Wonderfuld book and worthy successor to "The Ghatti's Tale"
A must read for anyone who enjoyed "The Ghatti's Tale" trilogy or someone looking for something new and different.

Starting sixteen years after "Exiles' Return", Doyce Marborn's and Jenret Wycherley's marrage is on shakey ground. On their twins, Diccon and Jenneth, sixteeth birthday, Doyce resigns as Seeker General and announces she will join her husband and children on their trip to Sunderlies.

The Sunderlies: land of exiled outlaws and those seeking a new life. This land is very different from mainland Canderis.

As the large party travels to port to leave for the Sunderlies, there are mishaps. Accidents or sabotage? Questions abond. While waiting for the ship to be readied, the twins are Chosen by young twin Ghatten. Diccon by Kwee and Jenneth by fat, shy Pw'eek.

On the sea trip to the Sunderlies, trouble strikes. Jenneth and Pw'eek are sweept overboard during a storm.

But this is only the tip of Greeno's masterpiece. For the Whycherley trade in the Sunderlies is being drained, very slightly, of its funds. There are old wrongs that fanatics feel must be revenged. Plus, there is political intrique to boot. The question becomes who will survive the voyage.

Greeno does a wonderful job of filling story with familiar chacters from the first trilogy and a slew of new characters from the Sunderlies.

It was worth the wait....
I really enjoyed this book. I read the first three Seeker books several years ago and they are certainly necessary to understand this one. Many of the same characters appear and she doesn't devote much space to background history. While I loved the Ghatti's Tail trilogy, I always felt that they started off very slow. This book does not--I was happy to jump right into the story for once.

If you've read the Trilogy, you won't be disappointed
I was thrilled to find this book after reading Greeno's "The Ghatti's Tale" Trilogy. I was, however, sad to find that it picks up sixteen years after "Exile's Return" (I want to read about those years!) but I wasn't disappointed in the book as a whole, it was great! It of-course, brings back all of those memorable characters you've gotten to know so well, and also introduces many other new and intersting humans and Ghatti alike. Greeno keeps up the sense of suspense and adventure, with some humor and touching moments as well. A great read, I am anxiously awaiting Book #2!

Pretty good.
I think that this book is for the most part not so bad. It was as well thought out and as detailed as her past books, and the plot was just as enjoyable. However the ending was rather disappointing, and I consider it a very frustrating one if this is the very last book that she plans to write in the series.

I was a trifle dissapointed.
This book seemed to be explaining a lot of things you've wondered throughout the triology. It was nice to go back in time to see how the first Seeker pair met. I wish Doyce did a little more. I found the group who were trying to wipe out gleaners as scary as Vessy.

More. More. More.
I have just gobbled up the trilogy. The 3rd book leaves enuf loose ends to continue the tale. Lets have a trilogy of trilogies! And I generally don't like science fiction: a friend recommended it so strongly that I had to try the first one.

A must read for animal/scifi/fantasy lovers!!
I originally bought this book because of the cat on the cover. (I had just finished reading "Tailchaser's Song", "The Wild Road", and "Book of Night With Moon" and needed another cat-related fantasy book, and quick!) I am SO happy I found this book. I read the trilogy within a matter of weeks and was ecstatic to find "Sunderlies Seeking" on the shelf soon thereafter. I strongly recommend this series to anyone who loves fantasy fiction, especially if they are an animal lover as well. The characters, both human and Ghatti alike are all knowable and memorable. The series is full of suspense, adventure, laughter, sadness and I am sure most readers, like myself, didn't want them to end. Greeno really weaves the reader into the world of Methuen and it is hard to leave. I am anxiously awaiting Book Two of Ghatten's Gambit!

You have GOT to get this series!!
I hadn't read epic fantasy for years, and had gotten stuck in a morbid rut of True Crime when I picked up this first book of the series. I was originally drawn by the picture of what appeared to be a cat on the cover, then dove in. Bear in mind, I had lost my 32nd friend to AIDS and nothing was able to let me "escape". I stayed up all night and read. If you love cats, you will love ghattas. They are much larger, bond telepathically to the individual they choose (and nip) as a ghatten, and then that pair becomes a "Seeker Veritas" - literally a circuit-riding judge pair. The fact that the ghattas can read the "litigants'" minds helps the human to make accurate decisions. Gayle Greeno is the finest author on this planet. She paints "word pictures" that literally take you "away". You can see and hear and feel what she wants you to feel. You will find yourself transported to that world, you will be amazed at her ability to weave several "strands" at the same time, you will learn to love the characters, and her command of the English language is like painting a "masterpiece". I used to think H.P. Lovecraft was the most complex and intense author that ever lived - I was wrong. If you buy this first one, you might as well buy the rest of the series at the same time, because "buyer's remorse" will hit you BIG TIME if you don't. Whether you like cats or not, this series is fantastic!!

awesome
This book is awesome! for any cat lover or mystery lover this book is for you! Greeno will ensare you with every twist!

