Great History of Both the Battle and (Really) Old Brooklyn
John Gallagher's narrative in this short book is very comprehensive while still being easy to read. It is interspersed with great little historical tidbits and teasers as well, and provides some great detail to the old 18th century villages that make up the City of Brooklyn today.

The reader gets the impression that Gallagher fully enjoyed writing on The Battle of Brooklyn and conveys this sense of historical importance very well.

In addition to the great narrative, there are many facts revealed about both the Revolutionary War and different parts of Brooklyn that both professional historians and casual history readers may not have known.

A highly recommended, quick and insightful read.

Winning does not come easy
In most history books, it is usually called The Battle of Long Island. But since it took place in Brooklyn, it is more recently referred to as The Battle of Brooklyn...It took place in August of 1776. General Howe, the winner, versus General Washington, the loser (he won later)...The book relates that American counter attacks in the vicinity of Old Stone House created time for Washington to save the remainder of his army...Did the particular men involved here come from Brooklyn? No, they came from Maryland, "The Maryland 400." (the men from Brooklyn were fighting upstate). But the Marylanders are well remembered. Old Stone House was rebuilt and stands near 5th Avenue and 3rd St. An American Legion Post at 3rd Avenue and 9th St. honors the area where most of them are believed to have been buried. They are also honored by a monument in Prospect Park...I met the author at the American Legion Post, and although I generally review books related to entertainment, there are higher callings than entertainment.

The Battle that saved the rebellion
If you live in Brooklyn and are interested in the Revolutionary War, this book is a must.

Who knew that such an important encounter took place in Brooklyn. The largest expeditionary force the world had ever witnessed in 1776, the largest battle of the war in terms of participants and casualties, an incredible encounter in Park Slope between a group of Maryland Militiamen and the British Army (they charged the British numerous times, in the face of overwhelming odds, in order to permit what was left of the American troops to retreat to Brooklyn Heights) and an evacuation/ retreat, "Dunkirk" style across the East River from Brooklyn to Manhattan by General Washington which saved the army and was widely admired by the British as an incredible feat done right under the British noses.

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay GM's Screen & Reference Pack

Usefull and Pretty
This is actually three products: the screen itself, a critical hits pamphlet and the index for the WFRP rulebook.

As GM screens go, this one is tip top. I'm a fan of "Walls of Fear and Ignorance", some GM's use them, some don't. I like them. The better screens will give you a nice concise listing of important rules at a glance. That is exactly what this one does. It is four paneled. The "GM's side" lists rules for Standard Tests, Healing, Vision Ranges In Darkness, Availability of Items, Subsistence, two panels of combat rules and the fourth panel covers Movement. All usefull. The opposite side is full color. It includes two full color art prints and a two panel map of the Old World. The map being aimed towards the players is most usefull for them, as they have a handy reference as to where they are and/or where they are headed during travel. Besides the screen, this product includes two booklets.

'GM's Screen and Reference Pack' is 16 pages consisting of an 11 page index to the rulebook that (in my not so humble opinion) should have been IN the rulebook. The remaining pages consist of an Almanac based upon the one found in "Shadows over Bogenhafen", but expanded and if printed out, usefull. It lists the days of the week (there are 8), Holy-Days and Months and an explanation of the Imperial Year. There are two pages which can be copied and used to keep track of time in the campaign. The last page is a one page Equipment reference.

The second booklet, 'Critical Hits' is 16 pages as well. It is an expansion of the Critical Hits from the rulebook. It lists Crits for sharp hand weapons, Blunt Hand Weapons, Teeth and Claws, Arrows and Bolts, Firearms, Falling and Crushing, and Fire and Energy. There are two pages of Critical Fumbles and a one page reference for Critical Hits rules. Critical Hits and Fumbles are an important part of the WFRP combat system and add a great amount of enjoyment to the game.

This is a great product and is one of the three "must buys" for WFRP. Buy this with the rule book, and Shadows over Bogenhafen for a fantastic campaign.

The GM screen is seriously indispensible for GMs for WFRP
The WFRP GM screen is indispensible for GM's in WFRP. It helps very much to be able not to review the rulebook at many instances, and to use the rulebook not for quick reference, but to look up specific instances of rules. In addition, the added crit tables are very useful, especially in unlikely combat situations that are brought up using the standard combat crit tables.

Some general information but lacking in specifics.
This text provides some good, basic information on gifted education and talks briefly about the needs in each curriculum area. It does not, however, provide very many specific ideas about content modification or differentiation. Other than a few passing references to technology, it is not substantially different than the 3rd edition.
