The Gentelman Outlaw and Me-Eli: A Story the the Old West
This book is a really good book. Like all of Mary Downing Hahn's books, this book is unlike others. Eliza, a tomboy girl who lives with her aunt and uncle decides to go and try to find her papa. On her journy she meets Calvin. A boy that claims he's an outlaw. They go through many adventures and then in the end Eliza shows true courage and they also find a shocking surprise that awaits them at the end of their journey. I recemend this book to ages 9 and up.

I Loved It!
This is a really great book. It kept me interested not only because of its great descriptions and exciting plot, but also because I live in Colorado. Mary Hahn is a fantastic author and a lot of thought was put into her book. It's a story everyone should know.

An awesome adventure book!
The Spanish Kidnapping Disaster is one of my favorite books ever! It's such an awesome book, I recomend it for everyone. It's an adventure book that takes place in Spain. Felix meets a woman she wants to be just like; Grace. Her mom just remarried and know she has a stepsister and stepbrother she doesn't like. Knw all the kids have tag along on their parent's honeymoon in Spain. Graces saves them when they were lost, but she isn't what Felic thinks she is. Grace leads them all into a disasterous adventure the kids will never forget. Will Grace come through to them? This is a book you'll want to own so you can read it over and over again!

An Adventure in Ancient and Mysterious Spain!
Spain is a wonderfully interesting country, and Felix and Amy and Phillip have come to visit with their new family after the recent marriage of their parents. Travel to Europe is not always interesting for boys and girls whose lives are filled with other activities and interests, but the children meet a woman named Grace in Toledo, and she takes them on an adventure that they never will forget!! This is a story of not only the feelings and emotions of the children, but it is a fine study in human relations and the slow melding of people from two families into one! This is a high interest book for middle and upper grade elementary school students and middle school age students

Anna on the Farm
Published in Paperback by HarperTrophy (September, 2003)

A charming book
Hahn has another winner with this gentle and wise novel of a city girl who finds freedom and friendship during a summer visit to her aunt and uncle's farm. Dramatic tension comes from Anna's encounters with Theodore, an orphan boy who has been taken in by the farm family. Theodore and Anna begin as jealous rivals, but are as close as brother and sister by the book's end. Readers will cheer for Anna as she leaves her stuffy, urban life behind (if only for a while) and becomes a scrappy and happy mud-caked farm girl. I was genuinely sorry to see the book end, and hope Ms. Hahn has more books about Anna in the works.

VERY INTERESTING BUT COULD BE SCARIER
What's that misty white figure lerking behind that tree near that old overgrown grave? Could it be Helen? Read the book and find out. Before I read this book I was in the mood for a ghost story. I had been reading Little House books, and thought it was time for a change. I went to my school library and started to look around when I noticed a group of about four kids gathering around a book. I overheard one say,"Hey, why don't you read Wait Till Helen Comes." I also overheard the same one say it was a ghost story! After the gathering of kids left, with four copys out of the five, I was immediatly drawn to the remaining copy. I opened the book, read the summary, and said to myself,"This is the book I've been looking for." Even though the book kept you in suspense of what was to happen next, it didn't forfill its duties as to being very frightening or scary. Other than that it was an excellent book. With thrilling suspense and touching care and love from one sister to another, this tear-jerker/fictional ghost story is a great book for the right mood. You won't be able to "Wait Till Helen Comes" to read this book! (SUBMITTED BY JWF, A 12-YEAR-OLD READER)

A Ghost Story
I read a novel called "Wait Till Helen Comes." This was an incredible book about two children who moved named Michael and Molly. They are living with thier worst enemy, Heather. Now Helen the ghost who's Heather's friend comes and destroys everything. Can Molly and Michael stop her from leading Heather into the pond, so they can be friends forever? Read the book to find out. I hope you enjoy yourself reading this wonderful novel, but don't get too scared or frightened!

I have come. H.E.H.

This is the best book I've read in weeks! I go to the library almost every week. I loved this story. It is about a family that consists of Jane (the mother) and her 2 children, Molly and Michael, and Dave (the father) and his daughter, Heather.

When the family moves to an old church, everything turns upside down. Heather's mother died in a fire so the family thinks that she is just a sensitive child. I the back yard of the church, the is a graveyard. Heather later finds a ghost friend, Helen. The ghost is about to make Heather commit suicide in order to stay with Helen forever. Molly finds that it is up to her to save her annoying, bratty sister. When she does rescue Heather, she finds why Heather and Helen are such good friends. You'll just have to read the book to find out the rest.

