Essential book for safari
I just got back from a two week safari in Tanzania and both of my guides raved about my book. They each had books with pictures of birds and animals, not actual photos. The descriptions in this book are accurate, the photos beautiful, and the price is well worth it. I ended up giving my copy to my guide when he took me to the Serengeti airstrip for my trip home. I'm ordering another copy now!

Must-have Reference for Safari Goers!
This is a great reference guide to African wildlife. It could be used on safari to identify some animals or acquire additional information about already well know animals. It can also be used at home to read about the animal behavior, habitats and national parks of Africa. The book has wonderful collection of photographs useful for identification of many species. It also lists national parks and other sanctuaries by country. There are photographs of different wildlife habitats and a chapter explaining the geography of African continent. This is a very useful book, which could be used in many different ways to enjoy or gather information about the wildlife of the African continent. I recommend this guide to anybody interested in the natural history of Africa.

A Very Informative Book
This book gives you everything you need to know about the biogeography of Africa and many of the animals found in Africa. Pictures of the animals and land of Africa make it especialy helpful.

A scholarly work.
In Carl W. Peters: American Scene Painter from Rochester to Rockport, Richard H. Love, with scholarly expertise, tells the story of a pioneer American regionalist whose career developed amid the conflict between modernisn and realism. Not just about Carl Peters, Love's book is rich with stories of American art. His coverage of the art scene in Woodstock and Cape Ann, America's first art colony, is a fascinating contribution to art history. What a place Gloucester must have been in the early twentieth century! John Sloan's description gave unique insight, "there was an artist's shadow beside every cow in Gloucester, and the cows themselves were dying from eating paint-rags."

FIRST COMPREHENSIVE LOOK AT THE AMERICAN SCENE PAINTER
Carl W. Peters, American Scene Painter from Rochester to Rockport.is the first comprehensive look at the American Scene and mural painter. Art historian, artist, gallery owner, and former media personality Richard Love, a consummate scholar and cultural commentator, contrasts the European-inspired traditions and modern movement with "home-grown" American realism. Throughout the book, Love's extraordinary grasp of American artistic and cultural events enriches the story of Peters' life and art in a marvelous way. We conclude that Peters was a distinctive American artist. This remarkable book, beautiful in design, dense in delineation of all aspects of American culture, and rich in expression will long be the scholarly standard for the life and works of Carl W. Peters, who rose from humble origins on a farm in the Genesee country to become an outstanding painter of the American Scene.

It will definely help!
Your book will definetly help students and patrons alike find information on a period of American art that has not been fully covered.

gnosticism just got a whole lot sexier
I didn't know or care much about the gnostic scriptures until I heard Peter Richards give a reading in Boston this spring. His reading was amazing, the poems and delivery poised between ecstasy and complete devastation. What surprised me most was how sexy he made spiritual concerns seem--the way he blended the erotic and the contemplative lives. The poems in Oubliette give voice to the dirty saint in all of us and should be cherished for that reason.

True and clear, more familiar than "religious magma" . . .
The reviews on this book's page (and even some of the blurbs on its back cover) seem, unfortunately, to be of the sort that discourage people from exploring poetry. I was a student a few years back in Peter Richards' excellent poetry class at Tufts University, and his most remarkable talent as both teacher and writer was to rescue this art from pretentious language and cryptic ramblings. The value of his instruction is just as evident in his own work compiled here. Consider, for example, "The Moon is a Moon," a poem that appears to be a reaction to verse that obfuscates reality rather illuminating it: "The moon is not a hole / into an alternate sky / where the dark is quiet, / the thunder white.... / The moon is a rock with blue scrapes." Here, as elsewhere, Richards demonstrates that the most poetic insights inhere, as I can imagine him saying, in the quotidian, and are lost on those who think so little of their own experiences and sensations that they must supplement them with an artificial depth. I do not mean to suggest by this that the beauty of these poems is always obvious on the surface: Most need to be read many times for full effect. They also are best appreciated line-by-line, the better to absorb the clarity that is the hallmark of Richards' voice. Real highlights in this collection include "Circled Square Drawn to Scale," "This is the Color," "Boy for Sale," "The Sea Looking On," "Central Square," and others. I would especially recommend this book to readers of Charles Simic, Pattiann Rogers, and Wallace Stevens.

A beautifully written collection
Richards successfully blends the old and the new, the mystical and the mundane, the past and the future, and creates a world in which the reader is both invited and exiled from. It is a world that is occupied by lovers and the uninvited "third tree" (or the "three shades of love"), of playful word plays and rhythmic braides, of concealment and disclosure. Perhaps Salamun is right. Richards could be the leader of the next generation of American poets.

Wonderful book.
This book settles once and for all that there is much variation in the golf swing. The format makes reading and studying this book a lot of fun.

