Great guy great book!
If you are ready to go to the next level in life read this book.
This guy knows what he is talking about. Truly a life changing experience. A master craftsman working his craft. Great for anyone who's dreamed of doing better. Here's how to.

This book was just the motivation I needed in my life now.
Kenneth gives me the motivation to achieve the goals I have set for myself. I Want to Be Good is an excellent book for anyone to read. The optimistic and energized outlook makes me feel that I can do anything I want to do in life. I can be "GOOD". Kenneth uses his wonderful sense of humor to get his point across. Definitely a book for people of any age.

Highly recommended for those searching for wisdom and wit!!
A refreshing and honest view of an "extra"-ordinary man. His wisdom and wit, will have you in stitches! It is delightful to know that a man can be "good" and modest. This author needs more attention from the mass media. We will be hering, seeing, learning and being entertained by him much more. This book is easily read and undestood. More importantly it leaves you with his positive and poignant message! I would recommend this book to readers of all ages.

heartfelt
You can tell that the author (Ken O'Donnell's daughter) greatly admired and loved both subjects of her book (Bobby Kennedy and Ken O'Donnell). It's an inspiring tribute to a past era. Helen O'Donnell hardly knew Bobby Kennedy (she was 6 when he was killed). However, she grew up listening to stories about him. Her mother and father both loved Bobby Kennedy, for different reasons. They gave her a discriptive account of Bobby, the man, and RFK, the politician. With rumors that have become accepted and unsubstantiated truths, new books such as "RFK: A Candid Biography" that try to dirty his name, as well as a fading national memory of his contributions; this book is a refreshing change. Ms. O'Donnell mentions that Bobby was her father's hero, and as told by Jackie Kennedy herself, Bobby was Jackie's hero as well. It's nice to read something positive about Bobby Kennedy, my hero.

The well-oiled Kennedy machine
A Common Good is an enjoyable, fast-paced read. It is a warm portrayl of Bobby, Jack and Kenny O'Donnel as people. There are laughs and poignant moments. It s a must for anyone interested in Robert Kennedy.

A STERLING EXAMPLE OF FRIENDSHIP
Kenny O'Donnell has done an outstanding job of providing insight to a man who figured largely in world history. He has drawn a very real, very strong portrait of a man who set and met many personal goals in his personal and professional life. Robert Kennedy was, in my opinion the most interesting of his brothers. Mr. O'Donnell does an excellent job of describing the aura of sincerity Robert Kennedy exuded. He helps bring a man into focus who has been dead for many years by describing the consistencies of his character. Robert Kennedy was clearly a very driven, very determined and very hard working man. He was also a very caring, very committed and very compassionate as well. He was a central figure in world history and I think the late Senator's works have certainly influenced the world for the better. This book is definitely worth reading.

Best book on the subject!
I'm sorry that I missed this book when it first came out because it has so much useful information about the federal income tax and other related subjects. The author sometimes gets a bit long winded for my taste, but that really doesn't detract from the information contained therein.

I'm going to review the book by chapter as opposed to the book as a whole. I think that the reader will get more information this way.

1) WHAT IS THIS BOOK ALL ABOUT?
A rant on American ignorance and untax history.

2) THE NATURAL LAWS
A rant on the natural laws of government.

3) MONEY, DOLLARS, AND CURRENCY
Info on what is real money, currency, and inflation. Good chapter!

4) THE FEDERAL RESERVE
Info on how the Federal Reserve Bank is NOT a part of the US government. How it issues its paper debt, the depression of 1929, etc. Quite informative if you've never known it before.

5) 1933-TODAY: THE GREEN-STAMP ECONOMY
Info on how the US greenbacks went from being backed by gold to being backed by nothing.

6) THE IRS HAS NO JURISDICTION OVER YOU!
Information on the limited jurisdiction of Congress, the IRC definitions of "United States", state Citizen v. US citizen. He clearly shows the legislative authority of Congress on page 6/6. One thing that he missed is that the IRS is NOT an agency of the United States! For a revealing expose about the true origins of the IRS search the web for the document "THE BIGGEST HEIST IN HISTORY" by William Cooper.

7) YOUR LABOR IS AN UNTAXABLE RIGHT
Direct v. indirect taxes, how your wages aren't income (i.e. profit).

