A Powerful Book on the Interactions Between Men
Perry Garfinkel's "In a Man's World," is one of the best books I've read on men's issues. It is well written in an engaging and conversational style and thoroughly examines the roles men play in life. The book appears to be based on excellent interview research but is also made more interesting by stories from Garfinkel's own life.

I am a voracious yet selective reader. I know what is good and what is not, no matter what official reviewers might say. This is one book I could barely put down. Oftentimes I would get up in the middle of the night and begin reading where I had left off the afternoon or evening beforehand.

Garfinkel puts boundaries on this specific work: The roles he thoroughly describes and discusses are those found in male-to-male interactions, not those found between men and women. Specifically, the roles of father, son, brother, male friend, paternal grandfather, and male mentor all come up in his book.

This is a good companion volume to other related (yet slightly different) books such as Robert Bly's "Iron John," Sam Keen's "Fire in the Belly," and Kent Nerburn's "Letters to My Son." I recommend Perry Garfinkel's "In a Man'as World" to anyone interested in men's issues or the psychology of men.

A helpful Book
This is an excellent book on how to gain respect by recognizing and cultivating its traits. Descriptions and examples of the traits (i.e. honesty, humor, etc) are explained. It would have been an even greater book if it taught how to handle people who just won't respect you no matter what.

Overall, it was a good book on the subject.

Excellent. I now command full respect at the office.
When I entered the professional arena after college, I had an extremely difficult time adjusting from the fraternity hijinks and it showed in the office. This book changed my life around. Everyone respects me and I can inspire others. No one throws things at me anymore. Perry Garfinkel is truly a great man!

Surprisingly terrific
I own six books on men's style so far. The only other author to whom I gave 5 stars was Alan Flusser.

This book is expertly organized. The information is clear, and it is all rather thorough. It takes you from being and idiot (which I was) to being quite well informed (which I'd like to think I now am.)

If you are going to buy only one book on men's style, get this one! If you buy two, get this and _Style and the Man_.

Got style? If not, read this.
Style is more then dressing. It's attitude, grace, manners and confidence. If you want some of those traits, you'll pick them up by reading this book, or, at least be on your way to getting them.

Highlights: (1) cultivating confidence; (2) elegance and grace; (3) emanating sex appeal; (4) grooming; (5) shopping strategies; picking the right person; (6) sports jackets, slacks, casual wear; (7) at a job, restaurant, bedroom or formal affair; and (8) aging in style.

Also includes reviews of popular men of style, like JFK, Cary Grant, Miles Davis and the Duke of Windsor.

max yourself out
This guide is a great starting point to a complete fashion make-over, or a refresher for those who . The editors covers head-to-toe (from shoes to hats and from underwear to coats) and inside-and-out (the key points in the art of confidence). I've had this book for some time now, and I can say that you don't have to be from new York ti reap the benefits.

Good buy for the short-on-time
This book covers all the basics. It's a must-read for the short on time and the stressed out who aren't into New Agey mysticism or West Coast transcendntalism. I'm a fan of Chichester's and this Mens Health series. They're brief, helpful and entertaining.