A fantastc reference
This is a must have text. This book contains essential photos of great players of this game. Used regularly while assesing your swing will provide you with great insight to your own game. David prsents many useful lessons which he demonstrates clearly. Enjoy.

Highly recommended. An example of learning from greatness.
This book presents the swings of several "great ones", as analyzed by David Leadbetter. Knowing that each individual has a unique swing, Leadbetter points out one or two key points about a particular champion's swing that he believes should be emulated. The format is very readible, with a short synopsis of a player's career and style, followed by two frame-by-frame series (from behind, as well as from the front of the golfer), and then concluded by the key features, as well as drills on how to incorporate this in your game. Since different approaches work for different people, I'm sure everyone will be able to benefit from at least some of the key points that Leadbetter addresses from each champion's swing.

An Excellent Resource
Many Christians feel uneasy about the Enneagram as a way of deepening self-awareness; this is mostly because the test has some connections to the Sufi religion and new age thought. That makes this book by Richard Rohr necessary and helpful to be able to gain the insight of the enneagram from a source that is operating from a Christian worldview. This book has sections on where the enneagram came from, what it is, what the 9 enneagram personality types are, and how Christians can benefit from it without adopting non-Christian ideas. The most helpful part is part II of the book which goes into depth on the 9 types, from a Christian perspective. Most helpful, Rohr identifies the root sin of each type, and how God can redeem that sin into a beautiful gift. He also talks about what gifts the types naturally have, and how we can grow in those. I have heard that the enneagram does not put people in boxes, rather, that it helps people identify what boxes they are already in and how to get out of them. This book is very helpful for understanding yourself and others, and for getting out of the boxes that are keeping you from living in a full and redeemed way.

GENUINE self-help
This book is friendly while helping one to see one's REAL self...and giving insight and well as practical ways to grow and change for the better. I am buying a copy for each member of my family! By far, the best "self-help" book I've read...

A royal kick in the teeth!
The Enneagram is more than just a form of personality typology, it goes to the roots of our motivations and perceptions. For this, I have always felt secure in using the Enneagram to explore my insecurities and thusly, life lessons to be learned.

Through my years of struggling to find a simple clear message from the Christian faith, I find this book to be challenging without being offensive nor condescending. I had to put the book down several times just to mull over a single paragraph. This book is an excellent source for learning the Enneagram and, as a bonus, explains the Christian faith in a nonthreatening manner.

excellent introduction for students and practitioners
In contrast to their graduate text "Time Series: Theory and Methods" this book is more elementary and introductory and is pitched at the advanced undergraduate level requiring only calculus, elementary statistics and matrix algebra. It gives very good coverage to a wide variety of time series models and includes some nonstationary models. In this second edition the chapter on nonstationary models includes the latest coverage of ARCH and GARCH models presented in a way that I found very accessible.

Computations are done with ITSM and in this edition the ITSM 2000 version 7.0 edition is included on a CD so that students can reproduce the authors' calculations and run analyses of their own.

Another nice feature of the text that distinguishes it from other texts at this level is the introduction of multivariate time series, coverage of state space models, chaos and cointegration. Ideas are illustrated with examples. Important theory is discussed but is kept brief and theorems and proofs are not given to the extent of their other more theoretical text.

Excellent introduction on time series analysis
Very good introductory book to ARMA models. Full of real-life examples that provide some intuitive insight about the issues that may arise when modelling time series and forecasting. Requires some initial knowledge in statistics and algebra but if you're involved in time series modelling, it should be your first book.

A NOVEL FOR EVERYONE
It isn't often that a novel achieves all aspects of the reader's expectations or hopes. PETER OLAF contains all the ingredients that make this an enjoyable, exciting, emotional, and inviting experience for readers young and old.

The main character, Peter Olaf, is described and developed so completely that I could picture this young man in my mind, and as I followed his life from that of a seventeen year old immigrant from Sweden to a successful, middle-aged business man, I felt I knew him. The conflicts in his life, the romances, the hardships, the heartaches all became so real that I found myself unable to put the book down.

It was obvious that the author had done his research about the logging business in Northern Minnesota and the growth of the Twin Cities at the turn of the century. These settings provided the scenes for action, education, and romance.

This is a novel that has something for everyone. The last pages of PETER OLAF will bring the reader to tears and a hun

A Must Read!!
"Peter Olaf" is one of the best books I've read, and I'm very picky about the books I read. From the very first chapter I was hooked. The characters have so much depth that you feel like you are part of their lives right from the begining. The balance of hardship and happiness had me either trying to read through my tears of sadness or tears of joy! Either way it was always hard to put the book down. I could hardly do anything else but read! This is definately an awsome find!! I'm looking forward to reading the authors next book.

A Remarkable Find
"Peter Olaf" was a complete joy to read. It is a story that grabs your attention and compels you to read on. There was never a moment while reading this intricately-woven story that I didn't want to continue on to the next chapter.