8) YOUR PRIVATE PROPERTY IS A "FOREIGN ESTATE"
Positive v. non-positive law (the IRC is NOT positive law!), how your property is outside of United States jurisdiction.

9) THE 16th AMENDMENT
A good chapter on how the history of the 16th amendment. For a in depth study of the 16th amendment read "THE LAW THAT NEVER WAS", by Bill Benson.

10) "SOCIAL SECURITY" IS SOCIALIST INSECURITY
A rant on how social security is NOT insurance or financially sound. Too bad that he doesn't discuss how the social security act only applies in the (federal) United States - not in any of the union states! For a more detailed report about Social Security search the web for "SOCIAL SECURITY TAX AND TAX WITHHOLDING ARE VOLUNTARY WITHIN THE 50 STATES". Excellent information in this file.

11) YOUR WAGES ARE NOT IRC "WAGES"
How you're tricked into believing you're an "employee", an "individual", and a "person" for income tax purposes. Excellent information!

12) HOW THE IRS TRICKED YOU INTO WITHHOLDING
How the words "must" and "shall" mean "may" in the IRC, privacy act notice, withholding agreements.

13) YOU ARE A "NONRESIDENT ALIEN"
How if you're not a US citizen, but a state Citizen you're foreign to the United States. Good chapter.

14) MONOPOLY© - THE WORLD GAME
Misc points of interest.

15) TOWARDS A ONE-WORLD CURRENCY
How the electronic money system is coming, an interesting insight on the "war on drugs".

16) WHY YOU'VE NO MORAL DUTY TO PAY THE IRS
Rant on how the US government is bloated and destroying the country, and the American family.

17) YOUR "FAIR SHARE" ARE THE "PRICE YOU PAY"
Counters the guilt tactics used to get you to feel guilty about not "paying your fair share".

18) REPUBLIC vs. DEMOCRACY
A good discussion on how democracy doesn't work. FYI this country was not founded as a democracy, but as a republic. (See Art. 4, Sec. 4)

19) FUTURE TYRANNY ON THE HORIZON
How to deal with the coming Fed ID card and gun control.

20) THE FORTH BRANCH OF GOVERNMENT
The informed jury - he shows how jurors can decide on both the law as well as the facts of a case. Excellent!

21) FIXING THINGS
While I agree with his views don't hold your breath for any of this to happen - the government has too much to lose!

22) TAKING A STAND
The title says it all.

23) GET INFORMED - GET INVOLVED!
Very good information in this chapter on how to wake-up!

24) HOW TO STOP WITHHOLDING
The best information on how to stop withholding without claiming "exempt" on a W-4 form. Better information on the subject than in any of Irwin Schiff's books!

25) HOW TO AVOID JURISDICTIONAL TRAPS
Good advice on how to avoid "volunteering" in different ways.

26) BOOKS, SOURCES, AND ORGANIZATIONS
Numerous books and organizations to help you continue your search for the truth. While it's outdated by a decade, the books can be obtained by inter-library loan or a used book store and the organizations that are still around can be found on the web.

After reading this book I would recommend that you continue your research by doing the following:

A) Search the web for a document titled "AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE MEANING OF THE TERM UNITED STATES". While some of the code sections are out dated - it has very good information. Read it!

B) Search the web for the document "PUBLIC JUDICIAL NOTICE", BY William Cooper. There are three parts to this document. Read them all!

C) Find "THE DIXIELAND LAW JOURNAL" on the web. That site is by attorney Larry BeCraft and he has good information on it.

D) Get a copy of "LEGAL RESEARCH" by Stephen Elias. After reading this book you will be able to research the law as good as any attorney.

I highly recommend this book over any of Irwin Schiff's books on the federal income tax.

Enlightening!
Whether you intend to use the information in this book to avoid volunteering for federal witholding or not, it's well worth reading for all the related information. There is a wealth of references to works of other authors and organizations too, that are helpful. I get so tired of hearing all the "there's nothing you can do about it" whining. Yes we CAN do something about it. People before us DID "do something about it", but you have to first choose to, and then take action. This is a book I recommend. I read it, and I'm now buying another for a neighbor.

Best book on untaxation!
This book is what shattered my ignorance about a dozen subjects (money, taxes, law, politics, etc.) and I would highly recommend it even if untaxation is not an option for you. It's now back in print, and I ordered a recent copy from a distributor of Javelin Press (website under their name). Amazon should have it again real soon. Get this book, and the rest of his, especially Hologram of Liberty.

