A ripple of hopes.
RFK was a great man like his brother, if you want to know a little bit about him, read it. There a few rare photos. For a more complete biography buy RFK and his time or the Fitzgeralds and the Kennedys.

Excellent book about RFK!
This is the perfect book if you want to know a little bit about RFK! There are some rare photos, but not enough. The texts are quite complete but if you want to seriously study the subject buy Schlesinger's "Robert Kennedy and his time".

EXCELLENT INTRODUCTION TO A GOOD MAN
Robert Kennedy was my very first hero as a child. One of my fondest memories was watching the then Senator on the evening news and my mother telling me that "Senator [Robert] Kennedy is a man who cares about people. That's why we voted for him." I believed that fully.

This is a book I would have LOVED as a child. This is a book I respect as an adult. I feel it gives young readers a good overview of the Senator's life and character and makes him somebody they can relate to. We follow the progress of little Bobby, 8 and 10 years younger than brothers Jack and Joe respectively determined to keep up with them. We smile at the small boy who was so determined to teach himself to swim that he flung himself into the ocean at age 4. Some 35 years later, we see that same little boy, now a Senator, determined to climb a previously unscaled mountain in Canada. He was a man who suffered from acrophobia, but he tabled his terror and climbed that mountain out of love for his brother.

Robert Kennedy is a hard worker and his life is a litany of hard won successes. He had to live with people comparing him to his brother Jack, who was elected president in 1960. He had to contend with the feeling that he was still trying to keep up with Jack. It is only in the tragic aftermath of Jack's death does the full adult face of Robert Kennedy emerge -- the man who had previously worked behind the scenes promoting his brother becomes a KNOWN force to be taken seriously. He is the man who in addition to pursuing teamsters and mafiosi ("bad guys who break the law") finds his own voice, his own interests and his own identity beyond the shadow of his brother. He is the man who, in the last half decade of his life became the voice for many. He was better than a great man. Robert Kennedy was a good man.

That same caring side is brought out on issues concerning minorities, poverty and civil rights. The man who would be president in 1968 comes across as serious and sincere in his efforts. As we track him on the campaign trail in 1968, we are left with the painful question of what the intervening years would have been had he lived to win that presidential election.

READ THIS AND START PLAYING AGAIN. THERE IS HOPE!
After a year of computer/instrument tendonitis, I FINALLY found this book, which really gave a lot of good, CURRENT information. Better yet, I made the pilgrimage to see Dr. Paull in Stouffville, Ontario. It was worth the 10-hour drive. She gave me a lot of important information that contradicted a lot of misinformation given to me by well-intentioned doctors, chiropractors, massage therapists, acupuncturists, pharmacists, etc. who seem to just perpetuate the status quo of repetitive strain injuries and rehabilitation without really researching new information about them. Read this book, consult Dr. Paull and start playing again. Christine Harrison, the musician who co-wrote the book, had a musician's horror story to tell and she is now playing professionally again after a FIVE YEAR UNNECESSARY hiatus. The book also has excellent information regarding stretches, posture, excercises and anatomy. READ THIS BOOK AND GET THE INFORMATION YOU NEED TO START PLAYING AGAIN! I did. I guarantee you can, too, if you follow Dr. Paull and Christine Harrison's advice. Good luck.

P.S. Doing hand strengthing excercises to get better? STOP NOW. You are probably hurting yourself. The only thing you should use to strengthen your hands is your instrument.

An indispensible book for every musician
Every musician who wants to avoid a playing injury or is recovering from such an injury should own this book. This is not a read-once book but a book to use and refer to until one has it memorized. It gives easy-to-follow instructions for safe warming up, exercises and stretches to do at home and even some for doing on stage, ways to avoid injury and means to stay healthy when one has recovered. The psycological and social aspects which confront injured musicians are sensitively dealt with in "The Athletic Musician". The title already tells us that this is a relevant approach to treating the subject of musician's health. Read it, it could save your career!

an astonishing book
I loved this book. I have loved all of her books. I started by reading "An Accidental Autobiography" I was hooked. I would read her writing every day if I could. This book takes you on a journey through her eyes. Everything she looks at is written about beautifully, like a poem. Strange, unusual circumstances are often written about, This woman knows how to amaze readers. She is so smart, witty, warm. I am now reading "Off Center" I think that I am resigned to reading every precious word that she writes.

One of my favorite books
I found this book quite by accident while doing research for an upcoming trip to Italy. This was only one of many books I looked at and I didn't expect it to be anything more than a resource. Instead, it turned out to be one of the most beautiful and satisfying books I've ever read.

