What's So Great About It?
I feel like SIMON COWELL and I'm sorry, but I just don't see what was so great about this book. It was boring and the plot was very weak. Need I say more? Well, I will. I usually love this author.

DELICIOUSLY ROMANTIC BOOK ,MUST READ
This book by Julie Garwood is probably one of the best romantic novels ever written ,at least I think so .It is a roller coaster ride with a great storyline :elements of mystery ,romance and humour sucessfully knit together and the sex scenes are HOT .The charachters Alec and Jamie are two absolutely adorable people.Alec Kincaid is a Scottish laird who by the edict of the king should take an English bride . He chooses Jamie a violet eyed , fiesty beauty . Both vow not to fall in love with the other; Alec because he does not beleive in love and Jamie because she is angry at Alec who to her seems like a ruthless person who took her away from her home . However there is an intense attraction between them which slowly blossoms into a love that will change their lives and conquer all. It is a wonderful book and i assure you that by the end of the book you will be in love the charachters and they will stay with you . So take my advice and be prepared for the ride of your life ...

Warmth and Humor
SEQUEL: THE WEDDING

I have read almost all of Julie Garwood's work and I've never been disappointed. She will always be my all time favorite author esp. in Historical Romance Genre. Upon observation, I do agree with most avid Julie Garwood readers that she tend to use the same characteristics and somewhat similar formulas in most of her works - Her heroes are mostly tall, large-brutish-warrior & intimading yet handsome who is gentle and patient to his Lady. Meanwhile, the heroines are usually petite, well educated, saucy and spunky. However, I confessed that these familiarities doesn't seem to bother me at all. In fact, I liked it. Every now and then, I do enjoy my books with such characteristics. I'm guessing, this is J.G's style, her mark/her signature traits and I respect that. Humor, heart warming scenes, heart pumping twist and lovable secondary characters are also just a few of Julie Garwood's usual ingredients in all her novels.

THE BRIDE is definitely not an exception of Ms. Garwood's standard book qualities which I've mention above. Alec and Jamie's love story was captivating. Full of warmth and humor - I liked the idea that Jamie has no sense of direction, not to mention her ways of saving Alec's soul by buying an indulgence -chuckle! You have to read the book to appreciate this scene with a good laugh. My favorite part was the initial meeting (the conversation in the stable and the "choosing")... from there, the book gets funnier & even better! The arrival and adjustments in Highland are as always interesting. The suspense of finding out the murderer in this book was an add-on thrill. I have my doubts and guesses but the revelation was quite unexpected. I actually thought the murderer would be ----- yet I prayed and cross my fingers that it wouldn't be him because I liked him so much. So in a way, I was relieved it wasn't who I thought it was. The ending of this book was also one of my favorite in this book, another very unexpected and thoroughly heart warming conclusion to a supreme love story. Mary, Daniel, Gavin, Angus, Elizabeth, Father Murdock are just a few secondary character-favs of mine. What a joy! Read this book and chuckle with a glowing heart.

If you love a great medeival romance, The Secret is calling out to you. Julie Garwood brings the reader to beautiful medeival Scotland in the wonderful love story.

AN AWESOME BOOK!!!!!!
This book was one of Julie Garwood's best. It touched me in every way and I fell in love with all the characters. Especially Judith and Iain. I loved the way that Ms. Garwood made them so real that I felt like I was apart of the book instead of just a reader. I also loved the humour, I laughed so much tears came to my eyes. It was so wonderful, once I had finished it I read it again. I never miss any of Ms. Garwood's books because I know they will always be good

FUNNY, FUNNY, FUNNY!!! Julie Garwood is the ABSOLUTE BEST!
In my opinion SECRET is one of the funniest books written by Julie Garwood. This is one of the only books that I've read that didn't need some diabolical plan to be interesting. I laughed (especially at the way Judith reacted each time she had to act as midwife) throughout the entire book! I only hope that there will be more stories to come from this one. I've read RANSOM (wonderful work) but I would really love to read more about these characters, they are just priceless! But then again I shouldn't be surprised... it is after all Julie Garwood we're talking about!