Entrepreneurism: A Philosophy and a Sensible Alternative for the Market Economy

What MBA Students Say About the Book
This book provides an excellent framework for discussion on economic policy. It presents a stark realization of overall economic impact to people who are traditional profiteers. For those who only see "the two silver dollars", this book provides a starting point for a bigger picture view.

What MBA Students Say About the Book
I found the book interesting and especially found the study of entrepreneurism as an ideology unique and interesting. During review, I found opinions and topics that could introduce more discussion into the study of entrepreneurship. Two areas that I saw particularly intriguing are: 1) defining approaches to business as traditional or entrepreneurial, and 2) the introduction of law into defining entrepreneurship. These two topics bring further questions and consequently greater discussion. -- Chris Barker

Enhanced with "spicy commentary" by Kenneth Roberts
Enhanced with "spicy commentary" by Kenneth Roberts, Marjorie Mosser's Good Maine Food is a superb regional cookbook that emphasizes good, wholesome, filling food for appetites that are sound and sturdy. From Curried Oysters, Ham and Veal Loaf, Baked Winter Squash, and Fish Hash, to Broiled Honeycomb Tripe, Sour Cream Gingerbread, Molasses Icebox Cookies, and Maple Syrup Pie, Good Maine Food is a 424 page compendium of culinary delights that are dependable appetite pleasers for any meal or occasion.

A cookbook classic - an absolute traditional necessity
Our copy of Good Maine Food shows it's wear and tear of 10 years of good use. The first printing was in the same decade as the first "Joy of Cooking". But unlike "The Joy..." it hasn't been ruined by a recent re-editing, Good Maine Food still makes no reference to microwave ovens or any problem with butter or lard. Hooray for them. It gives the best pancake recipe, wild duck recipe and home corned beef.

As Maine goes so goes the Country...this is a downright great cookbook.

A remarkable story
This is a truly remarkable book, much different from most anthropological literature. Although Good sets out to do a very mainstream anthropological study, he gets drawn in to the community, and what ensues is a fascinating tale, a touching love story, and hopefully, a major change in people's beliefs about so-called "primitive tribes". As Good becomes more and more frustrated with the competitive and stuffy world of academia and more connected to his Yanomama tribe, he truly begins to change his life. Remarkable!

A TRUE ADVENTURE
EAGERLY DEVOURING EACH LEAF OF LITERATURE IN KENNETH GOOD'S INTO THE HEART, READERS ARE CATAPULTED INTO MYSTICAL, UNSEEN EXPANSES WITHIN THE VAST AMAZON RAIN FOREST. WE READERS VIRTUALLY BECOME AN ANTHROPOLOGIST'S TRAVEL COMPANIONS AS GOOD EXPLORES A LAND BLANKETED WITH A PEOPLE KNOWN AS THE YANOMAMI. CIVILIZATION IS RARE IN SUCH VIRGIN TERRAIN, NEIGHBORING THE PIRANHA-INFESTED ORINOCO RIVER. YET, INTO THE HEART, PUMPING WITH THE LIFE-BLOOD OF SURVIVAL, EXPOSES HOW ONE PRIMITIVE CULTURE SUBSISTS WITHOUT A SPARK OF TECHNOLOGY OR MODERN CONVENIENCE. RAYS OF INSIGHT EMANATE CROSS-CULTURAL AWARENESS AS WE REALIZE THAT A DISTANT VENEZUELAN COMMUNITY SHARES CERTAIN QUALITIES THAT INTERCONNECT ALL HUMAN BEINGS, HOLISTICALLY. INSTITUTIONS, SUCH AS MARRIAGE, AND KINSHIP RELATIONSHIPS AMONG THE YANOMAMI EXEMPLIFY CROSS-CULTURAL SIMILARITIES. OTHER UNIQUE ASPECTS DIVERGE FROM THIS INTEGRATED OUTLOOK, HOWEVER. IMAGINE SPORTING ONLY A MERE LOINCLOTH OR DRINKING A POTION, ITS KEY INGREDIENTS BEING YOUR LATE GRANDFATHER'S ASHES. tHOUGH CULTURE-SHOCKED INITIALLY, THE HEIGHTENED COGNIZANCE WE HAVE ACHIEVED THROUGH THIS EXOTIC TRUDGE THROUGH THE AMAZON OVERSHADOWS ANY HARDSHIPS WE HAVE ENDURED. GOOD'S JOURNEY INTO THE HEART HAS FOREVER IMPACTED MY LIFE. WE DEPART FROM THIS MEMORABLE EXCURSION WITH OUR DWELLINGS CARPETED BY GIGANTIC ANTS, OUR TOES NIBBLED BY RAVENOUS VAMPIRE BATS, AND OUR BODIES STRICKEN WITH STRAINS OF MALARIA. AS PASSENGERS ON THIS UNFORGETTABLE VOYAGE, WE READERS HAVE ABSORBED A TRUE UNDERSTANDING OF ANTHROPOLOGICAL FIELDWORK. FOR MORE THAN A DECADE WE HAVE WATCHED AN ANTHROPOLOGIST FULLY EXAMINE A CULTURE DIFFERENT FROM OUR OWN. THROUGH KENNETH GOOD, MANKIND ACROSS THE WORLD HAS BEEN INTRODUCED TO THE YANOMAMI, A REMARKABLE PEOPLE WHO BOLDLY LEAD US INTO THE HEART OF HUMANITY.

