Comprihensive answer to what a human is
I welcome you, Friend, and let the Light be with you on your way.

This book became my revelation. In it I found all final answers to my quest to find answers to what is life, what is death, what is a human being, what is purpose of life, what is Universe, etc., etc. This book became my true and only Bible in the meaning of true spiritual and life guidance. This book is allinclusive for all sciences and religions.
It is not easy to read. One may begin with What Dreams May Come and then switch to The Path (both are by Richartd Matheson). Or begin with Man Woman and Child by Percival. But for those who seek compendium of knowledge and FULL answers, Thinking and Destiny will become irreplaceable...

Incomparable
There must be others like me, who, even as children realized that something was wrong with the world. Things were not right, and worse, the explanations given for the questions we raised were unsatisfying, if not outright lies. Becoming an adult only magnified the distance between what was and what we thought should be. This book explains as none other, and I think I have read them all, what life is and what it is not. The difficult truths Percival reveals are often what we might have feared but dared not think: we alone are responsible for our lives.
This is tough stuff, and Percival's solutions to discovering who and what we are are enough to frighten away the casual pop
seeker who thinks he is enlightened already. But for the rare individual who is weary of the incessant emptiness of life, Thinking and Destiny is a gem beyond price.

A Lifetime Companion
Percival's "Thinking and Destiny" should end any serious seeker's search for accurate written information about life. The author demonstrates that he knows whereof he speaks. There is no fuzzy religious language and no speculations. Utterly unique in this genre, Percival has written what he knows, and he knows a great deal -- certainly more than any other known author. If you wonder about who you are, why you are here, the nature of the universe or the meaning of life then Percival will not let you down. Especially interesting are his numerous explanations that clarify such mysterious topics as original sin, immaculate conception, the fall of man and the reason for the sexes. His answers to these questions are lucid, authoritative and surprising. The road ahead for each thinking person is made plain and his exposition of The Great Way ranks as the best ever written. Dense with details and clearly presented, like all great work Percival reduces his tome to principles that any sincere person can understand and do. One thing for sure: after reading "Thinking and Destiny" you will have set into motion the thoughts that will propel you toward your real future. Be prepared!

Great Book
This was my mothers favorite book of poetry. She bought it in London late in WWII as a member of the Canadian Air Force. Her copy is well annotated and much loved.

I don't read it much, as being produced during the war, it is made of inferior paper and boards.

Thank Goodness that there is a new edition of it so that it can be read and enjoyed by my children without damaging Mom's copy..

It is a great collection of poems that Lord Wavell could quote from memory. I love his selection and am truely impressed that he had so much poetry committed to memory. His comments on the poems and personages that he knew just add spice to one of the best collections of poetry ever.

In praise of Wavell
I have loved this book since about the age of eighteen. My grandfather quoted from Jean Ingelow's The High Tide On the Coast of Linconshire. The occasion was the wedding of my parents...John and Elizabeth. My grandfather at their wedding reception apparently quoted the lines... A sweeter woman ne'er drew breath than my son's wife, Elizabeth. I have often wondered how he came to know the poem.

The Best of the Best
I have a hard back copy of this book. It is more than a book of poetry it is a book of life, love, conflict, courage and all things Human. It is an embodiment of those virtues that are innate in all Men and Women. It is not all English poetry, there are a few Yanks thrown in for good measure.

Best Comic Writer in America
This novel convinces me, were I in need of convincing, that Percival Everett is the most devious, unscrupulpous, and altogether brilliant writer of comedy in America. Hell, he'sprobably the best writer of anything.

Fabulous!
This is an immensely enjoyable read. Once I cut it open, I could not put it down. Everett's main character, Rhino Tanner, is so detestable, you end up actually accepting him simply because he revels in his own distorted and destructive ideas. 'Comedy with fangs'? I totally agree.

Weather of the Heart
I learned so much about revolutionary Russia and a different way of life from this book. Reading Ms. Percival's life story was intriguing--full of happy reunions and sad partings. The book really makes you realize that people are the same all over the world. This story of a young girl's long journey to America will inspire you and make you cry.

Excellent! Definitely a book to add to one's collection.
This memorable book gives us the memoirs of an 88 year old first time novelist, Nora Lourie Percival. This is far and away the best book I have read in years. It is an interesting and compelling story of a child growing up in and then escaping from Communist Russia. It is wonderfully written and historically significant. The rich descriptive narrative is a pleasure to read and to hear read (my husband and I read it aloud to one another). I found myself continually rereading passages purely for the purpose of savoring the author's exquisite use of language; I have read few contemporary writers whose use of language is as skillful and as sensitive as is this writer's. This is a book to be added to the family library and to be re-read throughout the years. It is an absorbing, heartbreaking and uplifting true story of a child and her family's survival of the Russian Revolution. The reader is grabbed by the first pages and his interest is held throughout. I've bought several to give as gifts. I would recommend it to anyone! It is truly marvelous.

Weather of the Heart
Nora Percival's book vies with Frank McCourt's book as an honest, heart-wrenching memoir. It is a book every American needs to read and it one of the finest books of this decade.

A masterful recording
I first heard of Odds Bodkin when he came to my children's school last year. This was the first tape we listened to and I will soon buy it. Bodkin's many voices combined with his gorgeous instrumental music give this recording a superlative, magical quality. My 12-, 10- and 7-year-old children were enthralled, and frankly, so was I. We could hardly wait until the next time we were all in the car so we could listen to the rest of the tape. Highly recommended.