A definite keeper!
This book captured me from the very first chapter. Duncan was an incredible warrior. I love it when the warriors are hard, mean and hardly ever even smile but they fall in love hard with their women. I laughed throughout the book at the crazy things Madelyne did. Especially learning the bow and arrow. Once again Julie Garwood has not disappointed me. Unfortunately I have read most of her books now and I now compare other authors to her which is really not fair...she's the best.

A wonderful book!
I love this book! This is the second time I read the book, and still , I enjoy it so much. this book is filled with such feeling. I love the way Duncan is always trying to protect Madelynes feelings. I love the way he makes sure no one hurts her. The dialogue is witty, the story is fast paced. It's just wonderful. I would say this is my favorite Julie Garwood book, but I love them all.. The entire book is great.. I can't think of one thing I would change about it.. Buy this book It is great!

One of J.G's best...again!
For me, this book is one of Julie Garwood's many best novels. I have read more than 10 of her books yet each time, it's a new different adventure. Yes, I agree that she sometimes described her herione pretty much with the same physical descriptions such as freckles in noses, smells like roses, etc... However, I find this flaw rather inciting.

Madelyne's strength, courage, patience and love for others simply captivated me to read on. Despite all the miserable times she had encountered during her growing up years, she still manages to keep her heart & spirit intact. Even after all the beatings and living life without a mother and a father, she still counted and appreciated her one single blessing of having an uncle who loved her. She doesn't dwell on the past, doesn't hold onto hate... and what's even more amazing is her unselfish side of wanting to help others find peace and happiness. Duncan is a true warrior in every way. He's honorable & patient. Practical & very disciplined...until love sinked in, and that's when practicality & disciplined became somewhat a burden.

The slow realization and acceptance of love between the two was simply perfect. Each scenes, little gestures of passions made this book irrisistible. There are many heart warming and humorous scenes in this book as well... The warming of Duncan's feet, the wedding, the learning of archery, the finding of the WOLF, the beginning of friendship with Duncan's sister, Adela & a whole lot more. I could go on and on but I don't want to give it all away here for those who haven't read it yet. Oh, I must add that I find Madelyne's clumsiness entertaining. The secondary characters all contributed to make this book worth reading for as well. Perhaps J.G. will write a sequel or a seperate book for Duncan's brothers and Adela's love story? The family twist and complications added spice and thrill from front to end. A must read & a keeper!

A GREAT BOOK!
This was the first Julie Garwood book I have read. The characters were well defined and unique; the story-line was excellent and moved quickly from the beginning. It was one I could not put down easily, and found myself reading it into the early morning hours of the night. Garwood has a real talent in humorous dialogue -- I laughed histerically all the way through, and cried right along with the characters as well. Being an avid reader, I found it difficult to read another book after completing this one...just hated for it to end! Now, I cannot wait to read more of Julie Garwood's books. She has made me a lifetime fan. Next: The Clayborne Brides, one by one.

LOVED THE SERIES!!! HATED THE MOVIE!!!
This story and the entire series was beautiful. It illustrates what family is all about. Family is not just about blood its about LOVE,TRUST,RESPECT & LOYALTY. If this was required reading in high school maybe we wouldn't be a nation full of Jerry Springer guest. The selflessness of the young men in this story is inspiring. These young men show that even if life has been tough on you there is hope. This book and the entire Claybourne series really touched me. Julie Garwood is a sure thing!! I love all of her stories. ****WARNING JULIE GARWOOD FANS**** the movie ROSEHILL that is suppose to be based on this wonderful book in my opinion was awful!! They made Mary Rose out to be very selfish and mean. They KILLED OFF COLE!!! They never showed the family bonds that were created and were the main part of this lovely story. In essence everybody grew apart in the movie. They even leave you feeling that Adam will die of consumption eventually.. It was sad and depressing and I feel it didn't capture the magic of this book!!!

