A sense of time and place
The great state of Tennessee has produced some of the truly dynamic leaders of this century. One of the best of them is Senator Bill Frist, distinguished physician and surgeon and now a lodestar leader in the United States Senate. Reading this book is both informative and inspiring. You will gain a unique perspective on the twentieth century through the insightful biographical chapters on the Tennessee Senators who impacted the history of our nation and the world from 1911 to 2001. The theme of servant leadership, so evident in the author's own life, is illustrated in the lives of those benchmark Senators from Tennessee. This book is a very important study of leadership that forces us to redefine the title "politician". This book is a good, stimulating read!

Dr. John Lloyd Ogilvie, U.S. Senate Chaplain

An inspirational account of Tennessee history
While filling his role as an active United States Senator, Bill Frist has undertaken a task requiring a sense of history, perspective, and courage. His commitment to Tennessee history from the perspective of both information and inspiration is evident in his wide-ranging research into the careers of the seventeen Senators who are his subjects, and courage was surely necessary in his evaluation s of their constructive or detrimental contributions to their state and country. His introductory essay, "A Sense of Place and Time," provides an exemplary summary of the events and issues challenging the varied, fascinating, and intensely partisan group of twentieth century leaders who come to life in these pages. Their stories will remain a unique part of the Senator's legacy to history.

-Wilma Dykeman, Tennessee State Historian

An intriguing study of Tennessee's greatest personalities.
With deftness, Senator Frist and Mr. Annis have mined a vein of Tennessee history rich in character and content. The reader will take delight in sifting through the settings, circumstances and fascinating personalities who have contributed so distinctly to a governing process which has led the United States to a pre-eminent position among all nations. Every student of Tennessee history will find in the content of this unique work a great storehouse of information, reminiscences, and intriguing insights concerning the unique individuals who have served their state and nation in the United States Senate. The book represents a valuable gift to every Tennessean.

BIIOTERRORISM: A REAL-LIFE THREAT THAT LIVES AMONG US
The book provides helpful information in making readers aware of the dangers of bioterrorism and what one can do to minimize risks; however, after reading the book, one may still not feel a whole lot safer! Actually, I was rather disappointed the book was so short (less than 200 pages) considering the critical subject matter. When one ponders the devastating results bioterrorism could have on your country but mine, it would certainly be advantageous to have more in-depthe information than was provided here. On the positive side, the book was easily understood, written in question and answer format and what information it did contain was obviously well researched.

A down-to-earth analysis
In 2001, the United States came under its first-ever serious biological attack, when envelopes containing anthrax began to be received by government officials and media people. In the United States Senate, Bill Frist, the only M.D. serving in the Senate and a long-time proponent of readiness against bioterrorism, leaped into action, making himself and his website a clearinghouse of information about the situation. In 2002, Senator Frist compiled his information on bioterrorism in this succinct and easy to understand book.

The first chapter of the book is Senator Frist's timeline of the 2001 anthrax attack. The second chapter focuses on what the average American should have to prepare for a bioterrorist event, which contains information on what you should do, and what you should have (largely a standard disaster kit). After that, the book has six chapters on viruses and bacteria likely to be used by bioterrorists (anthrax, smallpox, plague, tularemia, and Ebola and other viral hemorrhagic fevers), including what they are, how they are recognized and a threat analysis of the organism. Finally, Senator Frist looks at chemical weapons, and what the nation needs to do to be more prepared for future bioterrorism.

I have read several books on bioterrorism of late, and this one is the most down to earth, and practical book of them all. It is not meant to alarm the reader or provoke action, but merely gives out the pertinent information, so that the reader can understand the issues involved. If you want a simple analysis of bioterrorism, then I highly recommend this book to you.

A Timely Book Indeed
No one can translate complex scientific concepts into language any layman can understand as readily as Bill Frist. When Every Moment Counts is a timely and important guide for the common American. We are indeed fortunate that Dr. Frist serves us in the Senate at this critical point in our history.

Words of wisdon from a butcher
In this book, Frist admits to adopting homeless animals from Boston shelters and promising to keep them as pets, only to bring them home to vivisect and eventually kill. The fact that he was a medical student is no excuse - he knew it was wrong, not to mention illegal, otherwise he would have no need for secrecy. Didn't he get enough dissection and vivisection in his medical school classes? Apparently not. I don't buy his explanation that the clandestine torture and killing of these animals was done to further his studies - if that were the case, he would have done the experiements IN SCHOOL under the SUPERVISION of a professor. Yes, it's impressive that he was a medical student - he is obviously intelligent. However, the frenzied, repeated torture and killing points of these adopted animals points to an deviant character, pure and simple.

Insightful
This book was the turning point of my life. It was the statement that persuaded me to have a heart transplant. It answered so many of my qestions about the procedure and gave me the insight that the procedure was not really science fiction. Since reading it I have passed the book on to other people facing such a difficult decision.

amazing
this book is definately one i'll keep. it talks of accounts with certain patients and gives an in depth look at the art of transplantation. i recommend this book to anyone. its a great read.
