Inspirational, involving, rewarding reading
Socrates' Way: Seven: Master Keys To Using Your Mind To The Utmost by Ronald Gross is a marvelous and unique "self-help" book that draws on the wisdom of the philosophical genius Socrates himself. Centering on seven great precepts espoused by this wise man, ranging from "Know Thyself"; to "Speak the Truth"; and "Strengthen Your Soul," Socrates' Way is an inspirational, involving, rewarding reading and a superbly presented reading for anyone seeking personal or professional self-improvement.

Socrates: Alive and Well and More Pertinent Than Ever
Never mind the "how to" and "dummies" books; this is the ultimate life and how to understand it book. With Ron Gross as Socrates incarnate we are privleged to experience wisdom of the ages brought relevant to the present times. A must for any thinking individual.

Examining your life
For eons Socrates has been an inspiration to legions of thinkers. Now, in the 21st century, it is possible to become reacquainted with this great philosopher through the person of Ron Gross. Ron Gross has not only studied Socrates, but he has integrated Socrates' personality and approach to life in his own character. For example, it is not unusual to see Ron walking the streets of Manhattan in toga and sandals.

It is possible today, through Ron's writing and his public appearances, to meet an incarnation of Socrates living in the modern world. This is what Ron's new book, Socrates' Way does. It brings Socrates into the modern world, making his work approachable and relevant to our lives.

Socrates' Way sets the stage for you to examine your life. It was Socrates who said that the unexamined life is not worth living. If nothing else, this book at least sets the tone for you to examine your own life, to look at all things with a questioning eye, and to not take things for granted. In a world where we are overloaded with information, much of which is questionable, if not outright mythological, it is particularly important to be able to analyze what we hear and see and to sift between truth and artifice.

This is a highly readable book which I recommend for anyone who is on the path of self-improvement.

Preparation and motivation to lead the scholarly life
This book is a "must read" for recovering academics as well as other individuals who would choose to pursue scholarly interests outside of formalized research institutions. This book offers common sense advice and uncommon sources of resources that are invaluable to both the beginning and experienced scholar. Each chapter ends with an insightful anecdote about the challenges faced and hurdles overcome by other independent scholars. The tone of the book is both motivating and empowering, yet low-key and scholarly. The content of the book includes methods and resources, yet the style of dissemination is far more elegant than that found in a typical "how to" book.

If you don't have an academic background and are unsure of your ability to succeed as an independent scholar, you should read this book. Passion, persistence, and the pursuance of craftsmanship are open to anyone who would choose to travel this path.

If you have an academic background and are considering leaving the ivory tower, you should read this book. Despite the self-important messages that you have been inundated with on campus, there exists a world of honorable and respected scholars outside of the university system with whom you can share intellectual companionship and challenge.

An excellent glipse into an elite Werhmacht unit
Panzer Grenadier Division: Grossdeutschand is something of a pictorial history of one of the German Wehrmacht's most illustrious units. Often overshadowed by the accomplishments and atrocities by her sister units of the Waffen SS, it is generally agreed by both historians and contemporaries that the Grossdeutschand divisions fought with the same levels of elan, without the stains of dishonor. Throught the illustrations, Horst Scheibert captures every aspect of the brutal was in Russia, from the lowes in the fighting to the forced marches and rearguard actions. This book is a must for both modeler and history buffs.

Good USMLE review book
This book is not sufficient for course study, but is a very good choice for Step 1 preparation. Anatomy is a fairly low yield topic on the Step 1 exam and this is a good, concise review of clinically relevant anatomy.

CLINICALLY SIGNIFICANT ANATOMICAL CONCEPTS
Anatomy is a subject that might seem endless......until you get this book. When I bought it I knew finally why was anatomy useful in the everyday clinical practice. Friendly, with LOTS of excellent pictures, key essential concepts, and extremely well organized, information just diffuses toward your brain. Also, a USMLE step 1 must have....when I was answering it, I thanked God the book had fell in my hands.

An invaluable anatomy review book!
This book is perfect for USMLE review. Dr. Dudek cuts through all of the fluff (and in gross anatomy, there is a LOT of fluff!), and focuses in on commonly tested concepts. I also recommend his high-yield embryology book for board review.

Tony Robbins?
I could not stand this book. It used verbs like it was going out of style. It tries to make you beileve that you about embark upon an amaxing adventure of learn where discoveries will lead to ultimate fulfillment and success :) . It's 75% fluff to make you believe that all life problems will be solved if only you could learn how to learn. It was like Anthony Robbins wrote it. Motivational B.S.. Some of it was good, if you siffed long enough you could get a couple good nuggets out of this one, that's why I gave it 2 stars instead of a deserving 1. But it was so anoying in how it was written. It was almost so bad I had a hard time paying attention. Awful motivational and persuasive crap. Do waste you money buying this. Don't even think about buying this, because even that is a waste of time. This book isn't even good enough for my pet hamster to tear up and use as bedding.