The BEST
Julie---we are not worthy!!!!!!! I have read For the Roses several times (I have it in hardcover for the "I Love this Book--If you Touch them you DIE" shelf). I have recently finished the Red, White and Pink Rose series and have loved every brother--cant wait for you to tell Coles story!!! I even named 4 trees after the brothers. All of my friends who have read your books and I agree "I wish she would write faster" but then again we know that your books are something special to look forward to. EVERYONE read this book--you will not be sorry, you will love all of the Clayborne brothers, and Mary Rose with her sweet giving spirit. Then go on to read the other novelas that Julie has wrote about the Claybourns. Once again---I am not worthy of the joy your writings have brought into my life. Thanks :

A book that is close to my heart...
I was first introduced to Julie Garwood after skimming through an excerpt of MERCY in the Cosmopolitan magazine. After reading that book, I read HEARTBREAKER. Then, I embarked upon reading her historical titles.

As always, Garwood writes a tale about love, passion, and intrigue. SG takes place in the Highlands of medieval Scotland. The novel is truly captivating - for its memorable story, well-depicted characters, and excellent writing. Out of all the handsome, powerful, arrogant, and gallant heroes that grace the historical romance world, Scottish Laird Gabriel McBain is by far my most favorite warrior. He is a tender and passionate lover. Unlike many heroes, he does not torment himself, or struggle with the fact that he actually loves his wife! He accepts Johanna for who she is; he welcomes her love with open arms; and he protects her with all his might. Lady Johanna is wonderfully crafted as the golden-haired English beauty. Of course, she's clever, strong-willed, loyal, and absolutely devoted to McBain. Together, they make one of Garwood's most beloved couples.

I have read all of Ms. Garwood's books, except PRINCE CHARMING, COME THE SPRING, THE ROSE TRILOGY, KILLJOY, and A GIRL NAMED SUMMER. Her ability to entertain readers with her wonderful prose style is invaluable to the literary world. She's a masterful storyteller. After reading this book, I highly recommend that you read HONOR'S SPLENDOR, THE LION'S LADY, THE BRIDE, THE SECRET, and RANSOM. All of her books are great and very entertaining, but these 4 represent her best works.

I cherish SG, because it's the first historical romance novel that I ever read. It is a definite must-have for all romance readers alike.

Magical
My favorite Julie Garwood novel, Saving Grace focuses on the theme of spousal abuse in a Medieval historical setting. Johanna, who suffered at the hands of her dead husband Baron Raulf was a physically and psychologically abused child bride. She learns what marriage and love are really meant to be and discovers passion when she remarries Highland Laird Gabriel Macbain in order to escape the threat of imprisonment or worse at the hands of the king of England. Macbain, a former outcast and illegitimate son of a Scottish Laird, has formed his own clan of other outcasts and has taken on the task of uniting his clan with another. He marries Johanna, primarily in order to gain control of the land that she has inherited, but he quickly falls in love with her and vows never to let anyone mistreat her again. With the love of her archangel Gabriel, Johanna begins to overcome her fear and takes back her life. This JG novel has it all, Brilliant leading characters who stay in your thoughts, passion that makes you burn, mystery/plot that keeps moving, tenderness and sensitivity which lift your spirit, healing that touches your soul, wit and humour which will make you laugh out loud. Ms.Garwood has gone far beyond the norm with SG, it makes you think twice about "romance" writing.

