A Great Baseball Story
Paul Mather is a character that any baseball fan can relate to. Paul has a passion for pitching that is so strong, not even a incurable blood disease can stop him from getting on the mound. This is not only a story about baseball, but a story about life. I am an elementary eduacation student, and I hope to use this book in my classroom. The way Alfred Slote develops Paul's character through the story is amazing. As I read I felt like I was going through everything with Paul. If you have ever enjoyed books by Matt Christopher this is definetely a book for you to read. I would recommend this book to anyone age 9 and up.

Wonderful Juvenile literature book
This is a heartwarming tale of a young boy with leukemia and a zest for baseball. The theme of going after your goals, regardless of the obstacles, is personified in the main character of Paul Mather. Though set in the 1970's, this story transcends time to today. Many children are still fighting Leukemia, as well as many other illnesses.
Children will connect with Paul forging his parents name on the permission slip for baseball. What child has not forged a signature, or thought about it, and then was caught? This experience by Paul is universal.
Childhood love of activity, also gives universal appeal, through Paul's love of baseball. Many young boys, and some girls, can name their favorite player's statistics. Paul, the main character, is the same. This book is a wonderful story to share. I would use this in a middle school English classroom.

Hang Tough Paul Mather
Reviwer:Auston October 26,2001
This is my first time reading this book. Hang Tough Paul Mather is a book about a boy named Paul Mather who loves baseball but he has a disease that causes his parents not to let him play. Unless his doctor say it's OK, he can't play. But he plays anyway without doctor's permission. I would recommend it to any one(except a baby). It's a Great book.

At LAST, someone wrote a book for the REST of us!
Storms Pass So Hang On is the kind of book you will take to bed with you -- especially on long dark nights. I was hooked by the time I finished the Prologue and the first two chapters. All chapters are mercifully short, which tells me the author understands that the attention span is the first thing to go, when you're stressed. In my opinion, this book leap frogs over the usual perky devotional book which often leaves me feeling a bit guilty if I haven't triumphed over my traumas in the first 15 minutes (with the aid of a Bible verse and a wink). Storms Pass is one delightful slice of life after another, painted with a vivid eye for detail and a total lack of saccharine. At LAST, someone wrote a book for the REST of us! I've been looking for a book like this for the past ten years. Thanks, Nancy.

I purchased several copies.
After reading the book, I purchased several copies. They make great gifts for friends who are going through struggles. The many personal stories of hope often bring just the right encouragement.

A book of inspirition for daily living.
Many examples of how God is there for us in all of or problems and everyday disappointments in life, and how he turns what could be a bad thing into good.

Dogs Deserve Dialogue...by Judy Moore
I have read Judy's book, seen her video, met her when she came to Milwaukee in 2001 to work with two dogs, and this year in May 2002 when she gave a wonderful presentation at the Wisconsin Humane Society talking about some of her successes which are also mentioned in her book. She did a live demonstration and as a volunteer at the facility, I received so much positive feedback from attendees. The book has helped friends of mine who recently acquired dogs and one person in particular refers to Judy's book as his "bible" when working with his dog. As a dog walker, Judy's book has helped me work with the dogs I walk at the shelter. The book is so worthwhile to every dog owner, both new and those who have had dogs, and this book should be associated on Amazon with other dog-related books (whether training or pleasure reading).
Thank you.

This is an exceptional book.
DOGS DESERVE DIALOGUE & Judy Moore's Video are exceptional and truly in the dog's language. Our German shepherd had been kept in a little kennel for breeding. They had two other dogs that were allowed in the house and car. We were given Jazmine at 3 1/2 years old. She hated dogs and people and was unmanagable. She was excellent in every other way. We have 11 dog books and none of that training helped us. We got Judy's book and tape and started working with her. Jazmine had to have a serious surgery and was quite ill for a month. Judy wrote us an email and asked how we were doing. We were very discouraged. With Judy's encouragement we started training again. Immediately, Jazmine picked up where we left off. She would behave responsibility with constant praise. This would have been impossible without Judy's book and tape. Judy Moore is an exceptional person, gives generous help and support, and is constantly wanting to help all animals. This is the only dog book you need for training. We suggest you get the tape as it is quite helpful. The dogs learn very quickly and without being stressed.