Another anthropologist's take on "Into the Heart"
Ken Good's Into the Heart is a valuable addition to anthropological literature for several reasons: it gives us a personal account of the trials, tribulations, and rewards of fieldwork; it adds some balance to the literature on the Yanomama, which has at times focused almost obsessively on the violent aspects of their culture; and it provides a context within which some aspects of the ethics of ethnographic fieldwork can be discussed.

Ken's book is an account of the encounter between one anthropologist and the people he studied. It is absorbing always, joyful at times, painful at other times, and it certainly contains lessons about the difficulties of cross-cultural relationships.

Ronald Kephart Ph.D., Anthropology

Very moving, real account of cultural contact
I have read many anthropological ethnographies and personal descriptions; this is perhaps the best I've read. (Another interesting book about the Yanamami, by a woman anthropologist, is Shabono.) I wanted to add to the previously contributed reviews that there is a follow-up documentary, done by National Geographic Society (I believe) a few years after the book was written, which describes what happened to the marriage between Kenneth Good and his Yanamamo wife. His wife was completely unprepared for life in the West and had almost no support systems available to her. She ended up returning to her people.

This is one of the only books that I've read from cover to c
This is one of the most entertaining books that I've read from cover to cover throughout my college education. I've also been lucky enough to have Dr. Good as a professor for two classes. We used this book for both classes. In reading this book and hearing first hand of his life in the Amazon, has made me realize that the world is bigger and more diverse than I ever wondered. His marriage to Yarima shows the love that can happen to people being from anywhere in the world. Some of his colleagues at the University like to show their lack of intelligence by talking about this marriage to Yarima. If they had half the experience Dr. Good posses in the field they would realize that they are just jealous of being nobodies in his department.

Anti-whining strategy for fighting depression
For some reason, perhaps because many intellectuals suffer from and write about it, depression has become a trendy psychological affliction among people who by objective criteria have little to complain about.

Julian L. Simon suffered from depression for many years, yet he was able to defeat it through an eclectic approach incorporating ideas from his Jewish cultural background, cognitive therapy, existential therapy, Eastern philosophy and other sources. It's refreshing to find someone who emphasizes that depression derives from an unhealthy form of self-absorption that needs to be disputed vigorously. Stop making comparisons between your actual life and some hypothetical "ideal" life; recognize that you have an obligation to provide an emotionally healthy environment for the people you love; cultivate the values that conflict with your depression. In general, take action against your depression instead of selfishly wallowing in it.

Although Simon mentions his economics research only in passing in _Good Mood_, I also recommend reading his books about the positive trends in the environment, population and general material well-being to provide some cognitive support for a better attitude towards the human prospect.

Comprehensive
The premise of Simon's theory is that depression is due to our tendency to compare ourselves to others, how we used to be, what we hope to be, etc. It sounds simplistic, but the book is actually very comprehensive. Rather than making generalizations about all depressed people, he details many different methods and combinations of methods so that you can choose the ones that will work for you.