"Peter Olaf's" characters are presented to the reader effectively. The scenery is artistically drawn without overkill. This book's author indulges the reader's senses without spoonfeeding every detail.

The content is remarkable. The story is beautifully orchestrated like waves of the ocean. Just when you think you can't stand the height of the torment, deceit, or sadness, the wave breaks and something perfect happens to the character. It is an exhilarating blend of adventure, romance, tragedy, and a man's overwhelming ability to survive his own life story.

I encourage everyone to treat themselves to this book. And, I hope the author has more of these stories to write.

A Week in Vermont
About six months prior to my husband's and my trip to Vermont, I purchased Tree & Jennison's book and poured over its contents, intrigued by all that the New England state could offer these Texans. Because the authors had taken the time to visit the various locations noted in the book, I had no worries about the trip. Once in Vermont, I used the book as a bible, knowing what to expect in each village. I met many of the people that they had mentioned, and each had glowing remarks about them. Without this book, my vacation would not have been as organized or enjoyable, and we even went during Mud Season! I recommend this book wholeheartedly because the information is well researched.

more than just useful
This book captures, for me, something close to the heart of Vermont--it's clean, simple, direct, truthful, and deeply entertaining. I have done a lot of travelling in the state over the last 18 months, and found the Explorer's Guide reflects with accuracy and cultural compassion the experience of living and wandering here. Some people will buy it for the inn and the restaurant listings, but its real strength is in its quiet delineation of the regions and their differences. If I were allowed another star, I would use it.

well organized, concise, well worth every penny
We did not know much about Vermont but the book got us on our way quickly. The different sections are clear and get straight to the point.Wide variety of things to do, places to stay, eat and shop. A very satisfying purchase.

ADVANCED ADVICE FOR BUILDING A LEARNING ORGANIZATION
Everyone who reads THE FIFTH DISCIPLINE comes away excited about the benefits of having a learning organization. Yet many get stuck in a rut as they try to implement what they learned in that superb book. THE FIFTH DISCIPLINE FIELD BOOK helps fill in that lack of understanding with dozens of questions, examples and exercises. You'll have a ball with this, even if you only use a little part to focus on where you need help. A great related book for building a learning organization is THE 2,000 PERCENT SOLUTION, which teaches a new thinking process that simplifies and speeds up learning for an organization. It also shows you where you need to get rid of old thinking that is holding you back. You should read and use both.

A second dose of Inspiration...
Senge's second serving of the Learning Organization is filled with practical tips and real-life examples from companies and organizations that have embraced the teachings of the Learning Organization successfully.

The Book is a collaboration of several writers who do a superb job of unraveling the web that is the learning organization. At times, it may seem to the reader that the book is a labyrinth of disjointed concepts and ideas. However, if you have read 'The Fifth Discipline' you will find no problems following the concepts introduced. In fact, you will even understand why the writers have chosen to introduce them in that fashion. If you have not read "The Fifth Discipline', do not despair, it will take a little longer to get 'the whole picture'.
The Book is divided into 8 main sections:

1) Getting Started addresses the basic concepts and ideas of the Learning Organization.
2) Systems Thinking (the fifth discipline) - Many people have argued that Senge should have delegated the fifth discipline until the end, however, without Systems Thinking, your vision is disjointed and incomplete.
3) Personal Mastery covers the area of individual development and learning. The chapters here are among the most valuable in the area of self-growth and self-improvement.
4) Mental Models - These are the pictures that you have in your head which represent reality.
5) Shared Vision - You've seen the whole picture, you've developed and you understand how you see the world. Now you need to find a common cause with the rest of the people in your organization, something that you all work for.
6) Team Learning - As you work with other people in teams or groups, you need to pass the stuff that you have learnt and the wisdom you've acquired to others. At this stage, the learning is no longer that of the individual, but the group.
7) Arenas of Practice - (Self explanatory)
8) Frontiers - Where do we go from here.

If you are interested in development, learning, growth, leadership, gaining a competitive edge whether at an organizational or personal level, then this book is for you. In fact, I'd venture to say that this is book is for everyone.

Moves elegantly between concepts and every day reality.
Bridging the gap between text and context, The Fifth Discipline Fieldbook offers everyone a deep and refreshing look at what work can be and should be. The authors ground their stories, examples, exercises in five conceptual touchstones--personal mastery, mental models, shared vision, team learning, and systems thinking. And these disciplines accurately reveal three core tasks in leadership: looking at self, developing others, and seeing the larger picture in order to chart a meaningful course. Stories enliven the ideas while examples and exercises offer practical models to use in any organization. Generous side margins, different colored ink, and graphic icons are visual treats as well as immediate graphic guides. And the narrative references to related issues make reading the book more intuitive, more interesting.

In fact, these physical details model the whole point of the book--that learning is essential for sustainable growth, for organizational and personal development.
