Beyond 5 Stars!
This book has all there is for the novice and experienced
investors ... . It has all the information relevant to the world of investments, mutual funds, stocks, bonds, indices ....
All presented in as simple way as possible to the man in the street. Yet in it's own way I would think even the expert money
managers will hate to give this book a miss!

Everyone planning to retire should read this book
I was surprised how quick paced and understandable this book is to read. Investment strategies can be very dry. But this book is a fast read and I learned a lot from the author.

I have never been able to stay in the market when it got rough. But this book showed me why I need to stay in, even when all the bad news tells me to get out. More important, I learned that if I use a wide allocation of funds, I will actually have less risk. This was a real eye opener for me.

I am very grateful the author took the time to write this book. It will change my entire approach to investing. Now maybe I will actually achieve my objectives. Thanks

Investment Alchemy
A must read for anyone wanting to know what investing is all about.

Perfect Book for the Novice
I'm considering setting up as a childrens entertainer, so I purchased a good few books. This is without doubt the best of the bunch.

The book covers lots of aspects of clowning, gives great ideas, and is an easy read.

The only downside is that it does not have space to go as in depth in some areas as I would of liked - but there are plenty of speciality books to do so.

If you are a serious clown...er...wait a second
Every hobby has one or two definative books. This is it for clowning. Everything I wanted to find out and more. Like any good reference book it started me down the path and I have read several books recommended.

If you are going to get into clowning you need this book.

An inspiring book indeed!
Having read four customer reviews of this book, I might have had high expectations. Maybe I didn't realize it's true value at first, but after learning various skills, you may want to try others, which didn't catch your interest at first. Then you realize how powerful a tool this book is.

Until now I've focused on juggling and unicycling. The book not only teaches you how to ride a unicycle, -it also provides a lot of amusing variations. Though I knew how to ride before buying this book, it taught me how to ride in a very ridiculous way, seemingly out of control. I've experienced a tremendous effect when acting upon these hints in front of an audience. ...

Just recently I grew interested in the stiltwalking sections and made a pair of wooden tie-on stilts. I'm not exactly an engineer, but following the instructions, all I needed was a saw, some wood, a drill, some glue, some bolts and screws.

Reading the ingenious instructions given sometimes make me laugh out loud, thinking of how it would work in real life. The illustrations are really amusing, and I do enjoy all the hints on starting a clowning business. Lots of detailed information.

Also, the book is packed with numerous jokes and material that can be used for shows. The next stage for me will be learning how to twist balloons into different animal shapes.

I was actually looking for a book on how to put on clowns' make-up for my unicycling. This book is all you need to know about various types of make-up for various clown types, plus so much more. If you're thinking about clowning, either for fun or for money, I highly recommend this book!

Beautifully illustrated
The photos in this book are gorgeous. There's some sublime shots of stalagmite/stalagtite formations in the Devil's Womb, and a stunning two page montage of an iron ore skein in Deep Green Cave. There's also photos of the wildlife you get in the caves - bats, crabs and blind moles, and a couple of cracking shots of some chutney ferrets down in the darkest recesses of Kak Canyon. I *love* this book.

COLORADO CAVES: HIDDEN WORLDS BENEATH THE PEAKS
A most enjoyable and informative read, for the "professional" caver, the new spelunker, or the armchair sort (me!) who's just curious about caving!

Beautiful pictures!

I read the entire book in a day and it was time well spent!

Well suited for the tourist or spelunker
In Colorado Caves: Hidden Worlds Beneath The Peaks, Richard Rhinehart examines the exploration, history, science, and conservation of Colorado's fabulous caves. The informative and engaging text is profusely illustrated with the outstanding color photography of David Harris, and includes some b/w historical photographs as well. Well suited for the tourist or spelunker, there are listings of Colorado caves that can be visited by the general public. Whether an armchair traveler or a dedicated cave exploration enthusiast, Colorado Caves is very highly recommended reading!

Arboriculture: Integrated Management of Landscape Trees, Shrubs, and Vines

Overflowing with information
Arboriculture is a science and art that is made up of many different contributing factors. This book does a very good job of covering them all. Any one of the chapters could be expanded into a book in itself. This thoroughly researched and written book is for the person who wants all of their information in one place. It is a textbook for the technically minded arborist, tree surgeon, tree farmer, or hobbyist. Don't look for this book to be entertaining or philosophical. Instead, buy this book for the knowledge held within. There is a lot to be learned from it. Every single page is filled with facts, figures, methods, and recommendations. You will find yourself reading every page a second or third time in order to catch it all. I refer back to this book on a regular basis, because there is no way I can remember it all. If you have any questions about the management of trees or shrubs, you will likely find it in this book.

The Book
Harris wrote the first edition of this book when trees were "trimmed" by the same people who patched asphalt and repaired park benches. It was a breath of rationality in a field that relied mostly on anecdotal information.

The new edition reinforces this work as the compendium of current thinking about how to care for trees. Clark and Matheny build eloquently on Harris's solid foundation.

The public participates actively in caring for trees and demands to know information found in this book. Why not plant the biggest caliper tree you can find? Can't you do something about the tree roots "breaking" up my sewer? Open the book and show them the brief but definitive answer that is easily found here.

I wish more citizen tree advocates would read this book. For that matter, I wish more arborists would too.

