a breakthrough book
at last some one has written a really through and deeply felt book about this most toxic of emotions. This is a genuine contribution to help people get to grips with the shadow, and really know and understand it.. Absolutely essential for any one serious about their spiritual and analytic work.

a must have for any WoD guru
note: typed in chat lt. :)

I find it hard to give somthing 5 stars but, this a very good book. It is not for your every day gamer tho, it is a hevy duty source book witch covers New Orleans and DC by night, it is filled with lots of history and chr info for dozens of ppl in both cities outlinning most every residing Kindred(and evean some Huntes and Mages)knowen to be there! New Orleans also comes with a canned story witch is filled with lots of source info in it's self.

not to say the book has no flaws i find if funny that none of the Kindred in New Orleans or DC have any (no merits either:)) but with that aside i find it hard to point my finger at any thing else

so all and all i would say it a must have for any WoD guru

Gingerbread Man in Signed English

The Gingerbread Man in Signed English
This is a simple, and concise version of the age old charming story of The Gingerbread Man. The illustrations are colorful and charming. What really sets it apart is the clearly illustrated signs. My pre-kindergarten class of three and four year old children enjoyed signing words in the story such as the gingerbread man and the assortment of animals. This was a catalyst for learning to sign the first letters in their names. The Gingerbread Man in Signed English really developed an interest in sign language and communication without words for my pre-kindergarten students.

I highly recommend this picture book as an added adition to your library for preschoolers and young children.

Ms. Yamanaka, You're Breaking My Heart!
What an amazing writer! Yet, I've now read three books by this wonderful author, and the redundancy of the themes is ruining my experience. Why do all the characters have to end with such downtrodden lives, where the girls get pregnant by the middle of the book, the sister is a wannabe diva, and the father and mother just plain don't care?

As for the stereotypes, I think that the stereotypes bring the book alive. You're not supposed to really question the motives of the characters, but instead see how they play out in terms of the main character's life.

Think about it -- if the stereotypical chauvanistic men were sensitive and thoughtful in the book, read Shakespeare, drank port wine instead of beer and snorted coke, remained monogamous, and spoke proper English, would the book be interesting? They're part of the tension that lies in Toni Yagyuu's life, and help shape the experience around her. If they were proper young men, would we really discover that Maverick and Wyatt actually had a sensitive side? Would we even be dealing with the issue of her not knowing who the father was? No, because they'd be acting perfectly from page one, and wouldn't both be sleeping with Toni at the same time. The lives of the characters simply cannot be perfect in order to have a book with a decent plot.

However, the lives of the characters shouldn't be played out over and over and over and over in each work Ms. Yamanaka writes. It's really beginning to disappoint me.

Heartwrenching yet wonderful portrayl of local life in Hilo
Heads by Harry made me cry with homesickness for the beautiful Big Island, "local kine" food and the sound of pidgin English. The characters, from Toni, whom the story revolves around, to haole-hating Wyatt and the mahu Shelly - all are so real, so like Hawaii. Thank you Ms Yamanaka for presenting life in Hawaii in such an earthy, moving and realistic way.

A true coming of age book, Hawaiian-style!!
I have enjoyed reading all of Lois Yamanaka's books. However, "Heads By Harry" is by far the most entertaining and most descriptive of life growing up local in the islands. Her characters have a natural rawness. They are frequently distasteful and crude, but Yamanaka portraits them in a style that you eventually love them all. It was hard to put this book down. I wanted the Pau hana hours to continue forever.

J. K. Rowling: A Biography (Unauthorized Edition)
Published in Hardcover by Greenwood Publishing Group (2003)
Author: Connie Ann Kirk
Amazon base price: $27.50
Average review score:

Nothing new in this book - very disappointing
I bought this book and Sean Smith's biography of the same name as I love the Harry Potter books and wanted to find out more about the author, who seems to be quite private and doesn't reveal much about herself. There is no new material in Kirk's book - in fact she has taken a lot of the information from Smith's book which came out 2 years ago so you may as well just buy that one!

If you buy this book thinking you'll read something new, don't bother.

A Harry Potter Fan
My mom and I both read this book while we were waiting for Harry Potter #5 to come out. It has some things in it I've never heard of before about Ms. Rowling. My mom said she thought the Forest of Dean near where Ms. Rowling grew up sounded like a magical place and maybe that's where some of her ideas came from. We loved the names of the mushrooms they have there! We liked this book a lot and recommend it to any Harry Potter fans out there who would like to know more about the author. It's also the most up-to-date biography we know of--it even mentions her new baby!

Up-to-date and Accurate
This book is very informative and provides a clear way of undrstanding parts of J.K. Rowling's life. It is by far the most accurate and up-to-date biography of J.K. Rowling.
I give this book 5 stars because of its accuracy and the fact that this book is the most up-to-date biography of J.K. Rowling.

Nice place, shame about the text
Having lived in both Cape Town and Oxford I looked forward to getting lost in this book. Maybe I was just missing the point, or maybe I expected too much, but instead of beguiling it just annoyed. On the positive side, the use of different times and spaces concurrently worked well, but the introduction of so many famous faces from the past... Just flashing familiar faces and building on their stereotypes does not make it an interesting historical novel. I will admit that I may be being too hard on this book, it has after all been given great reviews, but of the three people I know who've read it, each being from Oxford and/or Cape Town, no-one has found that it warrents its reviews.
