NOT your busy women's/ men's book; it is the I LOVE to cook
This is not your busy women's or men's cookbook; nor is it your diet or strictly vegetarian epistle. It is one of the ultimate"I LOVE to cook books!" There is a wide variety of classical and international recipes that glorify the art of cooking. Each recipe includes brief notes about the country of origin and the context the food was eaten in; for instance the "Dundee Wedding Cake" (with 12 eggs, currants, almonds, etc) gives a brief history of this tradition starting from the Middle Ages in England.

Take your time with each recipe and refer frequently to the companion book with more in depth history and illustrations!! Hopefully, it will come back into print so that I can give it as a gift to many of my friends that love to entertain or just savor a scrumtious meal at home!

Traces the evolution of wining and dining & includes recipes
Highly recommended for school and public libraries. This book traces the evolution of wining and dining and displays a collection of more than 675 recipes and menus from the world's cuisines, past and present.Illustrations are terrific. So sad it is out of print!!

Health Reference
This is an excellent reference about your life's healthy journey. The easy reading with straight facts about your choices affecting your health have convincing ideas about keeping your health in your hands. The book includes facts about moral decisions people make but covers the subject fairly without persuasion - just obvious facts. Psychology, mental and physical health, exercise, diet, and life changing lessons fill the book in a no nonsense manner. This book does not cover AIDS because of its early printing, otherwise, it is "current" in relevance for 2000.

Health Bible
This book covers everything from diet and exercies to psychology and drugs. I first read it as a student about 15 years ago and have kept it at my side ever since because of its topical relevance and message: Your health is your responsibility and most of your emotional and physical health is decided by your own choices - that is why I guide myself by this book. As the paperback has worn and lost a few pages, I have been interested in a new copy, thus you find my review.

After 70 years, an objective account
Big Bill Thompson has been a political whipping boy ever since he failed to win re-election as Chicago mayor in the 1930s. Subsequent books on Thompson were written by supporters who wished to praise, detractors who wished to condemn or journalists who just wanted to tell a good story. But finally, after 70 years, an objective account has been written of Big Bill Thompson together with the intricate details of the prevailing political climate in Chicago before, during and after the Roaring Twenties.

Learn about the Big Bill Thomson who inherited his money from lucky parents who owned the one section of Chicago which did not burn in the Great Fire of 1871.

Learn about the Big Bill Thompson who was one of the most celebrated athletes in late 19th century Chicago.

Learn about the Big Bill Thompson who as a cowboy turned a profit on his ranch while Teddy Roosevelt was losing money on his.

Learn about a Mayor Thompson who championed an "America First" policy while exploiting class envy for his own political gain.

The reader is left with the impression that Big Bill Thompson invented the type of politics in use today. Rather than focus on Thompson himself, however, the book also explores the campaigns of his opposition, leaving the reader with a full understanding of what worked for Thompson and why it worked.

The scandal involving contributions from gangsters which effectively ended his career is given the space it deserves at the end of the book, but is not the focus of the book, as are most contemporary news stories. The reader is left with a well-rounded and objective account of one of the most successful mayors in Chicago history -- and how he got there.

And as the final coup de grace at the conclusion of the book, the reader will undoubtedly be shocked when they realize that Big Bill Thompson never committed half the indiscretions attributed to Big Bill Clinton.

All in all, it was an excellent and enlightening read. Thoroughly enjoyable.

A Terrific Teacher Resource for Teachers Who Care!
While taking a graduate class in conflict resolution and peacebuilding, I was first introduced to the name William J. Kreidler, the author of this book. I became interested in learning more about this advocate for helping children in today's world to work through their conflicts without violence. Having now read his book, I am very excited to have a "teacher-friendly" curriculum guide in hand to help me with conflict resolution in my classroom. The literature and ideas presented in this resource are geared for grades K-2. Through the use of language-rich children's literature, the author gives the teacher wonderful ways to teach the concepts of diversity, problem-solving, conflict-solving, caring, respect and community. I would highly recommend this book! I can't wait to put these ideas to use!
