Bought it years ago
I bought this book years ago on a business trip. I have hundreds of investment books but I keep this one in my first spot. When I buy a new book I place it in order of merit. This thing has never moved from #1. I couldn't believe the price, I bought it on clearance for 5 bucks. After I purchased it I went back the next day and there were none left. I have been looking for another copy ever since because I don't want to loan out my only one. Book price is now 160. That price appreciation alone is better than almost any other investment I have owned in years. My advise is pay up and try to get one if you can. It has been worth it's weight in gold for me. Great Great book.
A Very Worthwhile Read
I've never invested money or even read any other book on investing. However, for some reason I feel like this is the only book I should ever want to read on the subject. The author's simple portrait of cherished Swiss knowledge pulses with the same quality that other things that interest me do. (I have bad grammar yes, but who gives an f?)
Principles For Life
This isn't just a book on investing. Each of these axioms can be applied to any life situation as well. For example: "When the boat starts sinking, jump" can be applied to any situation you find yourself involved in like a friendship or romance, or any business dealing.

I bought each of my three children a copy of this book!
I saw Max Gunther on a late night talk show when he was prmoting the book. his informal, casual discussion highlights from his research really impressed me. I purchased the book a few days later. The kind of information in this book is whatever person in their late 20s should know. what he wrote about 25 years ago still stands today. Great stuff!
Anyone interested in probability should read this book
Intuition tells us (as does this book) that all things are not equal when it comes to the way that seemingly random occurences affect individuals. Some people are just luckier than others in terms of how these events appear and play out in their favor. Gunther takes an open-minded approach to the question of luck, and interviews unquestionably lucky and unlucky individuals to see what the common factors are. His analysis includes the expected (lucky people have more opportunities by virtue of their personalities), but he isn't afraid to talk about findings that don't fall nicely into a causal, classical model. Why should a person's state of mind matter in determining their luck, above and beyond how it changes their outward behavior? This book doesn't present the whole answer to that question, but it does lay a good foundation for giving the matter some serious thought.
Good introduction to an elusive element
Believe me. This is one book anybody who feels fate has give them a hard kick must have. This book will tell you why your less 'talented' friend did better than one of your apparently more talented ones. I'd read a lot of self-help books of all kind before I read this but this one ranks right there with Think and Grow Rich and How to win Friends and Influence People. It tells you exactly what luck is and how you can make it work for you. It is obvious that the author did extensive research before writing this. A unique thing in this book is the study of comparative luck-beliefs like probability. This book may not turnaround somebody's luck at once, but will be a great help in understanding luck and improving once chances in life. As a bonus, it is factually entertaining!

doom wind
It started out slightly slow but picked up quickly. Once it did I was reluctant to put it down. I found myself wishing there was more to read.
suspenseful
This story centers around a comet passing near the earth. Though there is little danger of it actually hitting the earth, it comes close enough to disrupt weather patterns. It causes period of heat and stiflng lack of any breeze. A lightly regarded scientist develops an explanation for this, and predicts an end to the Great Calm. It is to be followed by five atmospheric disturbances of increasing intensity. The first is to be a very light breeze; the last could have the strength of a superhurricane engulfing the northern hemisphere. Some people believe the scientist; many do not. As a weather hobbyist, I found little reason to suppose that a comet's near miss would bring these results. Aside from that, I found the story very enjoyable to read. As the first three "waves" prove the scientist correct, the suspense really mounts in anticipation of the last two. The characters, while not unforgettable, are sufficiently depicted for you to care what happens to them. Though not as great as LUCIFER'S HAMMER, this is an above-average story; I can recommend it.
