My son's all-time favorate fire fighting book -- mine too!
My son judges a bookstore or library by number and quality of fire engine books. This book is our favorite. There is information in this book that is not in any other book we've read (and we have read many) and still it is an easy read. Gail Gibbons does a great job packing information into 4-8 year old bite sized pieces.

Fire! Fire! Awesome! Awesome!
I purchased this book for my 3 year old son with the intent to acquaint him with exactly what firefighters and their apparatus do.

I recently joined our local volunteer fire department and my son has been afraid of the sirens of our nearby station for a while now. This book was a big hit with him and me!

This book organization of this book gives it 4 sections for paid (city), volunteer (country), forest and harbor departments. My son loves the illustrations and sits and listens intently to the descriptions. Each page contains illustrations displaying smoke detectors, hoses, personnel, and fire equipment that are all well labeled.

This is a must buy if you need a firefighters book for your child!

All kinds of fire fighters!
My 5.5 yr old son LOVES this book! He renewed it for four weeks at the school library before they made him turn it in, and then cried about it. The book teaches kids about different kinds of fire fighters. Most of us think of a fire fighters down at the fire station but it also encompasses smoke jumpers, water front fire fighters and more. I found it interesting to read to him too.

Perfect for teaching about seeds.
This is an excellent book for younger students (K-3) about seeds and plants. I am using it as part of my summer school reading/writing program. First, I read the book to the students and we planted little radish seeds (they grow quickly) in see-through plastic cups. Later, the students read the book out loud to one another and we discussed the seed to plant concept. They also kept a journal to record their observations of their seeds with illustrations about every other day. This book presents a great opportunity to combine reading, writing and science.

Superb, simple explanation of plant life.
This book's big, colorful illustrations and simple language do a superb job of explaining subjects such as plant reproduction, seed dispersal, pollen transference, and seed germination. Although intended for a younger audience, I read this book aloud to my fourth grade students to quickly build their background knowledge.

Excellent Science Book
This is an excellent book for children to learn about life cycles. The text and illustrations make the wonderful miracle of life come alive for the readers. Beginning with the egg and ending with the beautiful Monarch the author clearly explains the changes that take place. Information is also included about the migration patterns of these interesting creatures. The last pages explain how children can raise monarch butterflies so that they can observe this miracle of life first hand. I would highly recommend this book to teachers who teach life cycles as part of their curriculum

From Katrina Holder (7 years old)
I like this book because you can learn things about butterflys that you did not know before. You can also tell other people about it to. The pictures are very nice and pretty.

Great book
My 2 1/2 year old train-loving son wants this book to be read to him over and over again. The simple pictures and text give a nice overall explanation of trains to toddlers.

A Must Have Favorite for Kids who Are Train Lovers!
I give this book five stars, not because I think the pictures are the best, but because this is THE favorite book right now of my 3 1/2 year old train loving son! The simple, factual text gives lots of helpful information for parents to talk with kids about the different kinds of trains there are (diesel, steam engine, electric etc.) and the various functions of a train. If your kid is into trains, this is a must have!

Kids love tricksters!
Anansi is lazy and he likes to play tricks! This time, turtle outsmarts Anansi. Anansi does all of the work while turtle gets tired. The kids in my class ask to listen to this book and the other Anansi tales, retold by Eric Kimmel, over and over again. This one takes a little bit more thinking to figure out what the tricks are.

lighthouses
Being from North Carolina, it was delightful to see Cape Hatteras Light on the front end paper. Lighthouses are significant in NC and used as a unit theme by many teachers. This book shows not only lighthouses from around the country but presents the history and function of lighthouses suitable for pre-school and primary grade children. The print is large and the illustrations are concise.

A cheery, fact-filled, highly recommended picturebook.
The Berry Book by Gail Gibbons is a cheery, fact-filled, highly recommended picturebook for young people who are just beginning to learn reading. All sorts of different edible berries are pictured with simple, cheery, full-color illustrations. From strawberries and blueberries to gooseberries and wintergreen berries, just about every berry type is presented for inquiring young minds. The last few pages teach how to grow your own strawberries, and how to make a blueberry pie, strawberry jam and raspberry ice cream.

Cats by Gail Gibbons
Gail Gibbons is fabulous! Her books are highly educational and informative and at the same time a whole lot of fun for the kids to read and look at. The illustrations in Cats are fantastic. I am a teacher and find her books to be very resourceful, and the children love them. Cats is a particular favorite because children just naturally love cats!

MILK MAKERS
I understand why this was a reading rainbow book. It is a great experiment activity non-fiction book. This book exaplins how milk is processed. Most children most likely think that the milk in the fridge comes from the store. What they may not realize is that it comes from a farm miles away. This book goes into great detail how milk is made, and the makeup of cattle. it also gives brief descriptions of variuos types of cattle and dairy products. The illustrations use labels and bright colors. I think this is a good non-fiction book for children. It is in a language that they understand and it is easily read. The book is also very accurate as are all, her books. Gibbons was raised on a dairy farm and has made numerous trips to the dairy farm.
In close this is a good book for children, especially for a science unit. I would have this in my classroom library for childen to perhaps complete a report about milk or other products. Gibbons has a great series on the way variuos things are made.

Excellent resource book on farming and dairy production
This book is highly enjoyable and informative for children, and I think that every child with an interest in farming would be happy to own a copy. I strongly recommend this book to parents everywhere!

Excellent book!
this was such a great story for our kids to read - we live near a dairy farm and this book gave them a lot of insight into the real working of a dairy farm - it answered a lot of their questions and ours too! We love this book!