Tallahassee Higgins

Fine book, though it could have been much better.
Tallahassee Higgins reckon's she's got to be the unhappiest twelve-year-old in the world when her free-spirited, unconventional, flighty young mother Liz leaves her at an aunt and uncle's house while Liz goes off to Hollywood to hit it big. She does poorly in school, her only friend's mother hates her guts, and she has to have things like bedtimes and is made to do her homework. Tallahassee, who is not used to following rules, constantly argues with her Aunt Thelma over them. Every day she hopes Liz will hit it big and send for her.

There are two principal conflicts in the story. The first and most realistic in my opinion is Tallahassee's longing for her mother, longing to be with her. It is obvious to the reader and all the characters except Tallahassee herself that Liz is not going to pick her up anytime within the near future. Quite conceivably Tallahassee will be living with her aunt and uncle for years. Liz, like Kathy in Rainbow Jordan, loves her daughter in her own way but is not capable of taking care of her. And, like Rainbow, Tallahassee doesn't see this and regards her mother as something close to an angel. She's got a lot to learn.

The second conflict is Tallahassee's pondering as to who her father was. Liz never said. Tallahassee only knows that she isn't blonde and beautiful like her mom; she has freckles and big teeth and red hair. "You take after your father," Liz always said. Tallahassee never gave the matter much thought till she saw a photograph of Liz's long-dead childhood sweetheart who used to live in the neighborhood...and he looks just like her.

The young man, who was killed in Vietnam, does in fact turn out to be Tallahassee's father. However I think it would have been a better literary device if (a) Tallahassee hadn't been so sure and (b) Maybe he wasn't her real father after all, maybe it was coincidence. But she asked Liz when Liz came for a very short visit, and Liz told her the truth.

While the book does a good rendering of complicated family relationships and a child's love for her mother, I think it could have used some work...

This is the BEST book!
Tallahassee Higgins is possibly the greatest book out for teens these days. While I have read almost every single one of Mary Downing Hahn's books, I have to say, this is the one I enjoyed the most. It's both realistic and exciting at the same time. I think this will be the one book most teens can relate to. I certainly could!

VERY REALISTIC ! WONDERFUL BOOK
I am a 25 year old playwright. I just read this book and I regret I hadn't read it when I was in grade school. It was very realstic and Mary Downing Hahn is an amazing author who blends suspense with a bit of horror ( somtimes) and adds a whole twist of reality. I recomend this book to grade school children and adults who haven't read t

I will never EVER forget this book. The first time I read TWBB (9 years ago) I couldn't stop thinking about it. Since then I have aquired three copies of it. (all tattered and torn with underlined parts and dogeared pages) Spencer and Lauren's relationship has since inspired me in my own life and in my writing. I think perhaps this was the first book that awoke my love for creating my "own little world" in literature. I devoured it (like Lauren devours romance novels;) I think I have nearly memorized it. I have since read heavier and such books but this book... it has stayed with me as my number one favorite and it always will be. (me and my friend even started writing our favorite quotes on her bedroom wall and by the time her mom noticed it was too late;) All I can say is.. read it... then read it again and again. There will be something new each time. Every girl that read this book will fall hoplessly in love with Spencer and find Lauren to be kindred spirit like I did, every guy will be captivated by Lauren and envious and curious of Spencer and by the time you are done there will be a lump in your throat and tears in your eyes and you will want to find what these two have. This book and it's character has been a great friend to me.

A touching and tender story of love against all obstacles
I first read this book in my sophomore year of high school and it has been one of my favorite books ever since. Every person can find something within this story that speaks to them in a personal and profound way. It is so much more than just a young adult romance. Laura and Spencer deal with issues that most adults have not yet resolved in their own lives. I'm currently a college student and I have read this book at least once every year since I first discovered it. Each time I read it I find something new that I can relate to. It is a tender tale of young love but more importantly it makes a statement about people's struggle with despair, a struggle we have all been through at one point in our lives. This book tells the reader that love is not an easy path to tread but an utimately rewarding one. I will probably continue to read this book every year of my life because it is that powerful and timeless.I have recommended this book to all of my friends, male and female, and not one of them have come away from reading it without being deeply moved and finding a part of themselves in the process. This book is truly one that should be read by everyone.

Awesome
I reccommend anybody who love to read romance can read this book! IT specify every single character details so clearly that you can just know exactly who they are, without even meeting them! THere are so much that is happening in the story that you can just reflect this upon to reality!YOu cant be confused when you read it!
SO much to learn so much to experience it wil change your whole atttitudes on how you think about life and how true love really is! Love is not not a word but its something that is hiding beneath it and this book will tell it all! I will never get tired of this book and cant stand to let it go!
Way to go Mary, you have done a great job in your writing! I admire you greatly!

