In this book, Kaplan includes the "extra tactics" to obtain an even higher score. Why weren't those tactics included in Kaplan's regular LSAT book? Good question.
Anyhow, this book focuses on some of the rare and difficult LSAT question types and how to do well on those. The book provides a great mental workout, but, since the questions covered are indeed rare, will studying this book necessarily help out your score? Perhaps. You may find the regular LSAT question types easier after hammering away at this book. On the other hand, you may find that you've actually hurt your score by focusing on questions which don't appear much, and neglecting those that do appear often. Hard to say what will happen. It depends on how you learn.
Methods
Good, but you've got to be familiar with Kaplan's methods and terminology, which, if you aren't already, don't take too long to figure out.
User Friendliness
Well-written, easy to follow.
Who Should Buy This Book
Advanced students (those with practice test scores above 165) who have completed at least thirty of the former LSAT exams, have no issues with timing, are at a plateau, and feel that learning a bit more will help them out of their rut. However, if you are at this point, you're probably at your saturation point and it's unlikely that this book will help much. We suggest another approach instead. Find someone who's scoring low ?135 to 150 - and provide free tutoring for them. You'll be likely be amazed at how much teaching the exam will help you understand it and your own test-taking skills better.

Example: When discussing the first logic game of the book, it contains the following sentence: "But there are lots of events to juggle (no, juggling is not one of them)--eight to be precise--and nine possible slots for them." Well, the reader knows from having read the question that the juggling is not an event. Why the lame attempt at humor? This book is a utility, and the aim of improving one's LSAT score need not be obscured by silliness such as this.
Some of course may say that I am harping too much on a minor quibble, and perhaps they are right. But it seems that since I bought the book for the explicit purpose of improving my LSAT score, I do not need to be reminded of the drudgery of studying for said test by lame attempts at humor.
I bought this book and it was very easy to pinpoint the specific areas I was missing questions on, and hammer them down untill I was confident of my ability to answer those questions on the real LSAT.
This is probably not a good book for those who need a comprehensive study guide for the LSAT, but if you are familiar with the test already, or have already taken a study course (I took Kaplan in 1997), I can't imagine a better tool to use to prepare.
For a long time, GMAT takers, especially the high-scorers, were thirsting for really good questions to work with. Kaplan, the #1 test prep company, has now come-up with this excellent book for the advanced preparation. However, there is more hype to the text than reality.
This book covers all the question types from the CAT sections of GMAT. In my opinion, the coverage for Critical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Problem Solving and Data Sufficiency is barely sufficient. The only saving grace of the book is the examples related to sentence correction.
In general, there are about 321 questions in the book (A steal - compared to $99 which Kaplan charges for 500 question bank). The break-up is - 35 Critical Reasoning, 12 Reading Comprehension Passages with 4 questions each, approximately 60 Problem Solving questions, 38 Data sufficiency questions and about 110 sentence correction. All the questions are explained well. However, the book is filled with pseudo-reasons about why the question is considered to be tough. There are, in addition, general tips throughout the book for adapted to give the additional edge needed for an 800 scorer.
Since this is the first edition, there are, expectedly, a few typos and formatting errors. That should not stop you on your march to the perfect score.
All in all - give it a try, if you wish, you 800-SCORERS!!!