I really cannot say enough in praise of Barbara G. Harrison's writing. She tells anecdotes, expresses odd thoughts, describes scenarios, but the impact of her words goes far beyond a simple travelogue. Never mind the excellent photography featured in this book; Harrison's writing is reason enough to seek out this book.

Meditative, thought-provoking, occasionally disturbing, and at times quite challenging, The Islands of Italy isn't simply a book about Italy.

It's so much more...

A luminous movie
This work is like encountering a strange film which, after a while seems not to be a film at all but an experience you are having, a kind of a journey that you don't remember setting out on. It takes you through England, Bali, Cambodia, Italy, through time, through light. In the end, as with all good journeys, you are someplace else and you are a little different, though in ways you can't describe. That's what is so great about this book; it takes you someplace in a way that lies outside summation.

Helpful in limiting amount of notes that need to be taken
This series of books is very helpful and full of information that the huge textbooks have but very condensed. Great to make additional notes in the margins that the textbook deems is necessary information to acquire.

So many authors in one place!
If you are interested in reading many successful authors' thoughts on the power of story and reading, this book is a must. The essays in this collection are inspiring, diverse, and unified in their passion for writing and storytelling. I found myself returning to passages over and over, savoring the passions for children's literature that are similar to my own. A stellar collection of authors are presented including Susan Cooper, Madeleine L'Engle, Maurice Sendak and many more that appear on most required reading lists. (They are listed entirely in the professional reviews above.) This is a great book for librarians, teachers, students, and anyone who loves one or all of the many authors represented.

Storyline ....
Since Amazon didn't post an editorial review, here's the description from the back of the book to help you decide if this book is for you: "RHINELANDER CENTER, part of the huge medical complex known as Rhinelander Pavillion, was a world unto itself. Situated in the heart of the big city, its long, stark corridors were constanting pulsating with critical medical emergencies ... DR. PATRICK DAIN, Chief of Staff and top administrator, had to meet the constantly growing needs ob his patients and staff. But what about his own desires and the needs of his new wife -- would their marriage survive ... MATT LANSING, a brilliant, ambitious young surgeon, was so obsessed with building a "perfect record" in order to be named the new Chief of Surgical Services that he betrayed his Hippocratic Oath -- and now an epidemic threatended the hospital's existence ... ANN O'HARA DAIN would never have married Patrick if she still had feelings for her ex-husband. But when he unexpectedly walked back into her life she was forced to make an earth-shattering decision -- would her new-found happiness be destroyed?"

Evocative, Compelling, Familiar
Barbara Grizzuti Harrison writes of her life as Jehovah's Witness during the 1950's. One would hope in almost 50 years that the beliefs, prejudices, and controlling aspects of the religion would have changed during this time. As a former Jehovah's Witness who was involved in the sect up until 1995 I can attest that this is not the case.

Grizzuti Harrison writes in such a way as to provide a window into the religion for those who have never been involved in it, and a mirror for those, like myself, who spent much of their lives within the faith. I recommend this book wholeheartedly as a research tool, and for those people whose family members have become, or are thinking of becoming involved with the organization known as the Jehovah's Witnesses. It is also a healing tool for those who have left, a reaffirmation of the presence of sanity after leaving a dysfunctional religion.

Thank to all readers for reading Italian literature
Thank to all the readers for having read an Italian book, and above all one of the best authors on this century in Italy. When I was a teenager I read mots of Morante's books and I can say that she was one of the best writers I have ever met in my readings. May I suggest to all of you to read (if you find a transaltion in your language) "L'isola di Arturo" (Arthur's Island) and above all "Menzogna e sortilegio" (Lie and witchcraft). Sorry, but the translations of the titles are improvised and I am not sure they are correct at all!

History made personal
If you really want to know what war does to ordinary people read this book. It is a superb, beautiful, deeply sad, uncompromising, uplifting masterpiece. With fascism on the move again across Europe, this work of art will convince you, if you ever needed convincing, that such evil should never be allowed to pass this way again

Magnifico!
I CONSUMED this novel over fifteen years ago and re-read it recently. I had forgotten what a wonderfully funny, scary, sensitive story it is.

Elsa Morante is truly one of the best writers of the 20th Century. She is able to express the anguish and the glory of "her" little man. Indeed, regardless of what happens in our lives, the events that may seem catastrophic, happiness is still all around us, we just have to fight for it. This is the lesson that Elsa Morante wants us to take away.

How do we achive this? Read "History" and discover the secret...
