My favorite part of this book is when the authors take one outfit (say, white blouse and black pants) and show it with different accessories. This tactic really illustrates what a difference accessories can make. It also makes me look at my own wardrobe and think how I can achieve different "looks" with accessories rather than buying different clothes.
The other gem of this book is the accessory checklist at the back of the book, divided into categories: basic gear, ornamentation, work, evening, summer, and winter. These two pages are worth the price of the book alone.

A driving piece of work that sets up Miller's continual theme of personal versus business ethics.

The story is unique, the conflicts are twisting, and the ending is shocking. I've yet to read many novels or plays that contained all of these features.
I think what makes this play great is that it is written so a child can read it, yet the theme can relate to anyone young or old.

The book contains four poems, each of which is preceded by a short essay explaining how Stewart came to write it. Each poem is drawn from Stewart's real life experiences. The poems are as follows: "The Top Step in the Hotel in Junin," about a safety hazard at a hotel in Argentina; "The Aberdares!", about an African mountain range; "I'm a Movie Camera," about a camera he bought so that his daughters could film a family trip to Africa; and "Beau," about a beloved dog.
The poems are not particularly deep or impressive from a literary standpoint, but they have a certain folksy charm. Some sample lines from "The Aberdares!": "The North Pole's rather chilly, / Those who've been there all will tell. / There's lots of snow and lots of ice / And lots of wind as well." "Beau" is sentimental and funny, and, I must admit, reminded me of a particular dog who was part of my family. At 32 pages long, this is not a very substantial volume. Recommended for fans of Stewart.

As a practical guide to building a wardrobe I found it frustrating. The clothes shown are lovely but seem very geared toward people with a lot of money and/or time who can afford to purchase chothes at exclusive boutiques (or comb through sales racks & thrift stores). Many items shown also come from private collections. As a small, pear-shaped mom with a limited budget and no time I just couldn't imagine how I'd ever build such a wardrobe.
Sooo if you want a lovely book to look at, this is great. If you want a quick, easy to use workbook for any budget, look elsewhere.
I continue to dream of a simple workbook that will help a woman with budget, time, and figure limitations build a great wardrobe. (Feel free to email recommendations).

'1st To Die' tells of a female homicide detective's quest to catch a serial killer who is murdering newly weds. Patterson gradually introduces three more female characters who eventually form the Women's Murder Club.
Patterson's style is very easy reading and the short, straight-to-the-point chapters allow the story to flow at just the right pace.
The ending is nothing short of brilliant (although a little unbelievable at times) providing many twists and turns (it had me so gripped that I read the last 200 pages in one evening).
The only drawback I can think of is that the novel's short chapters don't allow enough character development, but that is easily forgivable seeing that the story's main drive is the riveting plot.
As I mentioned, this was my first James Patterson book but I will be reading many more.
