I didn't expect to be so impressed!
This book is sneaky. I started reading it only so I could glean enough to write a convincing thank you note to the person who had given it to me... then I got hooked by the terribly funny writing; I couldn't put it down, and eventually I got curious enough to try some of the amusing movements--and was so impressed by how "authentic" they felt that I went back and read the introduction... and now here I am two weeks later ordering three (!!!) more copies to give as gifts. You never would have convinced me that I'd be so impressed with an "exercise" book. I guess the key is that these aren't exercises. They're a series of fun, simple movements that are more about making you aware of your physical self (your posture, your muscles, your balance) as you move through your usual day. They are designed specifically to be done during your normal daily activities--so you don't need to make special time, or sit there with the book open in front of you trying to read/do/understand at the same time... I found within a very short while of playing with some of these new ways to do familiar things that my body was developing an awareness, and I was automatically straightening my posture and engaging my muscles without having to think about it. It's such simple stuff: half the things we do everyday are routine, and we drudge our way through them, reinforcing all the same poor muscle habits. I no longer slouch over my sink twice a day with my shoulders hunched and my back straining and my tummy slumping out; I now squat slightly, with my pelvis tilted and tummy tucked while my abs and ... get a gentle workout. I'm not wasting time at the gym, and I'm getting my face washed at the same time! That's just one example. Busybody Exercises is full of stuff like that--just little changes, that amount to a big one. I'm so completely thrilled I was given this book, and I highly recommend it to anyone. (By the way, all the exercises, even the seemingly outrageous or silly ones, are grounded in very sound knowledge--the author (Ricky Harris') credentials are impressive, and both the forward and the introduction are intelligently and insightfully written.

A Joyful and Unique Exercise Book!
Ricky Harris has put together a joyful, unique and highly motivating exercise book sure to put a smile on your face while whittling away those pounds! From the bold easy to read text chock full of up to date information to the beautifully whimsical illustrations created by Juan Ezcurdia this book appeals to both the head and heart.
"Busybody Exercises for Bodies Too Busy to Exercise" is directed toward those who intellectually recognize the value of regular exercise but need a helping hand in making it a reality in their lives (aren't we all there at some point?!) Ricky Harris, who is truly a gifted motivator, has accomplished this in her latest book through the very unique approach of accessibility and JOY.
Having attended several of Ricky Harris's workshops I can say first hand that the creativity, joy and encouragement that flow out of these pages come straight from her heart. Get ready to have some fun!

One of the best exercise books I've ever read!
This is a wonderful book! These are exercises anyone can do and are so much fun! Also, the illustrations are so cute! I highly recommend this book!

a modest book with an incredible depth of artistic content!
This book has been around for a while but nothing can hold a candle to the depth of artistic and technical content that Ricky Harris has given us in this "must have" book! Her expertise and technical insight is a real gift to us all, the chapters on" Design in Space and Time", "Movements from Gestures" as well as "Warming Up" & "The Ice Barre" show such artistic evaluation and implimentation.Since She runs a dance studio her chapter on "Why Dance?" is especially relevant and the photos of her students certainly validate that she is a Master Teacher in her field. Actually I am surprised that her book is not more widely known and used in the skating field. I teach an on/off ice course for figure skaters and am always recommending this book to both skaters and coaches for its clarity, accuracy, and wisdom..."be humble; ask for help if you need it. One little word from someone may cause that light to switch on", and one I always harp on "A Stretch is NOT a Warm up!"