On Par With Emotionally Charged Learning
I have read many learning books for my graduate studies -- I just finished Emotionally Charged Learning by Eric Schiffer which was one of my favorites. I also like this one very much because it equally is fun to read! If I also had to train a group of people or point an organization towards achieving its goals as a learning organization, I would rely on both booksas my bible. Great writing style, great examples!

Great book for returning students
This book opened me up to many new studying and memory concepts. The mind-mapping is very helpful when doing papers or reports. A must read for anyone going back to college.

Covers the basics well but has been poorly edited.
Gross covers plenty of territory in this primer for new students but the condescending tone grated on my nerves. Obviously the editor of the book failed to use Gross's theories since the editing is not up to snuff.

This book taught me a lot about how I think.
Ronald Gross clearly knows what he is writing about, and has the ability to write about it in ways that anyone can understand. I learned more about the way I and others learn from this book than in numerous psychology classes. But the one thing that I got from this book is an enthusiasm for learning. The basic premise being that you do not have to go to university to get a degree, but rather that you have the choice of what and how you will learn. Your University of the World, makes you just as educated as any degree. This jewel should be embraced by everyone. My only disappointment with this book is that it is of uneven quality. Some of the explanations and exercises are excellent insights into the human mind. Others appear to be withour merit and without explanation.

Peak Learning Key for the Information Age
Ronald Gross is a master teacher who understands the fundamental value of learning. Peak Learning offers the building blocks to a lifelong learning adventure. I recommend this book for anyone looking to make order out of the chaos caused by the information overload of our times.

Practical Laboratory Information
Gross, Steinman, and Rapini have written the first Mohs surgery textbook for the ASMS crowd (American Society of Mohs Surgery) -it seems that most, if not all, of the contributors are of the non-fellowship-trained variety. Unlike Dr. Mohs' or Dr. Mikhail's textbooks, it focuses less on actual outcomes of treatment for different diagnoses than it does on practical aspects of a Mohs practice. It covers needed equipment to reimbursement issues to training a Mohs lab technician. The chapters are short (some at 2 pages) and the text is not dense. Its treatment of individual tumors is very cursory. A better text for pertinent discussion of cutaneous tumors encountered in a Mohs practice is Mary Maloney's Surgical Dermatopathology.

Where this book really shines is its discussion of the nuts and bolts of running a Mohs laboratory. Chapter 11 "Cryostat and Cryostat Technique: Obtaining Quality Mohs Slides" shows several different techniques of freezing and mounting specimens (including the glass slide technique which is the best) in several pages of photographs. Chapter 12 "Mohs Slides: Trouble Shooting and Quality Assurance" has a nifty table of slide problems and probable sources of trouble. In addition, photographs document actual cutting of tissue on the cryostat blade and show common errors. Another excellent photo series shows mounted tissue on slides (thin vs. thick sections, venetian blind appearance of tissue due to dirty and poorly lubricated microtome, etc). Dr. Rapini has also included a chapter on normal cutaneous histology with excellent pictures.
In summary, the laboratory and pathology sections of the book are worth reading for Mohs fellows and technicians. The rest of the material is better addressed elsewhere.

I hate this book!
I think this was the most boring book ever

A child's view of the Johnstown Flood & aftermath FOR KIDS!
This is a gentle, grade school book, written for young readers...NOT a text research book. As such, it must be viewed in a special light: will it scare the reader, is it clear, is there a moral, is it factual? The answer may be yest to all the above, except, it need not frighten the reader.

The one chapter that describes the floodwaters and the vanishing of a family member is done by following the mother of the clan, and seeing that she survives AND saves another young innocent life along the way.

Yes, facts and figures are put into the mouths of visiting neighbors, who fill in the historical perspective of Why the dam broke and what was or wasn't done to prevent the tragedy, but the reader is not hit over the head with it. These are woven into the story as the rain clouds gather.

Of seven chapters, at least the first four lead up to the break, throwing in pictures of rural life, chores, age or innocence vs. working age, male/female gender roles, and the presence of death and illness in the family before the flood occurs.
The last three deal with the aftermath, the psychological impact of the massive loss, and the hope of a new life joining the family. The book ends on a positive, hopeful note, by having the main character resolve her unhappy feelings and welcome the new family member. A second member is depressed with having to help with the massive cleanup, and he delivers the depressing numbers and tale of the fires and drownings. So, the death is off camera, but it's impact is felt by the brother...NOT the main character, Christina.

As an introductory history book, it is right for begining readers, but if you are familiar with the story or looking for a scholarly documentation, this is not the one for you..instead, try The Johnstown Flood...part of the reforms and improvements series by Gallagher & company.

But, for the price, and what it is, this book services its YOUNG audience well.
