Very Well done.
...Desert Town, written by Bonnie and Arthur Geisert, is an overview of life in a town in the middle of the desert. The story goes through what daily life for the residents is like and shows some interesting details that separate them from AnyTown, USA. The people of the town have to alter their lives to adapt to their environment. They change many daily activities to avoid the blistering heat of their locale. Yet through it all, the people do not seem to mind their unusual lives. The illustrations are simple and direct and seem to display accurately the desolate feel of a real desert. The text unfolds an interesting and informative story and informs the reader of what life in a desert can be like. A delightful combination of text and pictures, the book gives an accurate account of desert life. The story is simple but allows for the reader to discover a different ways of life in a different kind of town.

A very simple, realistic story of small town living
Kids ages 4-8 will relish this very simple, realistic story of small town living. A dry desert town is filled with life year-round in this fourth story of small town living, which is thin on words and big on pictures filled with fine detail.

They've done it again!
The Geiserts have woven a wonderful story for children. It educates about life on the desert along with providing incredible etchings. A perfect addition to the collection.

good for a variety of pedagogical purposes
If you would like for a reading student or ESL student to practice reading one word repeatedly without getting bored, this is a good book for that purpose.

An easy read!
Aesop's fables are fun! I enjoyed the short stories when I was young, and my children are enjoying them now. I like the book because it is easy to pick up and just read a short story or two when I am pressed for time (or tired!). Each story is accompanied by a wonderful illustration and a short moral at the end. The stories teach compassion for others, the value of hard work and perseverance, honesty, and so much more. Our children need to be taught right and wrong, and these stories do it in a fun way.

a fine print maker makes a fine book
This is the best book by this artist-author. He does great prints, and this book is the one with the best prints he has done. The story is the story of the Ark, but really the joy of this book is the prints. They presents great images of life on the Ark done in a way that adults will think kids will like. And the kids will like them

Simply Fascinating
I was introducted this past weekend to Arthur Geistert's body of work via an exhibit of his various etchings and books at the renowned Art Institute of Chicago. They were, in a word, exquisite. Parents will enjoy them as much as older children in subject matter as well. I was wishing that I could buy the etchings framed and display them at home. I plan to order his books for myself, and I don't have children!

Another wonderful book by Arthur Geisert
This book is so much fun! My boys love it - they giggle and laugh all the way through it. The drawings are wonderful and there's a great message in the end about teamwork! We can't wait to see what Arthur comes up with next!

More fun than two words should be!!
The first time through this wonderful adventure left my child squealing with the "Momma's piggies". By the third time through, the concept of "Mommy's mad" was realized. Each time through this story gets more interesting. Your child will sit and make up stories around the wonderful illustrations!

Lovely and loving view of the year's cycle in a small town
In _Prairie Town_, the work, play, and socializing of a small community are vividly illustrated in a way to capture the interest of young and old. The finely wrought etchings are _Prairie Town's_ greatest strength. Even adults will enjoy tracing changes in buildings and activities as a small farm town moves from spring to summer to fall to winter. Watching the tree house expand was one of my favorites. Each time a reader goes through the book, he or she will notice new details. The only drawback to this excellent picture book is the occasional use of vocabulary too advanced for the 6 to 8 year olds that would seem to be the book's intended audience. Anyone who enjoyed Geisert's _Haystack_ will find delightful references in _Prairie Town_ to the earlier book. The cycle of the seasons is an ongoing part of all Midwesterners' lives, and the Geiserts' _Prairie Town_ captures that cycle very effectively.

Educational and Entertaining
The Geiserts have made a book that can be enjoyed at many levels. At a basic level you have a lovely picture book about a small mountain town that has detailed pictures and is not too wordy. At another level a child can try to spot a blue car on each page and what experiences it has. On a more advanced level this book can promote a discussion of life in a small town and how the different seasons affect the lives of the folk who live there.
