Magical Book!
The Maggie B is one of my favorite books! It took me a decade to replace my original copy, but the search was worthwhile. Young or old will love the rich illustrations and beautiful prose.

absolutely enchanting!!!!!
It has been at least 20 years since I read this book...And in my memory has remained my most favorite childhood book. I must have read it over one hundred times...it truly captivated me... I dreamed of being Maggie and having her responsibilities- they seemed so adult yet so much fun! My one and only disappointment with this book is that in the paperback I have, every other page is in black and white. And Irene Haas' beautiful water colors are the main reason I returned to The Maggie B. over and over again. I'm wondering if the hardcover is different or newer copies are different...I'm expecting my first child, and if it's a girl I will definately be reading this to her!!!

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!!
This is one of the most gorgeaus illustrations we have come accross. The story is imaginative and very visual, the illustrations go perfectly and really make you feel like you have just taken a ride on the Maggie B.
I recommend this one!

a book to cherish
When we moved and had to get rid of hundreds of books, this is one of the books I kept. I have read it to my children and to my grandchildren, all of whom adore it. When my 14 year old grandaughter visited recently she pulled it from the shelf and re-read it, saying "I love this book!" It's warm, cozy, accepting, imaginative, enchanting. It prompted them to make houses of their own, either separately or together, which they played in endlessly.

This book shaped the way I feel about personal privacy
I received this book in 1965 when I was 5yrs old. It is a sweet and loving journey of discovering personal space and boundaries... I have always treasured it and am so glad to have found a forum where I can express my love for this book.

Thank you

Ruth Craft is Fabulous!
This was my favorite book as a child. The watercolor painting in it are very vivid, you feel as if you were right there in the story. It is great for young children to teach them about accepting others and that what you see isn't always how a person is. The children in this story let their imaginations run wild about Carrie Hepple and the sorts of things she does in her garden. Perhaps she is a witch! When forced to go into her garden to find thier ball, they find out what a sweet lady she really is! I highly recomend this to anyone!

Lots of Trading Fun.....
Author, Beatrice Schenk de Regniers and illustrator, Irene Haas are back with a reworking of their 1957 timeless treasure, and Was It A Good Trade? is as fresh and entertaining today as it was forty-five years ago. Based on an old folk song, Ms de Regniers lilting text is full of rhyme, rhythm, and fun, and preschoolers will enjoy singing the repetitive refrain along with you, "Was it a good trade?/Was it a bad trade?/Was it a good trade-/hey?" Ms Haas' charming, bright and colorful artwork captures and highlights the text beautifully, and is rich in expressive detail, humor, and vibrant eye-catching patterns. With a delightfully silly twist at the end to tickle your funny bone, Was It A Good Trade? is an engaging classic to share with friends and family now, and future generations in the years to come.

The World Below Eye Level
Ever since I was a kid, I have been fascinated with miniature
life among the reeds of grass, and small dolls/ objects in
general. SUMMERTIME SONG'S illustrations allow me to
participate in that world. It's a thrill each time I pick it up!

can't go wrong with this "Song"
I only had this book a short time before giving it as a gift, but I am in basic agreement with other positive reviewers. although difficult to describe, the illustrations are of colors whose similarities, softness, and subdued nature make the characters "difficult" to see (or fun to find[?])-- this may mean some children will perhaps miss some things if they're not pointed out. anyone can see (or "not" see)what i mean if they enlarge the cover(by clicking on it). yes, i, too, enjoyed the surreal diversion brought back to reality when the little girl returns her grandma's long-lost doll to her. charm and magic in just the right amounts.

A Summertime Song by Irene Haas
This is a charming tale about a little girl who has magical adventures in her grandmother's garden. The book is beautifully illustrated, and the text is both simple yet poetic. Irene Haas recounts the wondrous happenings in the story, in which a little girl loses herself in the magic of the garden. The childhood world of magic and "adult" reality meet when she finds her grandmother's lost doll in the garden. This book is a must for "children" of all ages.

BEAUTIFUL ILLUSTRATIONS
Beautiful watercolor illustrations are the highlight of this charming book. For some reason, it's out-of-print, but I highly recommend it for children ages about 6-11. Story of a travelling troupe of performers, who, during the course of their shows, manage to grant wishes. They are followed by Penelope, a bumbling fairy godmother who has just one wish left to grant before retirement, but the Little Moon Theater always beats her to it. Charming all around. By the way, a musical theatrical version, composed by Joel Gelpe, is available for production. Inquire of TADA! Theater Company in NY, NY or the Albuquerque Civic Light Opera.