Dogs Deserve Dialogue
I own a very high spirited dog. When I first started walking him as a young puppy, we were both attacked several times by dogs that were not on leashes. Because of this, my dog has what I can only call Social anxiety. He is frightened of any new experience. Instead of cowering, he became aggressive. I have trained dogs using a variety of methods over the years, but only this book was able to help me help my dog. It inspired me to also join Judy in a weekend training session. Between the book, the video and Judy's help, my dog is able to handle his fears and even overcome some of them. It is not a quick fix, it requires a relationship with your dog. The work is gratifying and you will not believe what a wonderful dog you own!

Performance Flying: Hang Gliding Techniques for Intermediate and Advanced Pilots

Expanding our flights
Until reading this book I was concentrating on unnecessary things during flight. It helps you get over the basics with clear instructions, and moves on to more advanced techniques like cross, towing, aerobatics. a real must foar ALL hang gliding pilots.

Required book for the advancing hang glider pilot
I first flew a hang glider solo at Wallaby Ranch Florida in June 1998. With the information I read in this book I have logged over ten hours of solo air time in 23 flights. Several flights longer than an hour. One flight lasted two hours. I cannot recomend it highly enough.

This book should be in every pilot's reference library
Dennis Pagen has professionalized the presentation of HG instruction in many works, and deserves the gratitude of HG pilots world wide.

This book, and the clear presentation of important concepts of thermaling, cross country flying, and speed-to-fly theory make it a gem of gliding knowledge for weekend and competition pilots.

Ordinary people in China - true love and saddness
I am a Chinese living in Hong Kong. I was so moved by this book when I read it 7 years ago. Its the extra-ordinary observation of the author that illustrated the ordinary life of Chinese People. It had special meaning during that particular moment of history. China is changing form a close society and are openning to the world. Its like birds flying out of the cage. They may forget to fly but they keep on trying. The author showed the spirit of Chinese People that are strugging to achieve their goals under difficult conditions.

Extraordinarily vivid writing, fascinating!
Rosemary Mahoney describes a year teaching English in Hangzhou, China, with an extraordinary gift for language and an eye for detail. While her experiences may not be as sensational as those in Mark Salzman's China memoir Iron and Silk, she is an infinitely more talented and entertaining writer. Salzman's book can be consumed once or simply foregone for the film adaptation of Iron and Silk, but I find myself returning again and again to Ms Mahoney's book, more for how she describes situations and people than for what actually happened. It's sad (but alas, not surprising) to see that such a quiet masterpiece has gone out of print while Salzman's journalistic anecdotes keep flying out of bookstores...Find the Early Arrival of Dreams anyway!

Finally!
Finally an employee retention resource from an outstanding consultant that combines practical step by step instructions with theory AND excellent examples from top companies. Keeping outstanding employees should be a top priority for every business, but unfortunately retention often runs a distant second to recruitment. Leigh Branham takes the mystery out of keeping top employees by providing business owners, managers and consultants proven retention tips. After introducing each retention practice, Leigh provides a questionnaire to evaluate your company's effectiveness. Plus the appendix is filled with surveys, checklists and evaluations you can start using today! As a consultant and coach, I am using Leigh's material with companies and individual clients and getting excellent feedback.

Avoid Brain Drain
Leigh has written a book that should be on the desk of every business person who wants to create a work environment where people do their best because they are valued as the best.

Although change is part of life, a business always wants to keep the talent that makes for success. This book serves as a clear, concise outline as to how to make this happen. It shares down to earth advice that works in the real work world.

