A Childrens' Library Must Have
We started reading to our baby when he was just a few weeks old. This was the one book that stimulated his senses right away. The bright and contrasting colors captured his attention as an infant and now as a toddler, this is still his favorite book.

Excellent--A Must Have
My daughter loves this book. She has to have it at least once a day--if not 15 times. One of the first things she would do once she could walk was carry it to me so I could read it to her. As her vocabulary has developed she asks for it by name and loves to point out the things she knows the words for. And after having read it hundreds of times, I still find the art freash and amusing. How many children's books hold up to that test?

Yeah
My son usually can't sit still for long periods of time and this book is PERFECT. He loves my exaggerated pronounciation of the text and the pictures are big, bright, and appealing. His favorite book, by far!!

A bargain!
I know a bargain when I see one. Sussman's book juxtaposes Keith's drawings and paintings alongside interviews with Keith's contemporaries (they even bring in Junior Vasquez), without any attempt at being complete. The price is lowered because of a black Sharpie line on the top of the pages. That's it! If you have any interest in Keith Haring or even art in general, this is a great way to look at a great artist.

hip-hop, you dont stop
a collection of keiths works, from the beginning to the very end. installations, sculptures, as well as his paintings on buildings and objects grace the pages of this large format book. a definite for every fan of this kutztown boy. describes keiths life through letters and stories from friends, photos, and many beautiful full color works by the artist. bright and bold, just like his life.

Love Keith? Love this book!
This is a book I picked up at the Whitney exhibit in 1997 - it's a great variety of all Keith's work. His style has varied over the years and this book does a great job showing his evolution. My favorite part is the fact that many of his pieces from his youngest years are included. It's always interesting to see where your favorite artist started.

Must read for art students and artists
Keith had a fascinating life... although he and I went to the same school, I feel everyone will identify with his message. Read it!

Cultivated Admiration
I did not understand nor really enjoy Keith Harings work until I read his journal. His thought processes that develope in the book talk about what he was trying to acomplish with his work. Knowing the angle that he was working from gave me a much deeper appreciation for his work. I think this is a very valuable book in understand Keith's views and philosophies behind his work.

This book gives you a feeling of the man behind his art.
Keith Haring is unbelievably talented. He is one of my favorite artist's--and in his journals I got to understand where some of his compositions came from---If you like his work and you want to know where some of his ideas came from. Check out this book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keith Haring: Radiant Child
I first became interested in Keith Haring as an artist when I saw a collection of his work at the Tampa Museum of Art in the very early 1990's. By that time, Keith had already passed away; however, he left behind a very large legacy of his remarkable work. I decided I had to know more about this man whose colorful pop art had caught my eye, so I went out and bought the book, "Keith Haring: The Authorized Biography." This book is awesome!! It is part autobiography, part miniature art gallery. Keith's story is told in a very intimate, revealing way, and it really makes you feel as if you are right there in the middle of his life in New York in the 80's. All of the famous artists and people from the entertainment world that comprised Keith's social circle are also included in the book, offering up their observations and anecdotes of Keith Haring, his lifestyle, and his art. There are many personal photographs of the artist at work and with his friends included in the book, as well as eye-popping photos of some of Keith's famous works. Often Keith Haring is called a "grafitti artist." When you read this book, you will realize that he is more than just that; Keith Haring was a down-to-earth man whose stunning and sometimes controversial art holds a universal appeal and a bittersweet social commentary of life as he knew it. Art lovers - don't miss out on this one!

This was the first biography that I'd read
I had always been under the impression that biographies were purposely designed to be dull and pointless, until I picked up this book. I have always liked Haring's work and wanted to find out more about the man himself. Not only is this book a biography but it contains words from Haring himself. It is very accessible, all chapters are broken down into easy to read sections and you can dip in and out of the book as you wish. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in his art (it contains many colour photographs of his more famous works) and all those who are interested in learning more about Haring's colourful life.

A fascinating and intimate portrait of an artist
What makes "Keith Haring: The Authorized Biography", such a moving work is its unique approach to the biographical format. Rather than just recount his research into Haring's life, author John Gruen has pieced together writings by Haring, the artist's friends, companions, mentors, and dealers. The narrative switches perspective quite often, resulting in a balanced and more revealing account of Haring's life and art, from different points of view. Among other things, Haring recounts his beginnings as a graffiti artist, his rivalry with the painter Jean-Michel Basquiat, and his coming to terms with being gay, and eventually, his contraction of AIDS. Profusely illustrated throughout, the book also gives an inside look at several aspects of the 80's art scene in New York city. By the end, the reader gains not only a thorough knowledge of Haring the artist, but more importantly, an understanding of the humanist philosophy and intent behind the art

Pop & Colorful. Delight for grownups, too!
Pop and cute picture book. Each page contains Keith's colorful dancing men from 1 to 10 with English, Spanish, French and German words like "One, Uno, Un, Eins." It's also delight for grownups!