The journey turns out complety different from what Jesse thought. He comes upon many hard decisions and tough choices he must do for what he thinks is right. Does Jesse make it through? Read the book to find out!!

A book of suspense and mystery.
This book is an amazing book about a young boy named Drew who is visiting his great-aunt Blythe while his parents are in France looking at Roman remains. One day while Drew and his aunt are coming down from the attic Drew finds some marbels under a floorboard in the stairs. That night a figure comes out of the attic into Drew's room named Andrew who is suffering from diptheria claims the marbles are his. Drew switches places with him to travels back to 1910. There he meets Andrew's parents, sister Hannah, and brother Theo. The only way for Drew to return to his time is to win a marble game called ringer. Hahn's story is brethetaking, some psrts emotional and extreamly exciting. I insist you read it.

This is the best book I've read since Harry Potter
In fact I don't no which is better! I'm Ten and I loved this book. Time for Andrew is a story about two kids that are related, both named Andrew and are identical but from 2 totally different time zones. One is from 1910 and the other is from 1990 and they have the exact opposite personalities. One is rough and doesn't get picked on but the other is weak and can't defend himself. When they first meet the Andrew from 1910 is almost dead with Diptheria. The two Andrews switch places in time. Well what the Andrew from 1990 found out is that once the Andrew from 1910 is healed he doesn't want to switch back. To be able to go back to his regular time period he has to play ringer a game he doesn't know how to play and beat the other Andrew. The book is a good mystery and has lots of suspense.

TIME FOR A GOOD STORY!
I loved this book it kept me reading and reading! but when Drew's parents go to "dig" in France Drew is suppose to stay with his very nice and understanding Great Aunt Blythe. But when Great Aunt Blythe brings Drew up in the attic Drew stepped on a loose board and found marbles that they could sell and fix the house up but then Drew finds a note that says:"WARNING THEESE MARBLES BELONG TO ANDREW JOSEPH TYLER IF YOU TAKE THEM YOU WILL BE SORRY. 7 JUNE 1910." But Aunt Blythe takes them anyway and in the night a boy comes into Drews room he is identicle to Drew but has Diptheria. The boys decide to switch places but when they do they seem to forget things from there own times. But Drew falls in love with Andrews sister Hannah. A tomboy that only acts like a lady when Jhon Larkin is around. Drew also adores Andrews brother Theo. Theo is a troublemaker that likes when Andrew gets in trouble with him. Drew also loves Andrews parents and finds himself calling them Mama and Papa. But Andrew did not tell Drew one thing Papa whips the kids with a belt instead of talking about it like his real Dad would when they get in trouble. Then Andrew and Drew make an agreement when Drew wins a game of marbles they will switch back to there own times. Andrews cousin Edward is a real idiot and at the end of the story Drew gives Edward a punch in the nose but does ot know who hit Edward him or Andrew.

Stepping On The Cracks
Stepping On The Cracks is a great book filled with excitement and patriotism. In this book young and courageous kids bump into many surprises along the way. This book takes place during the time of World War II in the tiny town of College Hill. The book focuses on Margaret, Elizabeth, and Gordy. Margaret and Elizabeth are best friends that can't stand Gordy who is, of course, the school bully. The two girls and their families are going through a rough stage that includes a lot of stress and anxiety because both Elizabeth and Margaret have brothers that are fighting in the war. On top of everything going on with their families they have their own personal issues with Gordy; he keeps picking on everyone in the 6th grade, especially Margaret and Elizabeth. Elizabeth, who can sometimes have a bad temper, wants sweet revenge, and she gets even more than what she ever thought she could get. Margaret, who follows along and usually does what Eizabeth wants, gets persuaded and joins in on the whole revenge idea.

Just when Elizabeth and Margaret started to enjoy blackmail they realize that they want to help Gordy. Without much enthusiasm Gordy allows them to help and for the girls, the idea of revenge fades away more and more. Gordy's family wasn't an average one and Margaret and Elizabeth see a different side of him and they learn more about what his family is like "behind the scenes." Both of the girls try to help out and they want to tell someone about Gordy's little secret but they promised not to tell a living soul. Finally, not even Gordy can stand trying to solve his problem so the 3 kids go to a loyal friend, Barbara, who helps out more than what was required.

