The best picture you can get of NTC without enlisting.
The Defense of Hill 781 is the clearest and most accurate depiction of what the National Training Center at Fort Irwin is all about. I've deployed there three times and still learned from this book.

I love these books
I love these books. It is a very easy to read book that I would recommend for people in the military and people not in the Military. "The Defense of Duffer's Drift" and "The Defense of Hill 781" belong on the same shelf together. They are both long enough to cover the topic, but short enough to actually read. BTW, If you are from a foreign country that is not friendly with the USA, you will not like this book. It will be of little use to you. 8-)

Excellent
Excellent book, I have read it 4 or 5 times. As close to modern combat between equal armies as you can get and let us pray we never see the real thing.

Highly recommended
In over 20 years as a Christian, this is the best devotional I have ever read. It is thought provoking yet keeps the subject simple. Each day gives you something to ponder and the chronological order also puts a different approach on the gospels and Jesus' life. I would recommend it to anyone. In fact, I am buying several more as gifts for friends and family.

Great book to improve your walk with Christ
This is a great book for family devotionals. As a Christian it is all too easy to forget that others of whome have not yet given their lives to Christ don't really understand the 'Good News'. ONE YEAR with Jesus, is a compilation of the teachings and actions of Jesus. It is a concentrated form of the Gospel. It can effectively demonstrate to those that might be on the fence, the perfect love of Jesus, which is is the only thing that I think wins converts.

Contemporary American poetry at its best
This book has the most memorable lines per page of any English poetry I have read. Galvin has done a superb job of taking the concrete details of life on a Western ranch and made of them a universal exploration of history, human surviving, practical theology. Poem after poem allows reading and rereading without exhausting the poem's potential.

Opening at random - "The sound of me getting norwhere. / Though I'm telling you there are mountains so distant / It hurts to look" - what a wonderful image "so distant it hurts" - over and over these concrete, straight-talking Western poems catch you up in a new way of looking at the world - new questions, new potential answers.

Go West
These poems describe an internal landscape as lonesome and unknowable, and yet as inescapably beautiful, as the Wyoming in which they are (mostly) set. Camp a few days alone in the wilderness of the Rockies -- where the rest of the world can seem simply not matter, but where a brutal nature will not let the world be ignored --and you'll know what I mean. Read "Three Sonnets" or "Everyone Knows Whom the Saved Envy" and you are in that wilderness.

Fun for the whole family, and interesting!
I bring home a lot of Christian books that I think my kids will read, but they rarely do. This one is different...my 8 and 10 yr olds are truly interested. They like to ask me the questions and see what kind of answer I come up with. With the scripture included, it's a devotional study in disquise!

Easy reading for kids, great discussion starter for parents.
This book has sparked many conversations on why things we do are right or wrong. There are absolutes in this world and there are consequences for wrong behaviors. Great format that is easy to read and thumb through, the bible verses are great for kids and adults!

A very good reference book for kids
My 9 year old daughter bought this book and we have found it answered many questions she had about the Bible that I couldn't answer. The langauge is very age appropriate. The setup of the book is great and the phonetic pronunciation was helpful.

a perfect gift for new prayers
I love this book. My husband and I are teaching our children about the lord and how to say prayers. Which becomes a little hard when we know nothing our selfs. We are just learning and this helps us teach them. They are only 1 and 2. But they love these stories.

A Good Way to Focus on the Gospels for a Year
I wanted to spend a year with just the Gospels, rather than the larger New Testament or the even larger Bible, so I picked up a copy of this book. I have been very pleased. The selection for each day is taken from a harmony of the Gospels (and the entire harmony list is given for reference in the back of the book), so as the year progresses, you move quite thoroughly through the life and ministry of Jesus. Daily readings are accompanied by an explanatory text and an inspirational text. Just a few minutes reading each day gets through it, so it's not really much of a time investment. The translation is easy to read, but corresponds very well to more traditional translations. The print is a decent size (I read mine in a rather dimly-lit church) and the binding is holding the pages in. A word to Catholics considering this book: this book is published by Tyndale, a Protestant publisher, but I haven't found anything in the commentaries that is either anti-Catholic or significantly against Church doctrine. In fact, the only item I have come across so far is a little reference to Jesus' brothers and sisters, which is definitely a Protestant concept, but a rather minor one. I am enjoying this book a lot and am glad I bought it.

Thank you Prayers: My Saviour
This book is great for young children now learning about praising Jesus and remembering to say Thank You for all the wonderful things given to them by God. It is a constant reminder that God is always here and he protects and guides each of us, Jesus said " And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age." The illustrations are just wonderful they depict harmony among children regardless of colour or race it also gives a little charater they can relate with.
