FAST PACED AND DISTURBING
The Walk-In never lets up on the tension, it is a bullet of a book that at times I found very disturbing. Mark Halliday seems to have crossed the bounderies of the norm and given the reader a whole new, in your face approach to horror. I highly reccommend this book to readers of the horror genre but be prepared for a unique page turning excursion into a very seedy world. I look forward to seeing more of Mark Halliday on the shelves. He has my vote!

Heart Stopping Horror!
I read The Walk-In on the recommendation of a friend, and I must say it is nothing like I have ever read before. Although I found some scenes to be a little over the top - and grotesque in the extreme...Halliday has a way with words, and a technique that makes it damn near impossible to put the book down. Quite a few times throughout the story I wanted to just walk away and forget about it - but the plot and characters are so real and intense that I couldn't bring myself to stop turning those pages. Yes it is heart stopping horror - and yes - I would recommend his work to anyone that is prepared to be hooked and wound in like a struggling fish on a line. I have also checked out his new website and found that it enhances the overall experience I had of the book. I have no doubt this will not be the last time I read any of Halliday's work.

SCARED ME TO DEATH!!
Although I am a great fan of horror fiction - I was not prepared for "The Walk-In" It left me both gasping, and repulsed - while at the same time unable to put it down. A strange thing occurs to the reader of this book - although you want to get away because certain scenes are very graphic, you find yourself almost mesmerized by the ongoing tension and action. Although this is the first time I have read any of Mr. Halliday's work - I would certainly recommend him to all avid fans of the horror genere. After finishing his book I was left with a feeling that this is the new direction horror - and Mr. Halliday has broken the mould of the norm. I can only hope he continues to enthral, repulse, and excite his readers with his work in the future. What a great writer!!!

a useful book
I've the same book but a french one, it is the most useful book a reptiles' lover must have. It is simple to read, to understand. There's a good introduction to reptiles classifications (which is not obvious for begginers), the "identity card" for each animal is well conceived.
A good book to bring for travelling.

One great book.
Like all the books in this series "Reptiles and Amphibians" gives a species by species look at a huge variety of creatures. From Chameleons to Cobras this book has a great selection. There are not many field guides out there with such fantastic and detailed photos so I suggest it for anyone who loves the to some "unlovable" slimy or scaly creatures of our world.

A remarkable anthology of twenty-four poets
The Franconia, New Hampshire, farm of the American poet Robert Frost was turned into a museum and center for poetry and the arts in 1976. From that time, "The Frost Place" has been annual event wherein an emerging poet has been invited to spend the summer living in the house where Frost once lived and wrote some of his greatest poetry. The Breath Of Parted Lips: Voices From The Robert Frost Place, Volume One is a remarkable anthology of twenty-four poets, each of whom won that honor of a summer's residency and document the success of the original concept as a means of generating outstanding poetry while nurturing the poet's muse in the rooms and views that were once the inspiration of the great Robert Frost. Poem At 40: Windwashed--as if standing next to the highway,/a truck long as the century sweeping by,/all things at last bent in the same direction./An opening, as if all/the clothes my ancestors ever wore/dry on lines in my body:/wind-whipped, parallel with the ground,/some sleeves sharing a single clothespin/so that they seem to clasp hands,/seem to hold on.//And now that I can see/up the old women's dresses,/there's nothing but a filtered light./And now that their men's smoky breath/has traversed the earth,/it has nothing to do with them./And now that awkward, fat tears of rain/slap the window screen,/now that I'm naked too,/cupping my genitals, tracing with a pencil/the blue vein between my collar bone and breast,/I'll go to sleep when I'm told.

The Sighted Singer: Two Works on Poetry for Readers and Writers

A Tractatus for poetics
This is an unusual but wonderful book for writers. Imagine a slightly more mystical Wittgenstein retreated to Galway Ireland and returned with a manuscript on the subjet of poetry: The Sighted Singer could be that manuscript. One some level this analogy is entirely superficial: the numbered section and paragraph organization is a direct descendent of Wittgenstein's Tractatus. But the Sighted Singer shares much more with the Tractatus than that: poetic thinking so rigorous it becomes almost mystical, a ladder one must pull up after one has climbed up it.Whether the author's poetics are "right" or "true" is almost inconsequential. His propositions are so challenging and so thought-provoking that the mere experience of reading this book is valuable. If you are a writer or serious reader of poetry, this book will make you more serious about the task at hand in either endeavor.

Where's He Going to Go Next?
many good poems, but there's so much irony in this book that when you get to poems like Tonette the poet sounds like a hypocrite. how'd erma bombeck get into the room? "bad people" is a weird mix of nostalgia, empathy and disapproval but ends up feeling parental (ask your mother) and hence cliche. "Other Pages" reads like a page torn from the Frank Bidart handbook "Emotional displays through Typography." and haven't i seen some of these poems before, in Tasker Street? the poet seems to have painted himself into a corner here.

A Pleasure to Read
The best thing about Mr. Halliday's work is that you can see the personal nature of the author in the poems. I can see Mark sitting up late at night writing all of this (Loaded Inflections) and I can understand the relationships he has with his characters (Divorce Dream). Selfwolf is absolutely believable and devoid of cloying sentiment. His personality is on those pages and to read them leaves me wanting to research volumes on his thoughts. This book is a lot less like typical poetry and a lot more like the most interesting discussion you've ever had with that one person who is intriguing because he won't let you pick his brain. The one disappointment? I want to know even more.

Masterful, Mysterious, and Wholeheartedly Delicious
Considering that I usually consume books of poetry in one healthy sitting, the fact that I savored this book for almost two weeks stands as partial testament to its brilliance, intrigue, and genuine understanding of the human condition. Halliday writes about experiences which, while superficially banal, actually manage to penetrate both the conventional medium of poetry, and the varied audiences receiving his poems. Throughout the book he continually pokes fun at himself as a poet and the meaning of "immortality" through writing while also providing us with a tragic and beautiful collection of ideas ranging from the traditionally important (divorce, loss, heartache) to the Romantic oddities (Baudelairian passing of strangers) to the existentially bizarre (urban mediocrity, male angst, reconstruction of self). This book cannot be ignored by anyone seriously interested in gutsy, intelligent, witty, entertaining poetry. I'm still stuck with its pungent, admittedly disturbing though remarkably satisfying aftertaste!