Mixed Reaction to RANSOM
I read this book last year yet didn't write a "review" for it right away. I didn't know exactly what to rate it then. I read it the second time today and finally realized that I have mixed opinions about this book. One minute, I am loving each page... then next minute, I am somehow full of uncontentment. I don't want to say that I am totally disappointed in this book because I am not. It's just that there are many things I preferred would have turned out differently. Like for instance, I strongly feel that Ramsey Sinclair and Bridgett deserve their own book. Their love story was too endearing to be hastily combined with Brodicks and Gillian. In THE SECRET (prequel of this book), Ramsey was described as the most handsome of the three Laird friends (Iain, Brodick & Ramsey). He was always composed, nonchalant & roguish. Therefore, he deserves to have a longer story line. His love story would have truly been a fascinating read. I was also disappointed in how Julie Garwood twisted Christen's character in the end. It was too sad for me to know that after all the childhood closeness of Gillian and Christen, they had to go on seperate ways in the end. I don't want to ruin it for others but I simply must mention this part so that readers will be prepared. Perhaps I expected a warm reunion that is why I was devastated by Christen's decision. It was dreadfully annoying considering all the search and all the hard works Gillian put in just to find her... It was rather selfish of Christen to only think of her own self. Not even asking about her sister's sacrifices. Gillian went through a lot more than her! No matter how scared I would be to be in Christen's situation, I truly would still prefer to have a relationship with my sister. I would be happy to see her - I wouldn't act the way Christen did. I also found it a bit unbelievable that Christen would rather not have anything to do with Gillian considering their closeness once before. What hurt would it do for Julie Garwood to simply soften this part up and made it a warm reunion between sisters? I mean, There were so many protectors involved in this book! What is one more Lady to protect, huh? Oh well, that's just a small niggle in my part. Others might not have a problem with this.

As for Gillian and Brodick, their love story was unique and electrifying. I don't have any problems with their romance and developement. I enjoyed their banters! I enjoyed their adjustment to each other (esp. Gillian's adjustment to the Highlands and to Brodick's clan who live like a Spartan-now that was a riot!). I love the Buchanan clan. They are all fierce, possessive, protective and BEARY lot. Gillian is a strong & courageous Lady. Truly what Brodick deserves.

Since I love the prequel of this book, The SECRET, I enjoyed reading updates of Judith and Iain. I love the part wherein their son was involved in the plot. It was unexpected and the conclusion was heart warming. The action/mystery twist of this book was also exciting. It didn't overshadow the romances involved but added a tasty spice to it all. Overall, RANSOM was an interesting & worthy read despite some of my small complaints above. However, compared to THE SECRET, this one couldn't past as one of "Julie Garwood's Best".

Once you start, you can't put it down!
What an amazing book! Gillian, the sweet heroine, and her love Brodick, the strong Highland warrior with a ruthless reputation, make an incredible couple. From the beginning there is chemistry between these two and unlike most historic novels, we don't spend the whole book with them at odds until the final chapter. It flows so easily that I finished the book within 2 days because it was so hard for me to put down! The characters are so extremely likeable and inspired that this book makes even the hardest of hearts yearn to find and experience the love that these two have. Wonderful reading and would make a great Christmas present.

Ms. Garwood is easily one of the finest historical romance novelists around. I have read so many of her books and I have enjoyed each and every one. I particularly enjoyed the fact that this was set in the Scotland Highlands, which I love.

Loved it!
I really liked this one! I read it, loved it, then proceeded to re-read The Secret (the first introduction of Brodick and Ramsey) as well as my entire Garwood collection (with the exception of the Roses series - yuck!). A minor downfall in the beginning -- there is maybe a little too much information to grasp. But alas, things pick up as Brodick and Gillian meet. I enjoyed Brodick's character as I did in The Secret. I had a constant silly grin on my face throughout the majority of the book and much to my own embarassment, laughed out loud quite a few times. I did find Gillian a bit questionable, but could deal with that. She was fearless and courageous one minute and accident prone the next? Whatever. I enjoyed the incessant dialogue and witty bantering of these characters much more than reading paragraph upon paragraph of blah, blah, blah. There were things I didn't understand such as the loose end of Gillian's nightmares and a few other things.

I agree that Ramsey and Brigid deserved their own novel and would have preferred the hint of a relationship forming in Ransom only to have it blossom into their own special story. All things considered, I highly enjoyed this book and did NOT want it to end, therefore I had to read it two more times! Thank you Ms. Garwood!

