Wonderful Story!
I have had this book since 1969 when I was 6 years old. It is a treasured part of my childhood! It tells the story of a lovable dog Harry and his family spending an eventful day at the beach. Children and adults alike will love this cuddly tale.

An adorable dog, kids, beach, adventure. 'nuff said!
This book instantly became a bedtime favorite with each of my kids (boy and girl). Harry is adorable, and just enough mischief and adventure (and smelly seaweed!) to keep the little one's attention, and to keep young readers turning the pages. You'll love it too.

Highly recommend this book!
This was my favorite book as a child. Great story and fun pictures.

a crowd pleaser or on it's own, it's great!
I purchased this book with the intention of reading it to a group of 150 impoverished Ecuadorian children in Quito, Ecuador. The children range in age from 5-11. THEY LOVED IT!! They were particularly responsive to the funny, mischeivous antics of Harry as they oohed and aahed after I had finished reading each page! It was a good lesson about how to be yourself too. The children immediately shouted "otra vez!" after the first reading. I obliged with 2 more readings!

A Children's Classic with Many Teaching Purposes
Gene Zion's plant sitter still retains the excitment it held many years ago. Students are dazzled with the illustrations and more importantly the adventures of the plant sitter. The book makes a great read aloud, and a super introduction to an elementary unit on plant study!

A DOG'S GOT TO KNOW HIS LIMITATIONS
.

Harry the Dirty Dog is a timeless classic for children (and their parents). Such a simple story: - a white dog with black spots becomes a black dog with white spots after a day's romp, followed by a temporary identity crisis.

Harry is one of those children's books where the story and the pictures mesh perfectly. The home-life and street scenes that Harry experiences are straight form the wholesome 1950's. Springtime daffodils are everywhere. In fact the green and golden colors are the only two colors that were on the illustrators palette. The pictures by Margaret Bloy Graham are at least half the charm of the book.

The drawings of Harry's family, their house and neighbourhood couldn't be simpler. The magic of this drawing style shines through when you see how she has captured the smiles and gasps on their faces.

All dog lovers know how dogs can smile. After Harry's homecoming, his bath (and hard scrub), and dinner we see Harry with the biggest doggy smile, you have ever seen.

This book will sure to be around and enjoyed by children for another 50 years.

Harry the Dirty Dog is the best book I ever read as a child
Browsing through the internet, I found Harry the Dirty Dog. Harry was my favorite book as a child. I am 35 years old now, and I have rarely read anything that makes you feel this good. Harry is a great Dog. He made me feel loved, and I still like the way he hid his scrub brush under his favorite pillow. I still remember in vivid detail, the pictures of when he slid down the cole shoot and changed from a white dog with black spots to a black dog with white spots. I still love Harry. In fact, I'll stop by the local book store on my way home and buy my niece a new copy. ( Believe it or not, I have Harry the Dirty Dog packed with the rest of my old College Text Books ). I still love you Harry.

Sweet dog, sweet family, sweet story
I love the Harry the Dirty Dog series! A great story for kids and adults who like to read a good children's book.

Harry is an adorable white dog with black spots (as is repeated throughout all of the Harry books)... and he's always getting dirty. His entire family loves him and he loves them right back. Even when he's dirty, Harry is still family... which makes a great parable for parents explaining to their children that while they may not be happy when their kids mess up, they are still loved nonetheless.

The illustrations of this happy dog frolicking around are absolutely precious. The story is endearing and I have my copy sitting on my coffee table.

Childhood Favorite
This book was a childhood favorite, after 30 years the story of the spider and all the good he did for the zoo has stuck with me. It has all the elements to keep a child interested and to teach good valuable lessons. It is easy reading for a child, I think both boys and girls will enjoy it.

A Lifelong Lesson
I remember reading this book to my daughters who are now in their late 20's and early 30's! I've enjoy remembering how helpful Helen and her children were to those around them. I see myself now, even, trying not to harm a spider or their magnificent webs on the front porch or a bedding plant in the garden. My grandson enjoyed watching the web grow and grow last summer on our front porch and was disappointed when a storm destroyed it. :^(

Very useful book
I really liked this book because it really helps people understand what most people do not understand, the spider. It shows people that spiders can be useful and should not be harmed. I thought it was really great when the people in the zoo and the zookeeper found out that it was Helen that were keeping the animals healthy and made the rule to be nice to spiders.

harry and the lady next door
I like Harry and the lady Next Door because Harry doesnt like her sining. I also like this book because Harry brings all these animals. home and the lady sings louder than them. These are reasons why you should read these books.

