I simply wish that I had this book and/or Dr. Poynor's courses in West African and Central African Art prior to living in Central Africa. Now that I had these courses, I find that this book is less a formal text and more a comprehensive guide to understanding the art forms created in the various regions of Africa by the peoples and cultures. This book is a must for anyone who has a true interest in following this facinating subject. I especially recommend this book to anyone planning to visit or live anywhere in Africa, particularly the Sub-saharan regions.

It brings to all, the reality of such a facinating and prevously skimmed subject, without interjecting personal belief or opinion. All facts in the book are well researched and presented.

I took an african arts class with Poynor and he used this book and the slide images. This was a wonderful tool. I usually HATE reading art books but this one read like a recreational book. GREAT illustrations! If u would like to learn more about the culture this is definately the book to get.

This is the most well-written, comprehensive, and lucid survey of African art available to date. I am using it as the primary text for my introduction to African art at both Princeton University and York College, CUNY and expect my students to come away with a valuable reference text that will not become outdated to quickly.

A bookfull of simple tests that don't require any special training or expensive equipment,but can tell you when your body systems are functioning normally and when you should consult a doctor. And when you do go to a doctor for a checkup, you can give him or her an intelligent and informed appraisal of what's going on. Tells you things your doctor wants you to tell him.

There are many excellent textbooks about Internal Medicine on the market, and I own a lot of them. But the Kelley's book is the one I look up more often. It stands out, since it gives you the broadest and deepest clinical coverage of the internal medicine you can find in a two-volumes textbook. The forthcoming 4th edition, which is scheduled for 8/2000 and will be edited by Humes, will expand furter the coverage, reaching an unprecedented range, at least as can be judged by the anticipated index. For the sake of clarity and completeness, each subspecialty (cardiology, endocrinology and metabolism, and so forth) is divided in three parts: the first group of chapters is devoted to the pathophysiologic foundations, the second to diseases and the third to the diagnosis and treatment. This format is clever, because allow you to study each section separately without being overwhelmed by the astonishing amount of information it contains. A lot of chapters are devoted to the approach to the patient with different symptoms, to the interpretation of instrumental data and to the treatment: they are another distictive feature of the book, making it invaluable. If you are a physician or a serious student searching for an authoritative, encyclopedic textbook with broad pathophysiologic coverage and wide sections about the management of the patient, the Kelley's textbook will not disappoint you. For many of us, it is a must buy. For all, it is a bargain. This textbook is the gold standard as Internal Medicine textbook: it got 5-stars from Doody, and as far as I know, it was the only one awarded with such a high acknowledgement. I agree: five stars.

This book is a 4 star find that people should add to their collection of motivational treasures. The author uses spiritual references that tie to each principal that is discussed. I especially found the sections on vision, purpose and goals useful. I would recommend it to anyone but I believe parents with children who are making decisions about their future education and careers will find the book invaluable because of the concepts, principals and strategies it gives for being successful not just for the short term on a material level but for the spiritual long run. Reading the chapters, following the action sections at the end of each chapter makes the book a hands-on resource for working one's plan.

There are many books produced each year to assist those who have chosen to go their own way. The how to's of being in business for yourself are well documented. However it seems that the actual understanding of the laws that one "must" know to be successful are not as clearly defined. This book outlines those laws. Just as there are differences in the laws of the universe so are there in the laws of success. Mr. Harris has captured the essence of what one must know about themselves and their world to succeed

This is a systematic presentation of the principles/laws of success based upon the Bible. I have read most of the well known 'success' books available and this book is truly up there with the best.This book is highly underated. No where else will you find such a straight forward explanation of the laws of success.

Simply put, very informative, holds your interest. The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5, is that you should always check with your doctor before doing any tests at home, but they are all relatively safe. I condone the book for anyone at home who is worried, or at the least - impatient!

This book is bad. Aside from being historically inaccurate in several areas, the authors quote newspaper clippings and "anonymous", uncorroborated, negative citizen comments as fact. The authors "preach" their perspectives and beliefs based on their "theory" of how minorities have been abused or mistreated over generations. Very little, if any, of the information presented as factual is substantiated by historical evidence. Ninty percent of the book is pure speculation, conjecture, and biased opinion against law enforcement. It is a very slanted and liberal writing. I do not recommend it unless you are mandated to read it. For a better perspective on the real world of managing in law enforcement, try Proactive Police Management. It is also a liberal slant of view, but a much more accurate and interesting read.

Authors give insightful ideas on how to police with a variety of different cultures now facing America. The book offers almost a "how-to" for Departments considering a need to implement a more culturally sensitive process for their city. Cultures considered include the obvious African American, Hispanic, Asian, Indian as well as "lifestyle" cultures.
