The 'business' of 'show business' explained
One thing that isn't taught that much at film schools is how many contracts are generated and how much time you spend negotiating deals. Our first film is still in post-production (April 2003) and we already have a filing cabinet filled with contracts and paperwork. I wish this book had been available when we started production. The chapter on delivery requirements alone is worth every penny. In it you'll find out what a distributor will want along with your film. Don't forget the still photographer on the set and behind the scenes! Great and easy read, too.

Bravo!
The Independent Film Producer's Survival Guide is the most practical and concrete text on the Hollywood deal-making process that I have read to date. Its succinct presentation of the independent film business-legal process is welcome. Many of the real-world examples of independent producers struggling to secure the deal are thought provoking and encouraging. I believe that any independent film producer who reads and applies the information contained in the Survival Guide can only win. Film schools should seriously consider adding this publication to their list of reference texts.

If you are a filmmaker you MUST buy this book!!!
This book not only lays down everything you need to make and sell an independent film but even provides you with the forms and contracts to do it with! It is a very easy read and the experience these authors have in unsurpassed in the film industry so listen to what they have to say!

The Amazing Adventure in Tovia

My grandkids loved it!
This book speaks to what children love ... adventures they wish they could have. The author must have written the book for my grandchildren, for they didn't want to stop reading. Maybe they could imagine themselves as the main characters: ordinary kids who were confronted by weird beings and strange happenings, in a land unlike anything on our earth, facing adult-sized problems with kid-inspired ingenuity. As a grandparent, I appreciated the good values displayed and learned, like building a better sibling relationship and trust in friends. The grandkids ... they delighted in vicariously living a rousing adventure!

Amazingly brilliant and a wonder to read!
The Amazing Adventure in Tovia will keep you captivated from page 1 to 151. I loved the book and was amazed by the level of the characters. From the outstanding dogs to the evil Dreadlins I was hooked to the end. This book is one of a kind and I garentee you will love it. Now i'm trying to get my friends to read it. Josh,13

exciting!
I'm 11 years old. The reason i liked this book so much is that it is very humerous, but it also keeps you turning the pages all through the night. If your the kind of person that loves adventure then this is the book for you!

Next best thing to going there
Charles Calhoun's MAINE is a departure from most travel guides. Rather than just pages and pages of lists of motels, restaurants, and things to see, Calhoun focuses on the state's people (past and present), natural history, and state-of-mind. Instead of simply an address and phone number for the famous L. L. Bean's (outdoor outfitters, for example, Calhoun gives us several pages, including the story of the founder of the company.

The book opens with a chapter entitled "Learning Maine" and is organized geographically into nine main sections which cover the entire state. The final chapter, "Practical Information" gives all the usual, plus "A Dozen Fun Places to Eat" and antiquarian booksellers. Scattered throughout the book are literary excerpts and topical essays by authors such as May Sarton, John McPhee, and Longfellow. There are maps, reproductions of period art, and plenty of gorgeous color photos. Whether the reader is planning a trip to Maine or merely wishes an intriguing armchair journey, this guide is a must.

Interesting/Informative/Beautiful Pictures
An excellent book to take along with you during your travels to Maine. The photos in this book are simply beautiful! The photographer, Thomas Mark Szelog actually lives in the lighthouse on the cover!! I was lucky enough to meet him and he was kind enough to show me some of his photgraphs. Absolutely beautiful work. This is a great book and I highly recommend it when you travel down east!

Dario Figg and the Phantom of Murk

This is an adventure with a twist!
The story turns upside-down, with a normal boy like yours and mine finding himself befriending oddball characters and fleeing from goblins and ghouls. Our kids found themselves enmeshed in an imaginative plot filled with both dark and funny characters, wondering how Dario would get out of ... or into ... his next escapade. That it keeps a youngster reading avidly while it creatively depicts the battle between evil and good is what a parent likes. That it is an intriguing, engrossing story is what the kids liked! Best for older pre-teens.

Dario Figg Rocks
This book is cool. I especially like the dog. It also has an annoying sister, so that's realistic. The monsters are cool, too. This is the second book I've read by Mark Harris and I can't wait for the next one. My friends always want to borrow these books when I'm done.

A Wonderful Review of Christian Spirituality
This book was such an uplifting work. Christians of all denominations, and non-Christians too, will find this to be a spiritually rewarding work. It caused me to honestly reflect on so many issues, and made me realize that the struggles we sometimes face are not necessarily unique - or unconquerable. The book is well written, sometimes laugh-out-loud funny (i.e., "peanut head") and very honest. The author shares himself without aires or the "holier than thou" pretenses that sometimes accompany religious writings. It was definately worth the purchase, and I'm happy to have stumbled upon it.

I was on the cover when I was 16!! Great pre-teen book!
This was my very first book cover 10 years ago. Today the book roles are reversed. I'm the single parent not the kid! I still love to go to the library to see the book on the shelf and my 6 yr old loves when I read him "Mommy's Book". Mark is a wonderful author and he did a beautiful job. This is a wholesome, genuine, down to earth great pre-teen book. A must for all aspiring young actors/actresses.

It couldn't be simpler
Environmentally sound living is not only easy, but it actually saves you money! One quote shows how supplying yourself with organic fertilizer year around reduces your contribution to the waste problem:

Amount of trash thrown out by average person annually: 1,500 pounds.

Amount of trash thrown out by person who composts: 375 pounds.

Last book of the greatest baseball series
Although Mark Harris' Henry Wiggen baseball books were written many years ago (starting in the early 50's with "The Southpaw" and "Bang the Drum Slowly," and finishing in the 70's with "It Looked Like For Ever") these are great books that are timeless.

In some ways, "For Ever" is the best of the lot, because it deals with time and aging and how we deal with that. Henry becomes even bigger and more real as he grows fallible. I remain touched to this day.

Great Book! Loved the charts!
This book is the most informative book I have seen on the subject of the dinosaur. It is written in a most readible style. The author clearly has studied his Bible and compares Scripture to Scripture to explain the time-frame best fitted for the dinosaur and why God created him. A Great Book!
