Black River Review; "Gallaher is a master storyteller. She has a talent for fusing history with glimpses of her life, her womanhood, her essence." Ed Two-Rivers, poet and recipient of Iron Eyes Cody Peace Award; "The poems are extremely engaging, especially for the feel of candid, intimate conversation she manages to hold onto line after line...In 'Popping Tar Bubbles,' the last stanza of the poem is perfectly crafted right down to the threatening Buicks." Ratty Work: Rumors down here continue/to squeak and chitter/that we really may/outnumber humans.//We first were sailors/on those Viking ships and/Persian sloops, and ever since,/we've played pirate games,/sniffing out/opportunities for smuggled lunches/and stowaway quarters,/taking a deeper respect/than Newton/for the law of gravity.//Whatever is dropped by human hands/seems to sink/to our own level,/and in your basements,/underground parking lots,/beneath your bridges,/inside your running bulldozers,/we stand patched and ready/with enough booty,/pizza an popcorn/to feed our gray nation.