SO FRICKIN' FUNNY!
I have never laughed so hard or so much in my entire life! I peed my pants three times reading this book, and laughed so hard I cried quite a few times! Sara is THE most oblivious character I have ever read! Oblivious, naive, but yet eager to please her husband and to have him love her. And the irony in Nathan being a notorious pirate and captain, yet he was seasick, and quite often! What a HOOT! I really loved all the characters, especially Pagan's crew! They thought she was a curse! Every time she touched something, everything that could go wrong did go wrong, and man, was it EVER funny! She was always frustrating and complicating Nathan and his crew, innocently, though, mind you. The love story was really light and not very intriguing, but this was a great read! Very light, very easy, very comical! Just a warning, though: Sara's family is very abusive and mean, so this book isn't for someone who would be disgusted by the comedy in this lightening the seriousness of abuse. (I don't think the author intended to make light of it, but that is how it was veiwed through the herione.)

My first Julie Garwood
This was an amazing book. This was my first experience reading a Julie Garwood book and by far the most entertaining romance novel I have read ever. I believe everyone is entitled to their own views but I saw strength in Sara. She may have been more emotional than most heroines but she certainly did not lack strength, it just wasn't as apparent. She truly loved Nathan from the time he rescued her when she was 4 years old. Sara was determined to win his love and trust. I can not wait to read more of Ms. Garwood's work.

The best mistake I've ever made (involving a book at least)
I found this book by accident, while checking out the used books at St. Vinny's. I decided to get it, because any book with a pirate in couldn't be all bad. What a find. I laughed so hard my mom thought something was wrong with me.

Although Nathan and Sara seem to have alot to overcome, their number one obstacle is themselves. Sara is sometimes portrayed as ridiculously innocent, and Nathan as trying ridiculously hard to maintain his image, but as a whole they are two characters you will enjoy laughing at.

Julie Garwood was quite a find for me, and I have proceded to read all her books, but this continues to be my favorite. I enjoy books with where the characters encouter primarily internal conflict, and although the families of the bride and groom offer some external problems, Nathan's battle against the inevitable (his falling in love with his wife,) and Sara's attempts to become a stronger women are the true conflicts the husband and wife are forced overcome before they can be truly happy together.

A "So-so" Read...
Since Julie Garwood is one of my favorite historical romance author, I've read and enjoyed all of her works in that genre. However, I am sad to admit that I didn't particularly enjoy this one. I didn't even want to write a review here for fear of ruining her overall rating. Inasmuch as I admire Julie Garwood, I also must be honest. In my opinion, THE WEDDING fell short in compare to her other works. The usual Garwood magic that draw readers to the story wasn't in this book at all. The primary characters was not as impressive but then they are not disappointing either. They are just alright. The plot also didn't seem to pull me in. However, it is not dragging nor boring either. The first part was funny and somewhat interesting but the latter part became a "so-so" read. Perhaps it is only me and my expectations of Ms. Garwood's work. Perhaps it is because I've read all of her books which made Connor and Brenna's story simple and somewhat familiar to me? I don't know. I only know that this book was just an ordinary read. It was not as "drawing", "pulling" nor impressive as I expected it to be. The add-on consolation of this book are the secondary characters especially the appearance of Alec and Jamie. They are the main characters of THE BRIDE, which is the prequel of this book. I enjoyed Alec and Jamie's story way better than this one. Perhaps I am even being generous by rating this book a 3 stars but as a Julie Garwood fan, I couldn't bring myself to give her a lower rating than this. Afterall, I thought THE WEDDING was overall a "so-so" read. It wasn't worst nor bad at all.... Only, it's also not Julie Garwood's best work...far from it. Now, that's only my own opinion. If you are a first time Julie Garwood reader, pick up any of her books but don't start with this one. She is truly a gifted and an amazing author. This one just happens to be a short flaw. I guess, everyone is entitled to that.

