Good reading, but a bit far-fetch
I enjoyed reading this book but I felt that, at times, the story received too much of a coincidence action to help push the storyline along. Overall it was enjoyable but a bit surreal for me. Debby should have sought answers and not just suddenly figure things out at the convenience of keeping the story moving.

COPS R PLOTS
THIS READING IS FUN, LIGHT, INTRIGUING AND HARD TO PUT DOWN. DEBBY GOLD IS AN OFFICER THAT WE ALL KNOW AND DON'T HAVE A JADED IMAGE OF YET. MS. THUNA HOLDS YOUR ATTENTION WITH JUST ENOUGH NAUGHTINESS TO KEEP YOU HOOKED. KEEP BANGING THOSE KEYS AND BRING US MORE EYE CANDY IN PRINT. BUY THE BOOK AND PUT IT ON YOUR BEDSTAND INSTEAD OF SNACKS, GUARANTEED TO WHET YOUR WHISTLE.

Debby Gold - I like her!
In Debby Gold NYPD, a psychological thriller, Thuna brings us not only into the heart of Manhattan, but also into the hearts and minds of her richly drawn characters. As they become real to us, so does the story. We're shopping "chic" with Gail, or sipping coffee at a sidewalk cafe in Manhattan with friends, or meeting Debby's family in Pound Ridge, or watching Allen grow up.
As readers, we have some inside information on "what's going on," and yet it does not at all diminish the suspense. Unexpected twists and turns keep the drama and excitement going, and the final outcome a surprise.
It's a good read for many reasons. Thuna's dramatic skills have crossed over nicely from theater to book writing. And if you are a person who likes to relate to characters - make them your friends (or enemies) - this is really a book for you.

A wonderful resource for library media specialists!
This is my first year as a library media specialist. I have used this book with my elementary students very successfully. The games are fun and the students get so excited when they hear we will be playing a game! I have purchased many library skills books and this is one of the best.

Recommended for elementary classrooms and homeschooling.
In Learning About Books & Libraries: A Gold Mine Of Games, Carol Lee and Janet Langford collaborate to present forty seven original, effective, and fun educational games for children in grades K-6. Each game contains a suggested grade level, a description of the instructional purpose or goal, easy preparation instructions with estimated preparation time, simple and clearly written instructions for playing each game, patterns, and further recommended reading. These easy-to-follow learning games are divided into three groups: fiction books likely to be found in most school library collections; games pertaining to nonfiction books, recognition of the Dewey Decimal numbers, map skills, and research resources; games used with thematic units or to stimulate further understanding of particular books listed. Learning About Books & Libraries is enhanced with an index listings each game by grade level and content areas of the curriculum. Designed for classroom use, Learning About Books & Libraries is also highly recommended for homeschool use.

An incredible amount of effort went into this book
If I had just skimmed through this book I would swear that this book was made specifically for use in completely reorienting the wiring in your average eight year olds biocircutry. Not only that it has been written in a style which should technically be understandable by your average eight year old... with an understanding in psychology, philosophy, and mysticism. Of course I am only kidding but goodness me this book really changed my understanding for the uses of an isolation tank apart from the other writings of Lilly's. Seriously I can't imagine a book more straight to the point blunt and clear. Remember " In the province of the mind what one believes to be true either is true or becomes true within limites to be found experientially."

imaginative
enlightening words about remarkable experiences that most can only imagine. Treated with respect and near reverence by an editor that takes the time to know her subject and her material.

Very impressive!

A great simplistic approach to the concepts of chemistry!
As a biochemist turned stay-at-home mom, this book has proven to be great fun and a great asset. I have used it to share my career with my children, the preschool class, and the Girl Scout troop. It is an excellent resource for parents and teachers. Answering a simple question, each experiment is presented on a single page with sketches accompanying each step. Dr. Heidi not only introduces mixing, but also separations which is equally important in laboratory detective work. The kids loved turning orange juice into orange soda!

The Influnce of GURPS Japan in my campaigns
When I read for the first time this book, I wasn't expeting too much, but it really surprised me. GURPS Japan brings to you a complete description of the social classes and the code of honor of the Samurai, the "bushi" of the legends and history in the feudal Japan. Is very cool meet a lot of friends and try to interpretate the honor of being a samurai, or to understand the essence of this marvelous game. The complete description of the weapons and the costumes is very interesting too.

