Lots of Tears
I read the entire book on my flight from FL to NY. My husband served with the 101st in Vietnam and while reading the book, I felt as though all the FEELINGS behind all of the stories my husband had told me, where there in the pages of the book. Anyone who has loved or lost a Vietnam veteran or anyone who has wondered what it was like for these young men, what really was going on in their hearts and minds... HAS to read this book. A lot of vietnam vets don't want to share their thoughts, memories or tears... I thank Pete Griffin for sharing his.

A real personal side.
What a wonderful book. A deeply, personal memoir of a soldier's time in Vietnam, his commitment to the brothers who served in the Korean War and the love of his family. Unlike commerical books that have been poured over by professionals, this book is emotional and permeated with love and commitment. As a soldier, Mr. Griffin is obviously committed to his country and fellow soldiers. In my observation over the years, combat soldiers are overly generous in their views toward their leaders. This book is no exception. Mr. Griffin is very charitable toward his leaders, who in my opinion, were not as mindful of their soldier's welfare as they could have been. A wonderful memior and I hope it will be prommoted to many colleges and universities who are teaching about the Vietnam War. I personally appreciated the time and energy such a book must have taken. I'm sure it must have been cathartic for Mr. Griffin. The Vietnam story needs to be told and this book does it in a very different and personal way. I hope many will purchase this book as it is a must read.

This book is a must read for all vetrans
This is something new for me,to set down and write a book review because I have not read more than maybe two books in my whole life. I was with peter in the 101st Airborne Div.in 1965 and 1966.in Co.A 2sd/502sd. pete went to viet Nam in a weapons platoon but was soon changed to a rifle paltoon so pete was there with the rest of us line dogs.So read this book and let it open your soul, you can,t get over the fears till you get over tears. Buying this book is a sure thing
This is a well-written book about numbers, life, probability, humor, trading, and you-name-it, disguised as a series of articles about gambling odds. If you are a gambler, you must read this book. If you are not a gambler and you don't buy it, you're taking your chances anyway!

Merv Griffin Book of People
I especially enjoyed the chapter on Jane Fonda, exposing what the government and Hollywood tried to pull in her Vietnam protest/activist days!

An essential to your core library for Neurology practice.
This two volume text is an essential reference and mandatory reading for any Neurology resident or Staff Physician. I had the opportunity to train under the instruction of many of the contributors to this text. I found it to be rich in detail and clinical expertise. I refer to it often in my practice. It is concise and easily understood.

Excellent combinations of basics & updated research
Before this book was published, Wolf & Tauber's book was the only good reference I had. Plummer's new book has a thorough review of basic principles, very well updated parts on current manufacturing equipments (Wolf's book also has extensive coverage in this respect). The best part in my opinion is oxidation & diffusion parts where the authors are one of the leaders in current research. The book not only focuses on the specific details, but also gives an integrated view of the whole CMOS fabrication process, which I enjoyed a lot.

I strongly recommend this book for students who want to learn basics of IC fabrication and also professional engineers who needs a good and well updated reference.

An essential tool for professionals in education
The word "learning" has become very prominent in contemporary education terminology. Official policy document issued by organizations like UNESCO, or even European Union and US goverment publications have gradually replaced the words "education" or "training" with "learning". This fact has created some confusion among educators, curriculum design experts, and of course students. That is why a book such as "The theory and practice of learning" can be of great help to all of us who are involved in the process of education. It is a clear written comprehensive book that examines globally all aspects of the learning process (theory and practice). The book presents not only the views and opinions of the writers but it also demonstrates the most important features from theories of great educationalists who have influenced our society. I believe that reading this book will definetely help to understand the current trends in education. Congratulations!

These Places Are Great
Having worked in the heavy industrial electrical/mechanical field for the past 26 years, I have worked at many facilities similiar to those illustrated in this book. I love them! You can say what you'd like regarding their environmental impact, but I can tell you, these are great places to work. The process is usually very interesting, and the customer most always demands a quality job. So...there's some polution, but not one of you reading this review can say that your purchasing habits, and style of life has not contributed to the very images that you would now turn your nose up at. Sure, the EPA would love to have you believe that they are cleaning up the world, when the fact is, they are only driving real industry out of the USA, only to produce the same if not more 'polution' over the borders. And with our governments blessing. 'Still buying the same products, are you not? Look and see where they were made next time! It makes me sad to see these big industrial sites closed down. I love the book, because I can show my kids, and my grandkids the types of places that used to exist in this country_The type of places that has enabled us to go around as the police department of the world, and enforce what WE deem as right on every continent of the earth. It would have made a nice closing statement though, if you would have included an arial shot of the Pulp & Paper Mill that produced the pages of this book. I am assuming that is, that they were made in the USA.