I think that readers from ages 9- 13 will enjoy reading this book. Stepping On The Cracks teaches many valuable lessons. I definitely recommend this book to people interested in books about friendship and how friendships evolve. The main theme in this book is the importance of trust. Throughout the book, that's a quality that the characters demonstrate.

Great Insights
I have read so many books pertaining to World War II, but none of them has had such an effect on me than Stepping on the Cracks. Stepping on the Cracks is about two young girls named Margaret and Elizabeth living in College Hill. College Hill is a town that has been thrown apart by war- young boys everywhere are off at war, and a few have even already been killed. Jimmy, Maragaret's brother, and Joe, Elizabeth's brother, are among those off at war. The story shows how the events and battles in Europe and Asia affect life back at home in the average American town.

One of the reasons this book has set itself apart from others I have read is that it gives an American child's point of view. Almost all of the other books I have read have been about the Holocaust- from both Jewish and Christian children and adult's point of views. There is hardly a word mentioned about the Holocaust in this book. Battles are mentioned as letters come home, giving blow-by-blow accounts, but the main story is focused on a little war going on in College Hill.

Elizabeth and Margaret's worst enemy is Gordy Smith, and they are trying to get revenge on him for something he did. So they follow him to his "secret hideout" where they find quite a surprise- Gordy has been hiding his brother Stuart, a deserter, from his parents and the rest of the town. When Stuart gets sick, Elizabeth and Margaret join forces with Gordy to help Stuart get better and protect him from his harsh, criminal father.

Perhaps it is simply because of the times we are in now that made me like this book so much. Somehow, all the other books on World War II I have read have always seemed impossible, that such a thing could never happen again. The events of September 11th have proved that such a thing CAN happen again, and to the great country of America nonetheless. This book helped me to understand what could, but hopefully will not, happen to my life. I just hope that it never will.

Great WWII Literature
Stepping on the Cracks, is a marvelous story set in the small town of College Hill during World War II. The major characters in this novel are Margaret and her friend Elizabeth. (Margaret narrates the story.) They both have brothers fighting the war in Europe. They are having their own personal battle with Gordon (Gordy) Smith. He is the worst bully in sixth grade and Margaret is absolutely terrified of him. When his harassment of Margaret and Elizabeth gets increasingly worse, the daring Elizabeth concocts a plan to get even with Gordy. That's when they discover an appalling secret about Gordy. He is hiding a deserter from the army, his brother Stuart! They use this information to blackmail Gordy into being nice to them. Nevertheless, when Stuart becomes ill, the girls try to nurse him back to health and they begin to understand his point of view about the war. They also realize that Gordy has been living in an abusive home, which made him become abusive as well. The author is trying to tell us that a person's environment often instigates his or her actions. However, when Stuart's illness takes a turn for the worse, other people begin to get involved in his plight. The story has another tragic twist before it reaches its moving conclusion.
Anyone who is interested in historical fiction will find this book engaging. I believe that this book is most suitable for all children in grades 5-10. It may also be of special interest to older people who were children during World War II. Cultural background is not a factor when it comes to enjoying this book One of the best features of this book is its map and key at the beginning. They bring a sense of realism to the story by placing everything in a definite location. A part that wasn't so great was the fact that the girls' parents did not understand Stuart's anti-war sentiment. For example, Margaret's mother beat her when she finds out that she was helping a deserter. I also would like to know what happens to Gordy. This is one of the best pieces of historical fiction I have ever read. I highly recommend it.

Daphne's Book
Daphne's Book shows young readers that you should stick up for your friends and that even though you're different you can still be the same. The author takes you into the minds of 10-11 year olds and shows you how their life goes on and different people come into their lives. You can probably find conections between Daphne, Jessica, Hope and other characters. Daphne's Book is a very great book!

A touching story of friendship.
Every one in Jessica's 6th grade class makes fun of Daphne except Jessica. When there's a writing contest the english teacher insisted on putting Jessica and Daphne together. At first Jessica is terrified and upset. Then as she get's to know her better they become very good friends. Daphne has a secret that she told only to Jessica, though keeping it may leed to trouble. This book made me cry and makes you think about how lucky you are. This is definitely a book every one should read.

A interesting book that shows about friendship.
Jessica is a wreak when she finds herself wound up with Daphne the strangest girl in the class as her Write A Book Contest partner. She starts going to her house and develops a close friendship with her and Daphnes sister. Then, Jessica hears a deep secret from Daphne that can be dangerous to Daphne and Hope. Should Jessica keep the secret that could harm Daphne, or break her promise and save her friend? READ THIS BOOK! :> :< :} :{ :) :( :] :[ :6 :8 :%:$ :# :@ :^0;0000>