This is a book that children will ask for again and again!
I read to children at school; and this is by far their favorite book! Children love the stories written by Larry Libby, because they can put them- selves right in the story. They also love the author's ability to tell the stories as if each child was right there at that moment. Most importantly, using these wonderful stories is a most precious and perfect way to help children understand all about what God's word has to say about being afraid; a topic children think about alot but talk about little. This book gives an excellent opportunity for children to freely talk about "this business of being afraid". Children will love this book and ask for these stories over and over. These stories do well being read aloud to children and they will enjoy telling their stories of being afraid and how God helped them. A wonderful teaching tool on the topic of fear and why God gives us this emotion. I look forward to Mr. Libby writing another book along these same lines very soon - maybe on another emotion that God gives us; using the same format, for children.

Into Gold

An excellent novella...a book as well?
While I am familiar with the novella "Into Gold" by Tanith Lee, I did not know there was a book by the same title. Possibly it is the title story in a collection; I am reviewing without ever having seen the physical book. However, I can recommend "Into Gold" on its own merits, and I do so with great praise.

Taking place in Britain some time shortly after the fall of the Roman Empire, "Into Gold" is told by Skorous, the second-in-command of a fort held by Skorous' closest friend Draco, the Roman-born son of the old commander. When a Corn-King comes to the town, bringing grain, he brings as well a beautiful woman named Zefra, a daughter of the East "studied in the lore of the Al-Khemia." According to the Corn-King, she can turn anything into gold. Naturally, Skorous' skepticism and Draco's curiosity take her up on it. Not only does she display her art to Draco's satisfaction, he falls deeply in love with her--infatuated, as the skeptical Skorous observes--and not only takes her for his night's pleasure but marries her in the Roman fashion. When they have a son, Skorous' suspicions are only confirmed: Zefra must mean to bring up a half-breed son and thus hold power through him when Draco is gone. Motivated by his jealousy and suspicion, he moves to destroy Zefra even as she prepares to give her son the greatest gift of which she is capable...and suddenly, everything is not quite as Skorous thought it was. Mixing several different strains of mythology, from alchemy to Greek myth to Arthurian legend, "Into Gold" is a masterpiece of world-building, as Tanith Lee re-creates an alternate version of post-Roman Britain, and of character creation and development in Skorous, Draco, and Zefra. A masterful story--and just plain fun to read. (I've re-read three or four times now, and it's still good.)

Similar stories are "Draco, Draco," which also takes place in Britain after the Roman occupation ends and details what dragonslaying is *really* about, and "Ceres Passing," which tells of an encounter between a young dancing girl and the wandering goddess. In any case, "Into Gold" comes highly recommended. Read it!

Debra Lee does it again!
Kate Dennington has begged, and borrowed to come to America from her native Ireland to collect her inheritance, a rundown general store in the gold rush mining town of Tinderbox, California. Now, one more obstacle stands in her way. According to the laws of Tinderbox, the only way for Kate to own and opperate a business is for her to be a married woman. With few prospects for a husband among the unsavory miners, she looks towards the one man who could help her, and in return he would be helping himself, ruggedly handsome fur trapper Will Crockett.

Will has troubles of his own. Having lost all that he owned to Kate's competitor, Eldrige Landerfelt, Will finds himself in desperate need of funds to escape the trapped out lands of California and book passage to the game rich wilds of Alaska. Accepting Kate's proposal might just be the solution to both their problems.

Of course there is just one hitch to this business arrangement of their's, can Kate and Will keep their hearts in check and part company once they have earned enough money to buy their way out of Tinderbox?

I found this to be another winner from author Debra Lee Brown. Miss Brown sure knows how to deliver a love story so powerful and moving it will stay with you for a long time after you have read it! I loved this book and you will too!

Great Read
This book has become one of my favorites. I could not put it down once I began reading. The characters were consistent from start to finish.
I have read only one other book by Ms. Brown and it was very good also. But this is a must read.

Another keeper from Debra Lee Brown!
Debra Lee Brown's trademark mix of intrigue and romance will keep you on the edge of your seat. Lively characters, a terrific setting, and a red-hot love story. A winner!