A Cognitive Psychology of Mass Communication

A must for any mass communication scholar
This is one of the best texts on the effects, either real or imagined, of mass communication on its consumers. Texts on research can be hard to get through. However, Richard Jackson Harris takes years of scholarly writings from the classic "Bobo Doll Study" to the latest in mass communication research and provides the reader with one of the most objective, comprehensive, witty and easy-to-read texts this subject.

For any mass communication scholar or practitioner, this is an absolute must read. I have written several research papers throughout college and graduate school, and this book was an indespensible tool. If communication is your thing, get it now!

Discovering Arizona the Easy Way
Rick Harris's book "Discover Arizona" is by far the "easiest" way to do just that. I first began using this book as a weekend "thrill" reference 9 years ago. My husband and I loved finding places off the beaten track. This book led us directly to some of the most exciting places Arizona has to offer. He is very clear in his directions, his caution signs, and even reminded us several times of the the specific laws of the land. No matter where we happened to be going in the state, we could plan in minutes, what special extras we could find, wether it be ghost towns, Indian ruins, or crystal beds. We would also know how long it would take us to get there, what time of year was best to visit, and what kind of vehicle was required if any. At one time I even wrote a letter to Rick Harris to get some additional information on one of his places called "Huens Ruins". He wrote me back a hand written letter with the same sense of humor and a hand drawn map giving me the additional information I requested. We have since purchased his second book and are continuing to explore Arizona in all of it's beauty and intrigue. We do however miss the large map of Arizona with the references showing each site and it's number as was on the back of the first issue. If you love to explore. If you love to find relics, and want to truly appreciate the incredible beauty of Arizona, buy this book, and some good hiking boots!-You'll be very glad you did both!

My friends and I have spent many days exploring the seldom seen sides of Arizona and have seen many things that most travelers will never dream of. I carry this book with me whenever I'm in Arizona because you never know when the fever for a good adventure will hit.

Sappy sweet, but nice
This book is sappy sweet, but given the fact that it is a holiday tale you can excuse that. It tells the story of a young man returning home temporarily from a sucessful career on Wall Street, to set up his grandfather's business that was left to him when his grandfather died. As a christmas wish his grandmother asks him to find out who "Lillian" is after she finds the name in his grandfather's journal. The story is mostly predictable, the kid decides small town life is better than big city, etc. However, the identity of Lillian did catch me off-guard. The book is short and sweet and well worth the read to put you in the holiday spirit.

A very positive and heartwarming holiday tale for all
This book is excellent. The author has put together an intriguing and well-written Christmas story that has a wonderful and touching ending. I would recommend this book as a must read this holiday season.

The most touching book of the year!
This is a fantastic book. I cried at the end. It isn't often a book can move me to tears such as this. It made me think and reflect on who I am as a person. And for all that, it's a great story as well. This is THE Christmas book to read. I can't say enough good things about this book. It doesn't take long to read and yet it's worth every minute you spend reading this book. Do yourself a favor and buy the book.

The Complete Tales of Uncle Remus

Not bad, but
This book is a good collection of Harris, Uncle Remus tales. Some of the posters have gone into the history of these tales, so no need to repeat that here. However, these tales are best taken in small doses, as Chandler's "Negro dialect" (as it was known at the time) is a bit much on the eyes of the modern reader (I'm an African-American from South Carolina myself and I had a lot of trouble trying to decipher some of this). But the illustrations are quite fitting and wonderful. So if you have a lot of patience and love some good stories, go for it.

The best folktales.
These animal stories were banned in the late sixties from many schools and libraries for being racist (the storyteller in the book, Uncle Remus, is a slave and uses the "n" word). But it seems that it's now ok to like these stories again, and a good thing that is, because they are not only hilariously funny, they are also deeply revealing of the foibles of us humans. But perhaps most importantly, they are a treasure trove of African American folklore.

The stories combine folktale motifs brought from Africa by slaves with those of the native peoples of the south, particularly the Cherokee and Choctaw. Since both cultures had stories with animal characters, and specifically trickster rabbit characters, ethnologists have not been able to completely determine which elements are the African and which are the Native American. No matter, since the two cultural traditions blend together seamlessly.

This edition is the most encyclopedic of all the Uncle Remus collections, and contains many different types of tales. There are origin tales, like how Mr. Dog originally came to live with Mr. Man and why Mr. Cricket has elbows on his legs. There are satirical tales, like the one in which Brer Rabbit convinces Brer Fox that it's the fashion in town for up-to-date foxes to have their heads cut off, which is information that Brer Fox, out of vanity, acts on in the way Brer Rabbit hopes. There are Trickster tales --mostly involving Brer Rabbit and Brer Tortoise (who is the only character who can out-trickster Rabbit). And there are tales of witches, magic, and superstition specific to Africa.

It's written in Southern African-American dialect of the 19th century, which can be tough going for some, but there is a glossary in the back (which I didn't realize was there for over a year) that helps. Also, the stories demand to be read out loud, being originally of an oral tradition, and I think you will find that reading them aloud while just following the given spelling will make the dialect more understandable than just reading it silently.

These stories are so wonderful that my teenaged sons, who think it's "babyish" to be read to, will still allow me to read Brer Rabbit tales to them. If you are looking for great Literature that's funny and easy to read, buy this book and have a really good time!

Yep
This is one of the best books ever written anywhere by anyone. Personally, I place it among the Taoist classics. Be that as it may, if you don't read it you'll never know what you're missing. If you're looking for crazy wisdom, it's all in here, but don't overlook the ridiculous either because this book will probably put you in stitches, and I ain't just whistlin' Dixie.