Almost Better Then The Bride
I absoluetly loved this book. Brenna was fresh and cute andConner steals your heart. The character developmant was excellent.Ms. Garwood sure knows how to get your attention. Brenna and Conner were perfectly written for each other and they definatly had a hot romance. I loved that the men were awed by the fact that she ate so much. Finally, a heroine who isn't afraid to pig out. Scottland is my all time favorite setting, and Ms. Garwood describes it beautifully. Now I want to visit it for myself! The plot is fast paced and the pages basically turn themselves. Plus, the return of Alec and Jamie was perfect. It was wonderful to hear about how they turned out. If you've read any of Julie Garwood's books, this is definately for you. Brenna's end description of her wedding is truly the icing on the cake. Please, read this superb, fabulous classic from the magic pen of Julie Garwood.

An Unforgetable Non-stop Romantic Adventure in the Highlands
This was the first book of Julie Garwood that I read and was totally hooked by the first chapter. Julie Garwood has a great talent for getting you to care about the characters and creating the perfect setting/scene. The Wedding got me totally hooked on her books and found other great treasures in her collection. If you're looking for unforgettable romantic adventures of clan wars, powerful lairds and strong-willed ladies set in the Highlands of Scotland, then look no further beyond Julie Garwood's collections. I highly recommend The Bride, The Secret, Ransom and Saving Grace.

Fun to read, but not Julie Garwood's Best
I usually really enjoy reading Julie Garwood's books. Even her lesser works are enjoyable to read, as she depicts her characters so well that you really want to know what happens to them. The Lion's Lady started out well with the heroine, Christina, getting adopted by the Dakota Indians. Her real mother had escaped an abusive husband, the king of some unnamed tiny European nation. The mother leaves behind a journal for her daughter, explaining the mystery of her evil father's ways - which the reader gets snippets of with each chapter. Christina's adoptive mother, Merry, had agreed to raise Christina after her real mother saved the life of Merry and her son. Merry has every intention of returning Christina to her "people" when she is older.

The story then jumps ahead to England, where Christina has just been introduced to "polite society." She meets Lyon, the Marquis of Lyonwood and is immediately attracted to him. She learns from her grandfather's attorneys that she will lose control of her inheritance to her evil father if she hasn't married by her next birthday. Her nasty Aunt Patricia wants the money, so she devises a scheme to get Christina married off to someone she can control, someone who will sign over a huge chunk of the inheritance to the aunt just to be able to have the "prize" of Christina. Christina decides to take matters into her own hands and proposes to Lyon. The main plot deals with whether or not they will marry.

Unfortunately,I felt the story took off in too many different directions, leaving many loops in the story and getting "facts" as established by the author mixed up. It was so hard to follow along - lots of bits and pieces didn't add up. I was also disappointed that despite all the buildup of a return to America and the Indian family Christina left behind, we never see them again. This was still a fun book to read, but by the end I knew I wasn't going to keep my copy. Julie Garwood has written many outstanding romance novels - this just was not her best.

very funny...another Garwood great
The story is about a girl named Christina, who was raised by the Native Americans. Her mother died when she was 2 while trying to escape from her evil husband. She kept a diary and Christina would read it when she got older.

Lyon is a jaded man whose dead wife had cheated on him with his brother. He is enchanted with Christina and her strange way of thinking.

They meet when Christina is forced to go to England with her aunt. All along Christina avoids telling him about her past for fear of putting Lyon in danger because her grandfather left her a whole bunch of money and both her real father and her aunt wants it.

I thought that the way she started most chapters with an entry from Christina's mother's diary was very nice. There were lots of witty conversations between Christina and Lyon, although I did find it a little annoying that Christina waited so long to tell Lyon about her past. And I love the ending! I think it was her best ending out of all the books I've read.

BEAUTIFUL WORK BY JULIE GARWOOD !!!!!!!!!!!!