Harry the Wonder Dog!
Harry goes to desperate lengths to silence the lady next door - her singing is too high and loud. He howls, bits piano legs, steals music, chases cows and bands, but finally succeeds, to everyones' relief. Even the lady next door is happy.

I read this as a child, as did my brothers. This is the first story that my 5 year old has shown an interest in reading by himself. Thanks Harry!

The Storm Book
The beginning of the Storm Book, starts out with the build of a big storm. The storm first striked with lightning and thunder, something the young boy in the book hasn't heard or seen. The thunder and lightning leads to heavy rain. After the storm pasts, the boy asked what the curving, misty arch of color was. His mother told him that it was a beautiful rainbow.
I enjoyed the story very much. The words they used to describe the surrounding was very well done. This story could very possibly happen in real life. The pictures are very good. I hope you decide to take a look a this book, I'm sure you will be pleased...

Excellent book for showing how different people see storms!
I really enjoyed how the book described the different experiences people had with the same storm. I love storms so the book was that much more interesting to me!

Benjy's Dog House
Benjy was as happy as he could be. Every night he would curl up next to Linda or Jimmy and go to sleep. Then one day Father decides that Benjy is old enough to sleep outside in a dog house. Father, Mother, Linda, and Jimmy all help in turning the old apple barrel into a dog house for Benjy. But Benjy doesn't want to sleep outside, so he gets up and goes looking for somewhere else to sleep. Eventually, he is welcomed by a friendly baker who feeds Benjy and fixes him a bed. From then on, Benjy spends his nights at the bakery, until one day when the baker's cat returns with kittens. The baker sadly tells Benjy that he will not be able to come there anymore. What will Benjy do now?
This book is sure to be one of your favorites. I know it's one of mine.

Good Story/Good Illustrations
Benjy, the family dog, has been relegated to sleeping outside in a new doghouse that the family has built. But he doesn't want to sleep outside, feels unloved, and sets out exploring into the night. He takes up with a neighborhood baker who feeds him snacks, and gives him a warm place to spend his nights sleeping away from the family. Eventually, the baker has to put him out, but all is well since the faily decides he can sleep in the house again.

Benjy's Dog House
This story was my favorite as a child! Who can't sympathize with poor little Benjy, who, after the tragic revelation by Father that he is a dog (and not a child like his owners, Jimmy and Linda), feels saddened by his new sleeping quarters away from his beloved family in the backyard doghouse. After several lonely evenings on the town, Benjy's family realizes he truly does belong at the feet of their children's beds.

A very original story line of a dogs dilemma.
I remember this story fondly from my own childhood. The different strategies that Harry tries to rid himself of the sweater he does'nt like are still very amusing to me today. I'm going to share it with my classroom.

A memorable book from my childhood
I love everything about Harry. The illustrations are wonderful and the pallet is unmistakable. The story is sweet and entertaining. Even though it has been years since I last read it, I remember it clearly & fondly. I intend to buy a copy & keep it for my own children.

My favorite Harry Book
Of all the Harry Books, this one is my fave. Harry, a white dog with black spots, gets a present from Grandma--a sweater with big roses all over it. He hates it. He gets laughed at when he wears it, so he tries losing it...several times. He is finally rid of the sweater in an imaginative plot sequence that involves a mother bird. It's a sequence that also spares Grandma's feelings, thank goodness! The story ends with Harry receiving a new sweater from Grandma, one he likes very much. It's a white sweater with black spots. The ending is no doubt a reason why the book is a favorite of mine. My two-year-old likes all the Harry Books. The stories contain wonderful twists of plot but are written in simple language. Also, there are only a couple of sentences on each page and the illustrations correspond beautifully to the text (a rare treat, given that the author was not the illustrator), so even though they are recommended for young schoolchildren, toddlers will be able to enjoy these books.
