A Place to Call Home
This is such an awesome book! I recommend it to young adults everywhere!

A place to call home
I thought this book was a exciting book. It was very interesting. I liked this book because it was real detailed and it never had a point in the book where it went on forever. The suspence of the book built up like steps and the higher you go the more exciting it was. The book was about a girl named Anna who grew up with a mother who beat her every time she lost her temper. Anna is in high school and has learned how to take care of her younger brother and sister. Anna's mom keeps running away, leaving Anna with her little sister and brother by themselves until their mom comes home. But Anna is stuck in a sticky situation when her mother never comes home again.

This book has it's ups and downs. The beginning is exciting, but the end is sad. It's only about one third of the book is sad so don't let that bother you. I would highly recommend this book as one of my favorite books.

A Place to Call Home
The O'Dell children are left alone when things get too much to handle for their mother. So their mother just takes off. Fifteen-year-old Anna has now learned to take care of her five-year-old sister Mandy, and her seven-month-old brother Casey. Anna tries to hide, and not let anyone know that mother is gone. Anna's goal is to keep the three of them together, but she has to make tough decisions. This is Anna's story. I enjoyed this book because, I would never want to stop. It just kept getting good.

Jackie Kroller writes a masterpeice
The story is about an Irish faimily growing up in the depression. It is so gripping that I promise that you would not put it down if you read it. The story has a sadness that you feel, and a houmor that makes you laugh out loud to yourself. Kroller makes you want to live with the charachters, you almost want to talk to them. It is a bittersweet story that you will never forget.

Funny, sweet and sad.
I loved this book. It made me think about my mother who grew up Irish in New York City in the 20's and 30's. I gave it to her to read and she also found it very touching and close to home. Thankyou Jackie French Koller for writing this book.

A moving and clear-eyed view of hardship in the Depression
Set in New York City, the story tells about Danny Garvey and his family's struggles to get enough to eat and keep a roof over their heads. For me this was a one session I couldn't put it down read. The author has a terrific ear for dialogue, and I found myself really caring about these characters. The book is sad and funny in parts and is unblinking in its depiction of how the Depression affected the lives of people. The author gives details about things like Hoovervilles (shantytowns) and the hope with which people greeted the election of Roosevelt as well as weaving a good story. A book that would lend itself to great class discussions.Wonderful descriptions of daily life in 1932- I felt as though I were there.

Too Much Monket Business
My 3 and 4 year-olds love this book. The rhymes are very good (not your standard rhymes), the pictures are hysterical and the author manages to sneak in a counting exercise. Some books you get tired of reading but not this one. Finally, the lessons about safety (a not so subtle subtext) are not preachy but funny and to the point. You can't go wrong with this one.

Another great book for your youngster!
One Monkey Too Many is one of our favorites. It's rhyming verses are flowing and fun to read for both parent and child. The silly pictures will make you laugh! Your child will request this one again and again.

One of the best illustrated children's books ever! Fun!
The writing is great but the illustrations make the book. The monkeys are adorable and you can make a game out of discussing them with the kids. Lynn Munsinger has done it again!

Fish Fry Tonight
This wonderfully illustrated book is delightful. Mouse's exuberance is catching; soon the friends she invited have invited others. It's a lovely tale of generosity, sharing and what can happen when a party gets out of hand! We've winnowed our children's books as they grow but have kept this one. Sorry to see it's out of print.

what a delight
This book is out of print and frankly that surprised me. I was able to get a used copy and would encourage other to do the same. It is a delightful book for small children and is beautifully illustrated. It is a funny, wry tale of a dinner party gone astray (but saved) as one dinner invitation spawns dozens more. The gentle humor combined with the lovingly drawn watercolors, of forest creatures great and small, make this a must own.. As one of the many characters states, "What A Delight, Fish Fry Tonight."

I Love This Book!
This is a wonderful book for young adults. I loved it, and would recommend anyone else to read it, too! It is a heart warming and heart renching story of a young Puritan gilr in the Massachussetts Bay Colony in 1630 who falles in love with an indian and must make to choice to be with the one she loves or the people and way of life she knews.

Feeling a strong friendship to Rebekka!
My father baught me this book about a year ago, but I didn¢¥t start to read it at that time, because I didn¢¥t know what to think about it. Now I read it. Of course I read it translated into German, so it won¢¥t be the same like the original, but I think everyone who ever read this book, will begin to love Mishannok, thank Seth for his warm heart, feel like Rebekka¢¥s best friend. I felt so angry, when I read about Mr, Walker and how the white treated the native Americans, that I had a discussions with my parents about the white settlers for an hour or even longer. I¢¥m thanking Mrs/Ms Koller waking up an in history interested part of my heart.

The Teachable Moment
When I discovered this work it was a dream come true..For many years I have taught American History to 8th graders. The classes that I have require truly engaging texts and this is one. I have used the book for the past three years to teach valuable lessons about the Puritans and the Native Americans. The author is very accurate in her description of the events and the picture of the climate between the two groups has am impact on the students. What a perfect way to teach historical fiction. I have my students research what is history and what is fiction. They must prove the histroical parts in a defense paper. If you are a teacher lookng for total engagement and a valuable way to relate to this age, buy and use this book. If you are a young adult reader that wants to curl up with a great book this summer you have found a winner. Discover the beauty of a young girl's interaction with her Native American friends. Seek another point of view about the history of this period. Surpise you teacher next year with your knowledge while you read a wonderfully constructed story. Enjoy!

If I had one wish...
Id have to say the movie was better, but the book was good too.

Be careful what you wish for.
"If I Had One wish" is a great book. It's about a boy named Alec. Alec was at a mall when he literally ran into a bag lady. She gave him a coin and said it would grant him one wish. Alec wishes his little brother Stevie away because Stevie is driving him nuts. When Alec relizes the wish came true, and his familiy didn't remember Stevie, Alec became sad. Alec's familiy was richer but they didn't have time to do fun stuff with him. The story teaches you to be careful what you wish and to love your familiy dearly.

Alec makes a wish for his brother to never be born.
I think this book is excellent because I have a brother and it showed me how diffrentlife would be with out him.People that would enjoy this book the most is the ones with little brothers or sisters.
