I am 51 years old. I read this book about 40 years ago and it still resonates in my mind. I remember magical pictures in my head as I read it, pictures of jungle, great elephant herds, and being far, far above the ground as I rode the wild elephants with the main character, a poor young orphan boy. This book created a lifelong facination with elephants and India. I now have a grandson of 10 mos, and I want to make this book available to him when he grows older. For years I searched on and off in local libraries where I was living to try to find it with no luck, but finally found it here at Amazon. I can now read it again. I know that it has built up in my mind to an impossible degree. It probably won't be as wonderful as I remember, but just touching it will bring back special memories of sitting on the screened in front porch in my little Georgia home town, reading about exotic places and people, and learning to travel outside of my own time and place.

This classic children's book tells the story of a Welsh Corgi puppy who gets lost in the woods and is adopted by a mother fox. He learns to survive in the wild as a fox, but is found at Christmas by humans and adopted by a little girl. The Corgi later goes back to the woods to help his injured fox mother, who eventually comes to live at the farm woodshed under the care of the Corgi's human family.
