Great Bedtime (or anytime) Tale!
This is a wonderfully charming tale about a bunny who can't seem to get to sleep, so he goes to friend's house to friend's house trying to accomplish this task. In the end, he finds out that the best place to sleep is in his very own bed.
Wonderfully written!

Lot's of fun and apparently very memorable!
My little boy (aged 2 and half) loves this book. He has it memorized word for word and has kept reciting the lines for a couple of months now.

A lonely bunny finds peace with himself
This book is absolutely fantastic, and a must for families with a only child. The story illustrates how one can get mired in thinking that they need (unnecessary) companionship. For an only child, it teaches him or her that being in their own bed alone at night has the distinct advantage of peace and quiet. It is an absolutely lovely story with some very memorable lines. It is even a good message for adults who think 'companionship' is the answer over a good night's sleep.

My 3 yr old boy's favorite book
This book really captured the imagination of my son. Reading this book doesn't make him afraid of the book, it had just the opposite of effect. He is definitly not afraid of the big bad wolves anymore. He even has the first page of the book memorized already and insists on trying to read it himself. A must have book for the little ones in your life.

excellent read-aloud
I have used this story with several classes who visit our library and they always love it. I think the kids can relate to being scared and having their Mom deal with their nighttime fears. The illustrations are charming and add a great deal to the story. Thumbs up!

SMILING ANIMALS BRIGHTEN A RAINY DAY
Those who enjoyed the popular "Where Is The Apple Pie?" will be delighted with the author/illustrator's latest - an entertaining counting book based on the repartee between Goat and Pig.

It seems that when Pig went to the meadow to gather a bouquet a sudden summer shower arose. Without an umbrella Pig headed for the shelter of the nearest tree where he was joined by one small, very fast mouse. Soon two porcupines joined them, and were followed by three buffaloes.

It was getting to be a pretty tight squeeze under that tree, and it was going to be tighter. Poor Pig was soon squeezed out and came home dripping wet.

Gorbachev's smiling animals bring out the sunshine on this rainy day.

- Gail Cooke

A Joyous, Expressive Animal Counting Book.....
Goat, sitting on the porch of his home looks up to see a very wet and bedraggled pig approaching the house. "What happened to you friend pig? I can see you're wet. Let me guess. You went to the meadow to get some flowers and you were caught in the rain. Is that right?" And so begins Pig's fantastic tale of a sudden rainstorm, lots and lots of animals, and a very large old tree. As Pig tells it, he took cover under the tree to stay dry. Suddenly a fast little mouse joined him, then two porcupines, three water buffaloes, four leopards, five lions, six gorillas, seven crocodiles, eight hippopotamuses, nine rhinoceroses, and finally ten elephants..... Valeri Gorbachev's simple, witty text is entertaining, full of energy, and begs to be read aloud. But it's his charming, clever illustrations, culminating in a four page, fold-out spread of everyone together under the large spreading tree that really makes this picture book stand out and sparkle. Each pen and ink, watercolored page is filled with joyous characters, expressive, eye-catching detail and lots of humor. Perfect for youngsters 3-7, One Rainy Day is a unique and engaging counting book, complete with a funny, silly story line and a cute twist at the end, that shouldn't be missed. And how, you ask, did Pig get so very wet? "...I was in such a hurry to get home to tell you about what happened to me on this rainy day that I didn't miss a single puddle!"

A whole household of love for this book!
This was my first introduction to the "all aboard reading" series. It is terrific. This book is about a little mouse that decides he wants to be a sailor. He dresses the part, then takes a broom and sheet and makes himself a boat. Twin skunks come up and quiz him about the terrors of the sea: waves, sharks, pirates. To each he imagines them and replies, no, I'm not afraid. The skunks are amazed at his bravery. Then he decides he needs one more thing--his mommy. With his mommy around, he will be even braver.

The story isn't the only great thing about this book. The book is written in simple sentences that use pictures for some words. Even the younger readers can help read this book. If they don't know what some of the pictures are, it is a great vocabulary builder. At the back of the book, the picture words are put on flashcards. Kids can practice actually reading the words or getting used to seeing how the pictures look in letters. I love this book and think it is a must in beginning readers' libraries.

Great book for a rainy day
My 2 year old absolutely loves this book about a couple of chicks taking their first trip to the playground with their mother. They are afraid of trying things at first and eventually decide to try the slide. They discover that once they are over their initial fears (with help from a Beaver) they love it. My daughter says "whee!" along with the text when characters slide down the slide. A lot of fun for my daughter and a book that I really enjoy reading:)

Great for Preschoolers
As a children's librarian, I am often looking for fairy tales written simply for my preschool storytimes. This book meets my needs with large, colorful pictures and simple text. The traditional story is presented although the bears are far from frightening for little children. The bears are the sympathetic characters, especially with their amusement at Goldilock's invasion of their home and their familiar clothing. Gorbachev's illustrations have many fun details, including views of the bears on their family outing through various windows of the house. The book will entertain children-and hopefully adults-- through several rereadings.

An outlandish cumulative tale
"Hello, Neighbor," Pig says to Goat, "Where have you been?" "To the bakery," replies Goat. "What did you buy?" asks Pig. "An apple pie," says Goat.

"Where is the Apple Pie?" is Pig's inevitable reply, and so begins this circuitous story. The question is never answered directly, instead an outlandish cumulative tale unfolds when Goat reports that robbers took his pie.

On one page, we see Goat recounting the saga of the pie. On the facing page, we see what transpires with the robbers and the pie. Kids will get a kick out of keeping track of the wayward pie and in asking, "then what happened?"

Gorbachev's illustrations tell the story even better than the text. His robbers are rapscallions, his goat is an innocent victim and his pig is a good listener. A winning combination.
