Common sense approach to discipline
This book spells out a lot of what most parents probably instinctively know and refines areas where there needs to be improvement. Loved the section that discussed how children control parents. Great step-by-step book to helping children take responsibility for their own behavior. Good section on dealing with children that fall under a special category(low self-esteem, shy, sensitive) and need a system emphasizing positive reinforcement. A very re-enforcing, empowering and validating book for parents and caretakers. A++++, two thumbs up!

Excellent
What a great text ! Here is a deep yet clearly/visually presented text on physical training. I've read a number of
strength-training books, but most are dominated by the
body-building mentality. This book will make you think
like a coach and help you understand sport-specific
training.

The best strength training text written
As a Track and field coach with regional responabilities in the United Kingdom I am constantly scouring literature to gain a better understanding of the theories of strength training and conditioning in general. I have found, without doubt, the best single reference for strength training in this book.

The contributors to the book are all clearly not only academicly qualified to speak upon the subject but also have many years of practical experience to add weight to their thoughts. The book covers all aspects of conditioning from physiology through training aspects including weight lifting, spotting techniques, plyometrics, planning and nutrition amongst many others.

My only criticism of the text would be that those not versed in physiology to a quite high level may find the text quite difficult. It is also easier for some concepts to be understood if you have a degree of practical experience. But these are minor complaints.

I would reccomend this book to any coach or strength professional who wishes to increase their knowledge. In fact any athletic professional that wishes to provide the best service to their charges should purchase and read this outstanding text.

Great text on science & practice of strength training
This book, one of the best references on strength training today, is used by the prestigious National Strength and Conditioning Association as part of its Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification program. While the book is oriented toward high school, college, and professional athletic coaches, the information will be of interest to anyone serious about strength training. Although the book also covers general conditioning, the real emphasis is developing athletic strength and power.

Despite some of the content being technical, the book is quite easy to read. The contributors took obvious pains to make this well organized text both clear and precise, and each chapter ends with a list of key terms, study questions, practical problems, and references. The exercises in the book are well illustrated and include meticulous step-by-step instructions for proper execution. The book also contains considerable material on exercise and gym safety, which is one of its strengths.

If you want solid information that is based on research, not just speculative theory or personal experience, this book is an excellent source. As a supplement to this "Essentials" text, I would recommend "Designing Resistance Training Programs" by Fleck and Kraemer. If you are interested in Olympic weightlifting or using the Olympic lifts to develop power "The Weightlifting Encyclopedia" by Arthur Drechsler is an interesting book, although it can seem somewhat rambling and needs the attention of a good copy editor.

great help to resident
As a resident, I frequently prepared journal clubs, where we have to carefully discuss and scrutinize studies. I gained some introduction from "Appleton and Lange's Review of Epidemiology and Biostatistics for the USMLE". But preparing for journal clubs was quite different. There are many of statistical and epidemiological terminology in each article, some I am familiar with, but others are confusing and new. In this very helpful "dictionary" I was able to find more than 95% of the terms with brief definition and good short explanation that successfully allowed me to soundly evaluate the studies and prepare an impressive brief, neat handouts. The great thing about this dictionary was its well organization and ease to find what you are looking for. My friends frequently borrowed when they have to prepare their journal clubs, and found it really helpful.
It is a dictionary; i.e., arranged alphabetically sequencing the terms, and if a term has more than one name, they mention them all, before the explanation.
I highly recommended to every resident, as it will not only will help during residency, but also surely during real life and practice, especially a with hundreds of "trials, studies" appears in medical journal daily.
I gave it four not five stars, because few explanation were rather short, despite informative, and lack of illustration and pictures, which may require you to use a regular textbook in Epidemiology, this happened maybe almost 1 from every 10 terms.

"The" dictionary of epidemiology
One of the major problems with studying the field of epidemiology is the inconsistency of terminology that is used. This is because the field is relatively young, is actively evolving and has developed from multiple other disciplines including the social sciences as well as the medical sciences and statistics. As a result, it can be both confusing and frustrating for the student. This dictionary is the "bible" of terminology for the fireld, in part because there is no other. This should be an absolute requirement for the shelf of every student in the field of epidemiology. Even experienced epidemiologists are encouraged to have a copy for reference purposes. The only caution is that a new edition is due out soon. It can only be better than the first edition. Get it.

A great journey!
If you've ever felt the tug of truth at your shoulder and stepped onto a path to find it, this book is for you. It is written with such a command of wisdom gleened from so many mystery schools that each page teaches as well as entertains.

The author's character development works in the case of each individual as well as in the ecceltic group that they form as the story unfolds. This book has a smart ending that left me anxiously awaiting Ms. Gillentine's next one.

A timely and profound Messenger
I read MESSENGERS last year and became so immersed in the story and the characters that I could hardly put it down until I had turned the final page.

My certification in Alchemical Hypnotherapy gave me a deep appreciation for the hypnotic regression portions of Gillentine's book, and so many facets of it seemed to parallel my own life long spiritual quest.

Anyone with an interest in or resonance to: Egyptian themes, the mysteries of Atlantis, "star lore", the possibilities and potentialities of reincarnation, and the notion that our destiny (and our soul mates) may indeed follow us through time, will love this book.

"The path of the Soul is written in the stars".

Transported back in time
The vivid descriptions in Julie Gillentine's MESSENGERS awakened deep feelings. I felt transported back in time to ancient Egypt and Atlantis. MESSENGERS is well researched and accurately describes the path of initiation. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in ancient wisdom traditions.