OUTSTANDING!!!
This tape had my family enthralled for hours on a recent trip - we traveled to New York City and when we arrived at our friend's house, this tape was all we could talk about! It is a wonderful story by a truly talented man - thank you Odds Bodking for sharing your gift with us!

The Unique Vernacular of Brazilian Baroque.
The enthusiasm one feels for one's so-called coffee-table books is often short lived: they tend to get loyally dusted but rarely cracked. And for scholars of any type they are virtually useless. This book on Brazilian eclesiastical architecture, however, was such an eye-opener that I can't seem to get enough of it. Although butressed by enough scholastic text to make it interesting to the serious reader, its real seductive powers lie in its crystaline photography and the eloquence of the buildings themselves.

Brazilian baroque architecture is one of the few New World styles that takes a place in the Architectural Pantheon as a sophisticated vernacular unto itself. It is not a part of the quaint adobe tradition, but rather falls in line with the great churches of the Old World. In Brazil one speaks of Portuguese colonial architecture and also of Brazilan Baroque. The speed and wealth with which Brazilian cities rose in the 17th and 18th centuries goes unparalleled in North America. The Portuguese turned the sugarcane cities of the North, Salvador and Recife, and the gold-trafficking cities of the South, Ouro Preto and Rio de Jeneiro, from backwaters and fortresses into worldly cities. The nobles, the wealthy bourgeoisie, and the church orders all vied to bring the "best" of their baroque civilization to the New World; and succeed mightily they did. The rhetorical message of wealth conveyed by the Church's "gilded grottoes" is irrefutable. To such a degree that Salvador today is rightly called "Roma Negra": Black Rome.

The grave and crisp book format is buoyed by the reverent photography of Günter Heil. Rarely is architecture afforded such loving attention. One only wishes there was more, seeing that some of the photographs were aparently chosen for their artistic merits above the illustrative, as seen in the one photo of the most remarkable façade in Salvador, the Church of the Third Order of São Francisco: one of the few traces of late Mannerism in the New World, the photo of which is blocked by the raked silhouette of a portal. The fact that the book leaves, literally, so much to be desired is not at all a shortcoming, rather proof of its seduction. This is true of the text as well. One longs for more anecdotes from the history of the great architects or the slaves and natives who built these wonders. European and North American readers who have taken it for granted that the story and soul of the Baroque resides in Europe only, will be vainly curious for more information on such Brazilian cultural heros as the mulato sculptor and architect Aleijadinho, nicknamed "the Cripple", or the painter of the ceiling of the Cathedral Church in Salvador, the Franco-Chinese artist Wei-Kia-Lou (Charles Belville).

The text contained in the book and chapter introductions is informative for the neophyte, though less-so for scholars. The text accompanying the illustrated litany of churches is, in contrast, largely a codification of elements, names and dates. It's the sort of picture book that makes one feel terribly smart. For anyone interested in the subject of Colonial History or of Architecture in General, this luscious book goes highly recommended.

Beau Ideal - 3rd place out of three
Beau Ideal - This book is definitely very good and much better than most junk that comes out today, but compared to the previous two in the trilogy, it just is not quite as good. It does, however, contain some truly classic parts, such as finding out about Hank and Bud's background, and the different view of the attack (Otis P. Vanbrugh). I have copies of Beau Geste and Beau Sabreur, but the only copy I've ever seen of this was at the library, practically fallen apart. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrghhhhh! Well, read it if you can.

Beau!
I wish someone would reprint the sequels to Beau Geste. I had a paperback copy of Beau Sabreau, that just fell apart, finally. Beau Geste is obtainable, but I can't find Beau Ideal even in the library. These are classics. I enjoyed them in high school (50 years ago) and would like to re-read them. Not saying they're Great Literature, but they are exciting reads.

A Ripping Yarn
One of the finest books that you are ever likely to read. Not great literature, perhaps, but this, the third book in the 'Beau Geste' stories of Michael, Digby and John Geste and their adventures in the French Foreign Legion in the Edwardian era, will excite every possible emotion. It is a travesty that this classic story, encapsulating the genres of mystery, war, romance, humour and high adventure is almost impossible to get hold of. I read it fourteen years ago over a period of three days in the University of Queensland's library for rare books. As it was the only copy, quite possibly, in the state, I wasn't allowed to take it out on loan and so I read it over a period of several days in the library itself.

It was so addictive that I missed several lectures and tutorials and the strength of the emotions that the book aroused in me caused me to yell out, several times. I'm sure that the library staff thought that I was quite mad. If you enjoyed 'Beau Geste', this is a must! (If you can get hold of it).

One of the essentials for all hockey players and coaches
This book covers all of the basics very well. Essential reading material for any level of hockey player and coach. I have read it over and over again.

The best book on hockey ever!
When I wanted to improve my game I asked people around for the best book to get. They recommended this one and after seeing myself improve I recomend it to.

the single best source for the coach, player or fan of the game
from basic conditioning to advanced play development, this book will help the coach bring his players up a level. the player reading it will see improvement in their game. the drills are explained in a clear manor and will definately improve the ability of the player. the section on play making is outstanding. when teaching some of the plays to my bantam and midget players, it was like a light bulb went on in their heads when they caught on to the play. this is a must have book for any one involved in the game of hockey.