Will Work for Peace is a triumph of poetic Davids.
As one of the poets featured in Will Work for Peace, one might expect me to be a bit biased, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Most poets work in a virtual vacuum, only tenuously connected to each other by the occasional workshop or shared membership in a 'poetry society'. When Brett Axel first approached me for a submission to an anthology he was considering, the names Marge Piercy, Lyn Lifshin, Moshe Bennaroch and so many others were abstractions to me as a fledgling poet. I knew these tremendous writers were 'out there' somewhere, beating down doors with their words and keeping a struggling artform alive. But to think that someday I would ever share a credit with these dynamic modern poets would be a pipe dream at best. It is through the sincere efforts of Brett Axel that many newer voices like mine have an extraordinary opportunity to appear with Pulitzer Prize winners and other poetic heavyweights. By way of an honest review, however, I will say this- not everything in this book will be to your particular liking. I myself came across some works that did not move me in the way the author may have intended. Some imagery can be raw and visceral, using shock value in place of craft at times. But to ignore those voices would be an even more shocking turn of events, so praise be to the editor for not sacrificing his vision to a senseless conformity. As Pete Seeger so aptly put it in his quote, trying to read all these poems at one time would be like trying 'to swallow Manhattan whole'. I say to you- buy this book, read this book, but understand that it's what you do after reading this book that will ultimately define who you could be. Poetry is alive and well, and lives in the blunt pages of Will Work for Peace.

You have to read this book!
Brett Axel visited my Church and I bought a copy of Will Work For Peace from him, not for poetry, but because I care about working for peace. I started reading through it thinking It'd just go on my shelf and that'd be the end of it, but the book grabbed me and kept me rivited. If I had known that poetry was this alive I'd have been into poetry. I've been reading some of the poems to my friends who also didn't think poetry was important and they are saying the same thing. Fantastic! There's no way to get through this book without having your old mindsets challenged. It's funny, powerful, sad, and uplifting. A book that deserves to be read by everyone. A book that really can make the world a better place!

Thumbs Up
Just amazing start to finish! I like the disregard for fame used in putting the book together. That great poems got in even if they were writtenby nobodys. Look at Roger Bonair-Agard's poem on page 74. Shortly after Will Work For Peace came out he won Slam Nationals, becoming Slam Champion of 1999, which will be getting him lots of offers. But Zeropanik Press didn't need to be told he was good by an award. They could tell by his writing! Good for them and good for all of us because Will Work For Peace is a literary milestone. It's a new standard for all future anthology editors to try to live up to. Thumbs up to Brett Axel and Thumbs up to Zeropanik Press for their guts and integrty.

Hit & Run: How Jon Peters and Peter Guber Took Sony for a Ride in Hollywood

The funniest non-fiction book you will ever read
I read this book three years ago and I'm still laughing.

Griffin & Masters have created THE required reading book on everything that is wrong with Hollywood. They were able to tell the inside stories of multi-million dollar deals and make them understandable. Jon Peters, a barely literate hairdresser who happened to be friends with Barbara Streisand, and his business partner Peter Guber schmoozed their way through the 80s and were picked by Sony to run their newly acquired Columbia/Tri-Star pictures. Billions of dollars in losses later (Last Action Hero, I'll Do Anything) they got kicked out.

It is really an incredible story. If it was fiction, you'd think it completly impossible to believe, but it is all true.

A compelling tale of a great Hollywood tragedy
The authors have done an amazing job of compiling an incredible amount of information and assimilating it in a well-thought out and informative manner. The story of how Jon Peters and Peter Guber were able to so completely screw Sony is unbelievable. Yet, Kim Masters and Nancy Griffin boil all the subplots down into a manageable and compelling story that is completely accessible. It isn't often that a non-fiction book reads like a novel. An absolute must-read for anyone interested in the film industry.

Fascinating illustration of testosterone on steroids!
Feeling like a skinny wimp brushing sand off your face? Instead of Charles Atlas reach for a copy of "Hit and Run". This brillantly written account of Peter Guber and Jon Peters assent in Hollywood culiminating with their co-chairmenship of Sony Pictures is a true how-to for anyone short on personal chutzpah. Details of Guber and Peters personal interaction skills in- cluding verbal assaults and tantrums on desktops will get even the meekest reader's blood pumping and send them off in search of their own victim. As a business professional I found Griffin and Masters' book chronicling the pathetic waste and destruction left behind by this duo to be one of the best business books I've read in a long time. And I found the depiction of their in-your-face management style to be a refreshing respite from mild-mannered Dilbert. In addition to a primer on the Sony company and the highly competitive consumer electronics industry the book is chock full of juicy tidbits on the 'stars'. (Check out Jack Nicholson's advice to Kim Basinger on the set of 'Batman' concerning her 'performance' with Jon Peters.) Possessing extreme self-confidence, tenacity, and greed, Jon Peters and Peter Guber exemplify the best and worst of achieving the American Dream in "Hit and Run."