A good beginning
I bought this book for my newborn granddaughter. The bold pictures and bright colors make it an excellent choice for immediate introduction to reading. It is a delight to the eye of the adult who is reading and easy for the little one to focus on. As the child grows, she is able to look at the numbers for herself. If you buy BIG, you gotta' have TEN to go with it.

Nina's Book has such innocence, enthusiasm and vitality.
It's sort of a cross between a journal and a sketchbook, with drawings by Haring and lots of space for a child's own drawings and thoughts. I gave it to my son a couple of years ago. To be honest, he didn't get off on it, so a couple of days ago I asked if he would be willing to pass it on to his 9 year old sister, and she's been working on it ever since. I'd ignore Amazon's age recommendations. It's good for the artistically inclined, especially girls, up to at least age 11 or 12.

Great for kids of all ages
Keith Haring's book is wonderful! Kids can write their own stories, draw their own pictures and collect their own treasures in this beautiful giant book. Haring's drawings and funny comments make this fun to read even without your child's input. My nieces and nephews (from age 6 to 12) immediately started writing and drawing and couldn't put their "Big Books" down! It's a book they will always treasure, because they wrote most of it themselves!

The vibrant vision of Keith Haring
Keith Haring, who died of AIDS-related complications in 1990, was an artist with a bold and distinctive style. "Love" contains many of his drawings together with the text of a poem he wrote.

This is a beautiful book. Haring created an instantly recognizable style with his drawings. His portrayals of heart shapes, human shapes, and other elements have both an iconic quality and a life-affirming energy. Many of his drawings combine a mystical feeling with postmodern playfulness.

My only reservation about this book involves a note on the page of publication data. It reads, "The Keith Haring artwork in this book has been reproduced faithfully; however the colors of some works have been altered." Huh? I see no need to change the artist's colors. I think the editors of the book overstepped themselves with that decision. Nevertheless, this book effectively captures the genius of Keith Haring, an artist who continues to inspire people all over the world.

Pop, colorful and a bit sad Love Poem by Keith
Pop and colorful picture book full of hearts and couples designs. The text is a complete poem written by Keith as a teenager. Broken hearted words, "There'll be never be another you!" would be impressive to all generations.

A beautiful book for lovers
Keith Haring was an exceptionally talented artist, and after flipping through "Love," I discovered that he was also a poet. It's a great little book perfect for sharing with a significant other. This book just makes you feel good!

Keith Haring's joyful dance of life
"Dance," by Keith Haring, brings together a number of illustrations by the artist (who died from AIDS-related complications in 1990), together with quotes from his own journals about dance and other arts. This is a beautiful book, full of energy and joy. Haring's images have a uniquely funky poetry to them. Whether he's creating a robot DJ, whimsical animals, or tribal/iconic looking humanoid figures, Haring imprints his distinctive style upon all.

My only problem with the book involves the following editorial note on the publication data page: "The Keith Haring artwork in this book has been reproduced faithfully; however, the colors of some works have been altered." So. . . which colors have been altered, and why? I'm of the opinion that you don't mess with the work of a master artist unless you have a very good reason, and the editors of this book fail to fully explain this matter of alteration.

But despite this matter, Haring's vision shines through. He wrote, "The freedom of the artist is symbolic of the human spirit in all mankind." Haring's appeal transcends all barriers of difference, and "Dance" truly speaks to that universal human spirit.

You'll be dancing for joy with these cheery pictures!
"Dance" is a happy little collection ofpostcard-sized pictures. The images are arranged on pages opposite tosmall related quotations lifted from Keith Haring's journal (alsoavailable ...). The pictures are mainly contain a single-figure in 2 or 3 colours, perfect for the size of paper available and it works very well within the layout of the book. From decks to breakdancers to ballerinas - the images are as enduring as they are lurid in their fluorescent colours! It is a handsome book (in hardback with smart dust jacket) and would make a brilliant gift for a Haring fan, especially if they were into a form of dance too. We bought it for a DJ friend of ours but everyone who read it found it impossible not to find at least one favourite picture amongst them all which deserved more coverage!

Great way for kids to learn about art and Keith!
This is a great coloring book for kids and adults alike! The great thing about Keith's work is that it leaves a lot of room for the imagination to take hold. All the images are Black and White. (I gave four stars because I wish there was more of them!!) The colors are limitless! Use this book to teach your kids about primary and rainbow colors. Or color away yourself!