What a great addition this would be to the required reading list for MBA students. Many of the problems that are faced daily in today's business world could be prevented if Leigh's findings were put into practice! I highly recommend this book to both small and large business managers.

Do you need your own people coach?
I have known Leigh Branham for 20 years and the book reflects who he is. It is a straight forward, bottom line approach to solving the critical people problems in business today. If you are looking for ways to maximize the contributions of your people, if you are looking for solutions, if you want a personal people coach sitting on your shoulder, then go out and get this book today. Who knows, Leigh might even have an idea or two that will help you. Because if you don't have your best people satisfying your customers, someone else will.

STAR RATS!
Both the text and drawings of this book will have you in stitches, and keep you wondering. While seemingly simplistic, the small phrases like "FLEX, ELF" accompanied by a drawing of a dwarf desperately trying to muster up to large cloned muscle men are absolutely hilarious. If you love words, language, and a sharp wit, this is the book for you. Truly one you will want to return to again.

stack cats
Palindromes. Hard to write, fun to read, especially in the expert hands of Jon Agee.

A palindrome is a word or phrase that is spelled the same way forwards or backwards, as in "Go hang a salami! I'm a lasagna hog!", which has to be one of the longest and most complicated palindromes in existence.

Mr. Agee has collected some fantastically fun and funny palindromes in this collection illustrated by the author. There is a picture of a lion on a sunny beach with a bottle of "lion oil" behind him. Winnie the Pooh is doing the hula hoop (it's "Pooh's hoop", of course!!). My personal favorite (and an exceptionally long palindrome) is of an inventor in a room full of switches, gadgets and wires. In the middle of the room sits a tiny box playing music. He exclaims, arms out, "I madam, I made a radio! So I dared! Am I mad, am I?!" Go ahead, spell it backwards...

In a world where good English skills are swiftly becoming a rarity and few folk seem interested in grammar or word games, Mr. Agee's book is a breath of fresh air. At times, the illustrations fit the palindromes so perfectly that you almost forget that these are special sentences that are quite difficult to create, and the read more like a comic strip.

Kudos to Mr. Agee for not only playing about with words to create Palindromes, but for publishing some for those struggling folk (like myself) who can't seem to come up with any of our own!! Readers may also want to check out his other book, "So Many Dynamos!"

upliftingly funny, great for when I'm in a funk
this book is found in one of my local libraries and it helps me to get out of my adult depressions. I'm especially enamored of the guy in the Chinese Restaurant who's asked by the waiter, "Wonton?" and his reply is "Not now!"

Mrs. McNosh Hangs Up Her Wash
Published in Unknown Binding by Bt Bound (2002)
Author: Sarah Weeks
Amazon base price: $18.50

A Colorful Silly Book Kids Will Love to Read
This colorfully illustrated book is full of silly rhymes. Mrs. McNosh begins by doing the laundry, but becomes increasingly silly as she hangs more than just shirts and socks up on the line to dry. Soon ironing boards and the turkey dinner are drying in the breeze. The silly story will keep children giggling all the way through. The only drawback - - I didn't care for their choice of typeface, but that's just the designer in me talking!

Teacher Recommended, Mother Approved!
When my son's teacher told me how much he enjoyed this book, I decided to buy it and haven't regretted it. It is filled with rhyming sentences and silly situations, and my kids love to see and read about the funny things Mrs. McNosh does on her laundry day.

Delightful book with great illustrations!
Although this book is supposedly for the 4 and up set, my 2 year old absolutely loves it! The rhyming text realy holds her attention and makes her giggle, and the illustrations are really great. We checked this book out of the library on a whim, and now it's one of our favorites. Mrs. McNosh hangs all kinds of crazy things on her clothesline, including sleepy bats, the turkey she's roasting that night, and Grandpa McNosh's removable teeth. She gets a wrong number and hangs up the phone(on the clothesline that is), and when she's all done, she hangs herself up in a comfy chair for a nap. A truly whimsical book that your little ones will enjoy, and you will love to read to them again and again.
