story. Beautiful wording and beautiful pictures.

Great Book, Great Legends
I remember over 10 years ago when I pulled this brand new shiny book from my elementary school library and was mesmerized by the incredible life-like illustrations. It introduced me into the world of the Norse mythology. At the time everything that was taught to us was all Greek mythology. It wasn't until I opened this book that I learned how wonderous and deep Norse mythology was.

This books follows the humorous, yet tragic life of a very interesting god named Loki, and how he came to be with Aesir and how his mischevious ways always got them into trouble but he would always get them out of it again with his quick wits. Then it will tell how Loki tragically grows evil and ultimately become the enemy of the gods.

This is a great book for those who love adventure and fantasy. From these tales many can see how more modern stories get their ideas....such as Lord of the Rings.

Gripping mystery
We often enjoy living vicariously through other characters in books, and being able to solve mysteries is one of the top experiences. Simon and Charley, enemies to begin with, team together to find out who killed Charley's father, especially when Simon's father is suspected. This book keeps a quick pace and provides some suspense. The characters are believable, and the language is delicious!

Powerful, earthen tones
In a stunning edition limited to only 500 copies, Frank Paul Sauerwein is the result of a collaborative effort by Michael R. Grauer (Rio Grande Trust), Elaine Maher Harrison (Rio Grande Press), and Steve Holmes (Burro Alley) and provides the reader with a vividly enhanced biography and analysis of Frank Paul Sauerwein, a master painter of the American Southwest who lived from 1871-1910. Sauerwein's brief life, brilliant career, and untimely death are explored in this extensive study of his work, which also showcases his memorable artworks in full color. The powerful, earthen tones and Sauerwein's human and realistic portrayal of Native American subjects in his art mark this limited edition volume as an unforgettable biography and a strongly recommended addition to American Art History reference collections.

comprehensive coverage of the basics
Like many in the Lecture Notes series this book provides comprehensive coverage of the subject. The important syndromes and most of the undergraduate syllabus are dealt with in a clear and straight forward manner making this as good a text for a first look as for last minute revision. More interested readers will find it a good launch pad for more in-depth studies. I recommend it to undergraduate medics as a book that should get you through finals with room to spare.

User-friendly Guidebook
This Eyewitness Handbook on whales, dolphins, and porpoises was extremely valuable during my recent trip to Baja Mexico to whale watch in the Sea of Cortez. The book provides a wealth of information on each species with specific descriptions and illustrations that are right on. We had two naturalists on board and they love the book too, so it's worthwhile no matter what your level of cetacean knowledge.

Wow! Incredible book!
This is a great book if you want just a field guide with information on the different species of cetaceans. This would be a great book to take "whale watching".

The Ultimate Cetacean Field Guide!
This book clearly deserves more than five stars for the great joy it will make available to you in the future by encouraging you to do more cetacean watching.

One of my pleasures is planning and taking trips to the various whale, dolphin, and porpoise rich areas in the world. When there, I spend as much time as possible on the water enjoying the views. I was particularly delighted to see that this book opens the doors to locales that I did not know about. As a result, I now have three times as many places to visit as I thought I did. Having seen the unusual species that I have missed, I now see the world much differently. That's a great gift to receive from a field guide.

Most people are unaware of the fascinating and beautiful mammal life in the oceans and rivers (yes, some dolphins live in rivers) around them. Although I live near one of the world's best cetacean watching areas, I would estimate that fewer than five percent of the people I meet have ever gone to observe the wonderful sights that are just a few minutes offshore. This guide can help change all that.

With a heightened sense of our aquatic co-species, I think that all people will have more respect for them and interest in preserving their habitats and populations.

Many people have a chance to go boating on the ocean, and see something that interests them. What is it? How should they approach it? I hope that all ocean-going boaters will buy a copy of this book to address those questions.

This is a beautiful book to hold and behold. The drawings are luscious in their subtlety of color and shape.

As a way to identify cetaceans, I cannot imagine a handbook that could be any better. The book is filled with dozens of clues for each type from length, shape, coloration, presence of typical parasites, behavior, breathing patterns, and other physical characteristics (like the shape of the teeth or baleen, blowholes, tails, heads, etc.). With so many observational points to consider, it would be very unusual to make a mistake. So the casual cetacean watcher can quickly be able to perform like an expert.

After you have finished enjoying this wonderful book, I suggest that you plan your next trip to watch cetaceans. If possible, I suggest going to some location that you have never been to before. Even if formal party boats are not available there, you can go out in the least expensive way and rely on your handbook to guide you into a better understanding of what you are seeing.

Appreciate the natural grandeur and beauty of the cetaceans . . . always!