Book is lacking.
I have read the previous four books in the series. Greeno is a long winded author with scattered plots. The plot in this fifth book no long was realistic nor well planned. It seemed to me that the author was merely trying to write another book in the series instead of having planned anything. In fact, I was not able to finish the book. I will not spend any more time or money on a Gayle Greeno book.

Good but not her best
I liked this book, but the ending just felt very rushed. Doyce, Khar, Rawn, and hubby seemed just thrown in with no real point. I think the idea of moving to new characters and evolving the world in time a bit was excellent and most of the story went along well, except the cameos by Doyce and crew. Better to have focused on the twins and the Edwin plot lines. The ending was just unsatisfactory. Loose ends were tied up that could have been left for a later book, later plots, but instead got thrown in without hardly any supporting story line.

An Excellent Cat Fantasy
Let's face it, good (fantasy) books about cats are few and very far between. The series (The Ghatti's Tale / Ghatten's Gambit) is a sure winner. The "characters" are charming and well developed with interesting and involved story lines. As an adult I can appreciate the autor's style, but I feel the books will appeal to a younger audience as well. When reading these books you can't help wishing you had one of these cats. I would say they are on a par with Tad Williams, Gabriel King, Diane Duane, etc. I am anxiously awaiting the latest book in the series.

ok after first 250 pages!
hi! im 14, and have read this book. I didnt read the first, but maybe i will. I agreee this book was VERY slow in the beginning. But after about the first 250 pages or so, it got better. I think I might read the third.

Painfully slow
I enjoyed the first book, Finders-Seekers. The concept of the mind links between the Seekers Veritas and their ghatta bondmates is very interesting.

Compared with the first book, Mind-Speakers' Call was a big disappointment. If you thought Finders-Seekers was slow-paced, don't even start this one. Greeno could have cut at least 100 pages without hurting the story.

I can't imagine why everyone has so much confidence in Doyce, the star Seeker in the story. What did she actually do in this book? Just spend the entire book wallowing in self-pity, and drag Jenret down with her. And what did the ghattis do? They did some long distance communication, and they kept secrets from their bondmates.

I am not sure I will read the third book. If I do, I hope Doyce grows up and stops whining. And I hope we don't get another super-villain who is going destroy the civilization. What I would like to see is the Seekers and Ghattis have an adventure on their truth-seeking circuit. We only got to see one case in the first book and none in the second.

Good, but not as good as the first one...
For some reason, Greeno chose to destroy MOST of the main characters -- almost as if she was worried any book without a lot of senseless deaths would be unprintable...The Ghatti are also relatively absent for much of the book, which I found a great disappointment.

The plot and characterization are otherwise brilliant... It was nice to see Greeno decide to treat the "Gleaners" a little more rationally in this volume than she did in the first. The only problems really occur where Greeno evidently "needed" to inject elements that didn't fit in with reality. Still, it's worth the extended read, if only for a historical set-up for the next novels.

Mind Snare

How disappointing.
I eagerly awaited Gail Greeno's next book after finishing the Ghatti's Tale Series. What a truly delightful read. Mind Snare was another story entirely. The characters didn't have the same resonance as the ones from Ghatti's Tale. I found little I had little empathy for Glynn and the relationship established between characters not very well supported. I kept reading the book hoping that it would pull through and at least have a satisfying ending. I found the use of modern references very distracting in the context of the story because it interrupted the content of what Ms. Greeno was aiming for. Only a truly die hard fan or collector should add this to their library. As for me, I'll keep re-reading the Ghatti's Tale and be enthralled again and again.

Can't Wait
I can't wait till this book comes out. I loved Gayle's other books, and I'm sure this one won't dissapoint me. The author has a real talent. If you haven't read any of her books I suggest you try one. I'm certain you'll enjoy it
