I preferred this to Curt Sampson's biography
I had previously read pretty much everything I could find about Hogan, including Curt Sampson's recent biography. I picked up a copy of this much older work with low expectations and surprisingly found it totally enjoyable. It's full of little details that you won't find elsewhere. For the period of Hogan's career from the start through 1960 or so, it's invaluable. I've seen it criticized by more recent authors, but it certainly comes with ringing endorsements from the people who knew Hogan most intimately.

I can get you this book!

Hogan, as told by someone who knew and worked with him
Hogan was a taciturn straightforward person who scrapped to get out of poverty. This book tells his story with respect and without speculation. The facts of his life speak volumes. The analysis of his game is fascinating for the golfer and fan alike.

An Avoidable Tragedy
I have the utmost respect for the soldiers who risk their lives to defend our country and our way of life. But... when one looks at the fact about this so-called "accident" it is clear that those in charge were so full of war-time blood-lust to kill the "enemy." Who they killed were 290 innocent travelers on a commercial airline.

Of course, when one is responsible for such needless death, they need to create another reality in their heads so they can get by. But, the truth is there and it is important for all Americans to know what our military does in our name.

God bless the hard working and intelligent soldier. Rogers is not one of these men.

Not a bad read...in fact, not a read at all.
The epitome of history as fictional narrative. Buyer beware.

A very real read
As a sailor who was onboard the Vincennes (CG-49, the Checkmate Cruiser) during this incident I have the utmost respect for the Captain Rogers and the actions he took. The book is an actual account of what happened as taken from the log books kept in CIC and from his memory. The story even made it to Unsolved Mysteries which brought up some key points of unclothed bodies already bloated with 30 minutes of the downing of the aircraft. Something that would take a couple of hours even in the warm waters of the Gulf. Every opportunity was given prior to the firing of the missiles for the plane to change its heading..with permission to fire at 40 miles, Capt Rogers waited until it was inside of 10. I strongly recommend this book to all military members and Americans at hea
